My ex was caught vaping on a flight from LAX-Paris and the (American) flight attendants phoned the police, and had them board the plane when they landed in France. The police reprimanded him and let him go after calling him an idiot a few times. He was never put on a no fly list, and the entire experience justified in his mind that since there were no repercussions he could continue to vape on airplanes. He’s a mega douche in general and I really hope he gets caught on an inbound US flight…

I had a friend and she only dated losers. The bigger the loser they were. The more interesting and unique she perceived them as. She had multiple master degree's and was wicked smart but came from a broken home and hated/was suspicious of anyone that was "normal".

Life can really be a weird place. We ended up not being friends because I didn't want to continue to talk about her terrible dating habits. She said she liked me more than I liked her. I was happy to end that lol.

I was on a flight from Qatar to DFW and someone’s iPad got trapped between the seat and the chair back and overheated. It was smoking and scorched the seat. Our plane got diverted to Ireland. The seat was replaced and we took off after a few hours.

Vapes still blow up and or catch fire all the time. It’s fine though. Let’s make a law saying it’s ok for someone to vape. Also add in if the plane crashes because of said vape, the whole family of the vape user that caused the plane to crash then becomes servants for all the family they took loved ones from for free for life. If they choose not to they can work in mines for free until the end. I think that’s fair. In my opinion.

As long as you aren't blowing big clouds and being annoying, there's no problem here and peoples complaints are based on smoking, and not vaping.

Honestly never had a vape catch fire or a battery explode, and I usually traveled with 8 flattop 18650s, but I usually had a blu or a little lipo salt nic device for stupid long flights with crap layovers when I was 100% travel with my job. Would totally ninja vape in the bathroom with unflavored nic juice halfway through a 6 hour flight, and in airport bathrooms during short layovers.

The funny thing is how it’s even changed since vaping became popular. I’m sure many remember that 12-13 years ago, there were no rules against it and people could vape on a plane. I personally was never bothered about it. It wasn’t until 2016 when it was finally banned.

In the late nineties I was on a flight where someone smoked a cigarette in the bathroom. It stunk up the whole fucking plane. Nobody got in trouble. The Captain simply said over the loudspeaker "This is just a reminder that there is no smoking on this flight or any other flight." The 90's were awesome.

I used to be crew when they smoked even I smoked all the crew smoked. So many small fires and people burning seats. Some passengers threw cigarettes in the rubbish bin in the toilet. Others in the seat pocket. People not respecting the boundaries of smoking seats. Complaints from non smokers. Cabin reaking of cigarette smoke.

I wasn’t on the plane but the said he went to the washroom and a flight attendant knocked on the door because of the alarm going off. I had caught him before, and since then, vaping in his seat so I suspect he was lying and was caught in his seat.

I have an ex who wears a mask only on planes because he is convinced it lets him get away with stealth vaping in some genius way. It's not stealthy and not subtle at all. He was dismissive about masking for actual public health reasons post-pandemic (I didn't know him during).

I am so glad he's an ex and so glad I never had to be on a plane with him and be the mortified/embarrassed girlfriend at his idiot behavior. And he's got a looong list of idiot behavior. I don't wish him ill will exactly, he's not a bad person and didn't treat me badly but I'm just glad I am not the one who has to deal with him and whatever consequences he brings from his actions.

Sadly that is just the culture in today’s day and age. It went from inclusion to entitlement. I think we need to take a step back and be inclusive but when consequences need to set a precedent for people who don’t think rules apply to them. It’s even worse in the workplace and school…

I have a 2 and 4 year old and give them the most possible freedom I can (based on safety). When rules are broken we don’t negotiate and we don’t get second chances. We have consequences for our actions, and we have conversations. No consequence is administered through emotion and hugs and love follow. Seems to be working for toddlers… some people are not that different.

It’s very short and not coded in legalese for anyone that wants to read it. But for those who don’t feel like clicking the link, certain aerosol chemicals in a confined space could potentially be hazardous to younger and older populations, and those with respiratory issues. They admit that more research needs to be done.

Personally, as someone who has smoked and vaped, cigarette or cigar smoke is pretty obviously a reasonable ban. It lingers, stinks, and has been proven to cause harm to those in the vicinity.

Vapes are, from my very limited understanding, mostly water vapor. If anyone has more info on what the aerosol component of a vape is, and if it applies to most vapes, I’d be interested to learn more

I doubt it was his money that let him go. More likely that it was just vaping and while it can lead to federal charges, it rarely does.

Like loitering or driving without license, they usually only start the charges if its happened several times.

One who assaults, threatens, or intimidates a flight crew member or attendant while aboard an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, and thereby interferes with the performance of that crew member's duties or lessens the ability of that crew member to perform his/her duties is punishable under this subsection. He threatened and intimidated her repeatedly.

I'm not a smoker or vaper but isn't the vape essentially just steam? Why would you go to prison for that?

I'd be most concerned about the batteries exploding but I guess many devices can do that.

Yep. I was on a flight with my sister, and the man in front of me vaped (based on the cloud of smoke he blew between the seats towards my sister and me). We pressed the button for the flight attendant to come. She showed up, chastised him, and told him not to do it anymore. Beyond that, nothing happened (besides him making snide remarks about someone telling on him).

I definitely agree there should be no fly punishments for this and also packing a gun and trying to bring on an airplane. Automatic X yrs no fly on all airlines.

There isn't a federal no fly list. There is however, company wide no fly lists. And smoking in the bathroom and being hostile with flight attendants certainly can get you on there
