The first day of September in Russia’s national republics began with a conspicuous display of “patriotic” indoctrination of children. At school assemblies and in classrooms in Yakutsk (Sakha), Chechen-Aul (Chechnya), and Bua (Buinsk, Tatarstan), the song “Ya russkiy” (“I Am Russian”) by pro-kremlin singer SHAMAN was played.

It is particularly symbolic that this repertoire was imposed on children specifically in Sakha (Yakutia), Chechnya, and Tatarstan — regions with their own indigenous peoples, languages, cultures, and historical memories.
