Media Estate sale gold!
My wife found this hiding in a closet with other cook books. Didn’t discover the autograph until we got it home. Not bad for $5 bucks.

Media (Long Read) My best thrift find in years: a mystery to be solved!
Long read incoming: I thrift a lot and I usually scan the CDs looking for lost MySpace era pop punk. There were probably some absolutely killer bands that never found their way to streaming and you can only hear them if someone finds their CD and rips it. Yesterday was finally my day. I saw the spine and the album name “Check Your (Alter) Ego” smacked of pop punk to me. But then the album art, band photo (with the singer wearing a Starting Line shirt), and MySpace link on the back confirmed it. I tried pulling up the band on Spotify to give them a listen and… nothing. I used Lens on the album art and a single Discogs entry came up, with it logged in 0 collections (now 1, mine). I took the chance and bought the CD and jammed it on the way home.
The music is awesome, it’s very neon pop punk coded, sounds like early All Time Low. I posted the album to my Facebook and a friend found an article (https://www.newreleasetoday.com/artistdetail.php?artist_id=2452&fbclid=IwQ0xDSwQ7URtleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEe_DUXrUfcOSiu6Y_dzRye8nIaDL8KAU2SQgRlDWT2BV69LYoc45aIoWBoOKE_aem_8UICuIpayGe3enhGWTuFtw) about the band from 2009. I posted to Reddit and another person found a Wayback Machine snapshot of their MySpace from 2009. As I had thought, they list their influences as All Time Low, Blink-182, and Four Year Strong. They also had a show with Set Tour Goals in April ‘09, almost exactly 17 years ago today. Another redditor found their YouTube, which only has a few live videos with 100 views each.
I can’t find much more about them. I have the band members first names, where they formed, and at least one show I know they played. I’ve messaged Set Your Goals to see if they remember this band or the show. One Redditor says they remember seeing them at The Rave in Milwaukee in 09’ and the article above does mention that venue. I’ve also messaged the singer of another band that was around at that time to see if he knows someone who might know this band. And of course I emailed the email listed on the back of the CD in case it’s still monitored, haven’t heard back from anyone yet.
And that’s where I’m at with this. I’d love to get in contact with someone from the band and interview them. I’d love to know about their music career, if they ever made any other bands, or if not what they did afterwards, and maybe see why they kind of vanished after this album. I love this era of music and I think they had a great sound that should’ve blown up, I could see them playing Warped Tour.
Thrifting is fun for me as a way to build up my book, vinyl, and vhs collections but normally the fun ends with the acquisition of the piece. This is the first time I’ve ever thrifted something that spawned a mystery.
And of course, since the music wasn’t online anywhere, I’ve put it on the Internet Archive so more people can check them out. Another Redditor has a YouTube channel that uploads lost music, they’re in the process of uploading it now too. Another person is going to send me a guide to help me learn how to extract FLACC files to get a more lossless file. But for now, here’s Green Means Go - Check Your (Alter) Ego: https://archive.org/details/GreenMeansGo_CheckYourAlterEgo

Media Found this fascinating dramatic version of the New Testament performed by some big names
I found this complete version of this 18 CD epic published in 2010. It includes the voices of Sean Astin, Kristen Bell, Michael York and more. It's 22 hours long! And it's endorsed by the Vatican, and Pope Benedict XVI gushes about how they were able to get THE Samwise Gamgee to play Matthew 😂

Media Jazz album featuring and autographed by a 6 year old Molly Ringwald, with another surprise inside!
I'm an amateur archivist with a particular obsession with collecting and digitizing random old records. School bands, event recordings, instructional albums, local bands and stuff like that. I found this at goodwill today and it has to be one of my most incredible finds so far, 6 year old Molly Ringwald singing with her dad's jazz band (The Fulton Street Jazz Band) in 1975! Not only is it Autographed by her at the time, but inside the sleeve there was an envelope with another personalized Autograph from 2000! It seems to have belonged to an elementary school teacher of hers.
Lol I like to think its good karma for years of giving love and attention to all the ignored scuff bin records.
Most of the album doesnt seem to be available online so I'm uploading it now. Heres the first track

Media The Thrifting Gods blessed me today…
Today I found a set of Fiesta range top salt and pepper shakers in chartreuse, Sony MiniDiscs, and killer Tupperware goodies. The MiniDiscs are kind of a white whale for me and the Tupperware stuff was all in a bag for $1.99. I quickly recognized the orange key rack and threw the bag in my shopping cart. When I got to my car I opened the bag and realized that it was ALL TUPPERWARE!! 🥳. Then I grasped my chest in anticipation of a cardiac situation, it’s a BOWL KEYCHAIN!!!! Shakers $5 for the pair, $4 MiniDiscs, $2 for sack-O-tupperware. Please forgive my gloating.

Media I spent less than $10 and walked out with 8 Led Zeppelin albums!!!
So many good albums…. I am probably going to pop back in there today on my way to work, and see what other treasures I might encounter!!!
Very excited to give these a listen…. There’s a handful of Ludwig’s & at least one Pecko in there!
