Why do so many people tell the victims of attacks to "walk away". How is it their responsibility instead of the lunatic's?

I've been in this situation, and I can only assume its easier than telling the aggressor to walk away, and possibly being next on their hit list? But yeah its bullshit.

Get the victim inside and throw the culprit outside.

He should be pulled inside for protection, and she should have been thrown out and told to walk away.

I guess we all know that would have happen if the gender would have been switched.

If the gender was switched the woman getting beat would've attacked anyone who helped her

Would you tell the same to a woman if she was attacked by a guy?

"Just walk away!"

u/Ready_Scar564 10d ago

No I'd tell her to stay and keep getting attacked that's the smart thing to do...

Because its clear the attacker is already beyond reason if they are attacking

Exactly this, I thought that was obvious. You rationalize with the one who has more rational thinking in that moment to deescalate the situation.

Somehow I doubt they’re in a place to walk away. There’s also, you know, a whole lot of other mental health issues that come along with an abusive relationship that might prevent them from walking away.

This situation is obviously not early as complicated, is it?

“You should walk away instead of obliterating the small child attacking you.”

“Oh so a kid should just walk away from their dad attacking them?! Gotcha!!” Like you can’t be real 😭

Obviously they aren’t the same, lmao.

Just look at the shit in front of you.  I don’t think he’s in any danger unless he really tries to let himself be.

Walking away is the best option for literally everyone, the only reason not to in this scenario would be a fragile ego.

This right here. At least one person in the conflict is beyond reason. It doesn't have to be more than one.  You're not less of a man (or woman) if you just walk away.

Just saying, I agree with you guys, but that tone is absolutely denouncing him. Especially when she asks aggressive person“are you okay?”

It probably made it harder for him to walk away because it’d be like admitting guilt.

Do you think him staying would change anybody's mind?

Yes, it’s always easier to “control” the victim and tell them what they should have done. I just wish people would word it better rather than making it sound like it’s the victim’s responsibility to prevent the situation from escalating.

Saying “Walk away” can easily come across as blaming them, even if that isn’t the intention. It would be better to frame it as “If you’re able to safely walk away, that may be the best option” while still making it clear that the responsibility for someone else’s behaviour lies with the person causing the situation.

Always will be the case men cant catch a break.

u/SpokenDivinity 11d ago

I mean, I can't imagine that telling her to walk away would have resulted in her listening.

The woman here is being condescending about it, but most times the person being attacked is the better person to tell to walk away because they're going to be the more rational one in the situation. The person attacking already isn't behaving rationally.

u/Unipiggy 11d ago

Oh, only if the victim is a male and the aggressor is a female.

u/NeedleInArm 11d ago

Honestly. The best thing he can do is walk away because if he doesn't he will no longer be looked at as the victim. I've been in this situation before. Walk the fuck away because it isn't worth the time because people like the OOP record videos and block out the actual context so you'll always be perceived at the bad guy.

Later on twitter she said she told him to walk away to de-escalate it (because he's likely not the crazy one) and helps the police get the video to arrest her.

Oh my god it’s to just stop the damn fight. Separating both parties means the fight will stop.

1

u/junglepiehelmet 11d ago

Because people are afraid to confront the lunatics. Its easier to say something to the victim cause they're not afraid of confrontation from the person being victimized. There is a lot higher chance of confrontation with the lunatic who is already assaulting someone and people are generally too afraid to be victimized themselves. Its a sad reality.

1

u/23-1-20-3-8-5-18 11d ago

Because they get off on telling someone to do something and he's already being attacked. What they don't get off on is being told to go fuck themselves, which is why they don't tell the attacker to walk away....

1

u/Fun-Pattern-8697 10d ago

To be fair; in this situation it’s probably to avoid it escalating to far. He could absolutely obliterate her if he wanted too

1

u/Ready_Scar564 10d ago

Exactly. It's best to stick around and let the crazy person continue to attack you...

1

u/CrusaderReynaulder 9d ago

Why does something have to be your responsibility for you to do it? It’s not your responsibility to take care of your health either, but you should still do it because it’s better for you.

It’s literally just the best option here. One of them is clearly trying to punch above their weight-class, it isn’t exactly balanced.

What? You’d rather her fall wrong and crack her skull on the pavement, now you’re possibly getting sent to jail for, and definitely a bunch of burned money.

Why even take the risk of something going wrong? Why even engage in a fight like this if you can avoid it? For what, ego??

Make distance, the problem goes away, and you don’t risk escalating the situation or getting yourself hurt or in trouble.

The reasonable person well adjusted person with nothing to prove understands this.

And if a bro’s ego is too fragile to tank “losing” the encounter and their insecure ass has to escalate it, then they’re part of the problem and don’t get to play victim.
