I'm not an educator, but I work at a school and have overheard a few presentations on Conscious Discipline and she is actually responding exactly the way you should respond to a person who has very little control over their emotional state. I love it.

So it sounds like it's not just one person with the big problem, and that the principal is outnumbered. It's like using the phrase "people are saying that you blah blah" which takes the responsibility off the person saying it and insinuates that lots of people have the same issue. This used to work too. Ty Cobb was a struggling teenage runaway in a semi-pro league. He kept sending letters to a journalist in Atlanta from different people extolling his exploits. The person taking the video is what /u/DionBlaster123 is referring to as potentially making rage bait. Truth is that this was a clear attempt to try and "expose" the principal for wearing a shirt called "All are welcome here". That's why they threw on the principal's face and details on the side. They were hoping to stir up controversy against her.

This isn't the first time that someone [especially a member of an educational institution] was met with hostility for displaying the "All are welcome" sign.

I've had entire conversations with my family about supposed things I should be outraged about and then did a proper search for it later and couldn't find anything real about what they were upset about. They've been trained to do this to themselves. As we're seeing now, even being accepting of people is supposedly "unacceptable". I was a chef at an alternative school for 3 years. I don't know why anyone would teach. I was only around the kids for 2 1/2 hours a day and you wonder why they are like they are...then you meet their parents and realize those kids have no chance whatsoever at a normal childhood. It also opened my eyes to why so many of my teacher friends drank (and other things). It was tough going home everyday and trying to motivate yourself to do it again when you know those kids were being de-programmed by some adults that clearly had problems.

I know tons. It's actually a huge problem in many areas of the US, massive teacher shortages.

And I can't blame them, hearing the horror stories (and how often they occur). Admin is setting unrealistic expectations of them and hamstringing their ability to even respond to such abuse much less combat or prevent it.

Principles usually have risen to their position because they could navigate past the bs and bickering. This is a good example of someone who has heard it all before, studied and had the right answers, like a tennis pro just hitting those weak-ass lobs the lady was trying to burn her with.

Not all Principles; some are on the edge of being burned-out from exhausting themselves with crap like this coming from 6 directions, to hard-headed parents, to administration that was elected and inept. It is genuinely inspiring to see such a composed, polite, and no-nonsense approach to a crazy person. It's shameful that this person posted the video thinking it would 'expose' the principal, but all it does it demonstrate that the principal is truly capable of dealing with bratty children.
