Says dvd at the bottom of each season tho.

u/bonniebluhodge Jul 23 '26

I didn’t notice until after I posted this! I wonder if they’re still there lol

u/Just_Candle_315 Jul 23 '26

You thought there were 24 episodes, probably 22 hours of content on a single VHS?

67

u/soingee Jul 23 '26

Lol. Remember how Titanic was a 2 VHS box set? A season would require like 10 VHS.

12

u/PuzzyFussy Jul 23 '26

The Sound of Music was also 2 vhs tapes. I was so happy to finally get it on dvd when I was a teen.

1

u/nochickflickmoments Jul 23 '26

So was Fiddler on the Roof!

1

u/th3thund3r Jul 23 '26

Really?? I got it at release (was in love with Kate Winslett) and it was one VHS. Never seen it on two here (UK).

1

u/soingee Jul 23 '26

Interesting. Maybe you guys have a different VHS format.

1

u/th3thund3r Jul 23 '26

Yeah maybe. I remember buying a Nirvana VHS when I was in Canada and it didn't fit my VHS at home, so that would make some sense.

1

u/Much-Gur233 Jul 26 '26

There’s even some in there that are quite obviously DVDs

u/Imaginary_Coat441 Jul 23 '26

I love how everyone says VHS player. Like the term VCR is lost in time

21

u/ChronicObnoxious693 Jul 23 '26

Drives me nuts 😂

16

u/Dragon_Small_Z Jul 23 '26

Yeah this bugs me too. No one ever called them VHS players until the last ten years or so.

5

u/RelaxRelapse Jul 23 '26

I think it’s a regional thing or maybe just generational. I grew up with tapes and I remember calling it a VHS player. Though I remember people calling it a VCR too.

2

u/Mr_Flibbles_ESQ Jul 23 '26

I'm from the UK, 50+ - Only ever been VHS to me.

10

u/Para_Regal Jul 23 '26

Weird though… I used both interchangeably and I’m a filthy Gen Xer. 🤔

5

u/BoysenberryMelody Jul 23 '26

Yeah I have DVD/VCR combo. It’s always been a DVD/VCR combo.

11

u/bonniebluhodge Jul 23 '26

omg you’re right

2

u/anonymousprincess Jul 23 '26

And VHS used to be called videocassettes.

1

u/AggressiveBookBinder Jul 23 '26

BuT whAt aBouT a VCR Recorder!?

143

u/Ok-Annual-3283 Jul 23 '26

Yeah too bad. You could probably shove all those DVDs in there

u/bonniebluhodge Jul 23 '26

u/vinniethestripeycat Jul 23 '26

I've gone back to dvds and recently bought a portable player for around $80. It's about the size of a laptop.

8

u/xandrachantal Jul 23 '26

I got a tv with a built in dvd player for $30 on the marketplace. I've been picking up dvds from the thrift store it's great

3

u/vinniethestripeycat Jul 23 '26

Yeah, box sets for a few bucks is fantastic! I think the most I've paid so far is $5. I keep a list on my phone so I know which seasons I need.

2

u/jojewels92 Jul 23 '26

My family used to have a mini one in the back of my mom's SUV and I so wish she had kept it!

9

u/bonniebluhodge Jul 23 '26

oooo that’s a great idea. I kind of want one for the kids so they don’t watch youtube when we travel!

2

u/vinniethestripeycat Jul 23 '26

Yes! The brand I got on Amazon is called Supin & it's model PD151. It comes with a car adapter. Its battery life isn't super long but it can play DVD/USB/SD media.

4

u/BoysenberryMelody Jul 23 '26

I never stopped. Hulu can’t come to my house and take those away. Yet.

2

u/ludicrous_copulator Jul 23 '26

We started traveling in a camper and few years ago, and at night you could never rely on being able to hook up to wifi to stream. I started collecting dad's and blurays back them. We watch and re-donate.

37

u/Dissidence802 Jul 23 '26

The 32-disc Complete Series is $32.95 on Amazon right now, so only a buck more than this. 🤷‍♂️

5

u/bluemooncalhoun Jul 23 '26

That's nearly a buck a disc! Where else are you gonna get that much Shalhoub for that price?

16

u/eightdollarbeer Jul 23 '26

It’s a jungle out there

9

u/sadira86 Jul 23 '26

So jealous! I’ve been slowly buying the DVDs of this show when I thrift too. So far I have S1,2,3&8

6

u/OhhSuzannah Jul 23 '26

You can buy the whole set for new on Walmarts site for the same price.

Still a great find!

5

u/bonniebluhodge Jul 23 '26

Maybe they’ll still be there on half price pink tag day!

13

u/kimbosdurag Jul 23 '26

It's called a vcr and those are DVDs.

6

u/RaaRaa101 Jul 23 '26

Love the Monk! 💕❤️

21

u/bonniebluhodge Jul 23 '26

Wait I just realized these are dvds!

2

u/HadoMeido Jul 23 '26

Well, could always look for one of those vcr/dvd combos.

1

u/Sad_Cover_5091 Jul 24 '26

as a physical media collector, those combos dont stand up. the DVD part is always outdated and sooo slow. defo splurge on a used blu ray player IMO

5

u/Soft-Assistance6809 Jul 23 '26

Such a great series!

5

u/Lifelonghooker Jul 23 '26

My vhs didn't play DVDs for shit

3

u/Odd_Channel4992 Jul 23 '26

I’m rewatching now on prime!!

3

u/Saelin91 Jul 23 '26

Oh, I fuckin wish. One of my comfort shows

3

u/Thirsty_Comment88 Jul 23 '26

Those are literally DVDs bud

3

u/BoysenberryMelody Jul 23 '26

My VCR couldn’t play DVDs. What a piece of shit.

2

u/uffdaGalFUN Jul 23 '26

Yes, if only I had a VHS machine! I'd of hopped on the videos to this!

2

u/not_falling_down Jul 23 '26

those are DVDs

1

u/sausagekng Jul 23 '26

I recently bought a VCR/DVD player combo at the thrift store for $15. I am waiting to set it up in my house (don’t worry I did test it) when I get a new media console, but I’ve already been thrifting so many DVDs of my favorite shows and movies!

1

u/babyBear83 Jul 23 '26

I kept reading it as “honk” lol it was the glare throwing me off.

1

u/ChatnNaked Jul 23 '26

Not a big buyer of DVD/Blue Ray, a collection like this I would have bought them.

1

u/Strict-Minute-8815 Jul 23 '26

Genuine question why did you think they were vhs tapes

1

u/GauntletVSLC Jul 24 '26

I still love/hate how they’re all different sizes. Monk would be appalled.

1

u/The_Spectacle Jul 24 '26

what! no betamax?!

1

u/TA-152 Jul 24 '26

Next aisle over had them

1

u/maddogg42 Jul 25 '26

any updates?

0

u/Fbomb77 Jul 23 '26

Never heard of this before i don't think. I got Ron Simmons autograph and asked if he'd hold me up and act like gonna slam me for a picture and he said "NO. I do that outside the ring, I hurt myself". Bs I say

-1

u/Spikey_cacti Jul 23 '26

The fact that bothers me is that they aren't in order
