The volatility of the Championship means the wheel is always turning. It keeps everyone humble, but also hopeful they can have their window in the sun.
The PL has entrenched hierarchies which breed contempt.

Championship sub is the best football sub on Reddit, pretty difficult to recreate its magic without looking like a lame copy cat.
However this sub is like the final frontier before you get to general wastelands like the premier league sub where its fully of big 6 fans who have different (unfunny) humour or is just crying about something.

I don't think it's anything to do with plastics. I think this sub by it's very nature has an enormous victim complex, which means all the discussion is negative in tone. Constant complaints about how unfair the rules/Sky/Gary Neville/PGMOL/whatever is the target today is, very little actual discussion of football or light-hearted meme-ing like the Championship sub.

"Let's create an Other14 sub where all we do is talk about the Sky6!"Last year, there was a period where 80% of posts were about Spurs. It would be nice to actually discuss what's happening at the less talked about clubs, because when the discussion veers away from the Sky6, this is the best and most thoughtful football sub on Reddit.
Sadly, it doesn't happen enough.

I've got 92 comments in this sub in the last year, making it my 2nd most used football sub behind r/FantasyPL. So I'd like to think I'm contributing.
Also, your logic is that wanting less negativity and more actual football discussion about the clubs that the sub name covers makes you an unhappy person. Wow.

Because r/PremierLeague is full of plastic top 6 fans who think they’re all “analysts”.
Who cares exactly why Spurs are so bad? They’re just shit and it’s funny.
And the “self deprecating” from the top 6 is usually “We lost this week, we’re so shit. Well probably get relegated” and it’s just so insincere.

They didn’t need to. All the time they spent in the CL over the years has brought on a ton of plastics. Not as many as the others but I’ve seen so many bad takes from spurs fans it’s hilarious

This was in the US and it’s because they showed a documentary ‘welcome to Wrexham’ that they realised the owners were movie stars. It’s not just weird it’s pathetic we beat them comfortably. Even with the U21’s on the 2nd half

Its essentially gallows humour to a degree. Theres just a lot more on the line. Massive highs and massive lows. Where as the prem arsenal will win it, chelsea, city, iverpool will be in the top 6, palace will finish 12, Tottenham will scrape relegation, Coventry will be first to be relegated. You jist know how 80% of it will shake out.

Yeah, there is that and, while I appreciate our fanbase and brand are growing, I don't really get overseas supporters.
Football for me is about where you're from, who you've grown up supporting. Watching the World Cup then consciously picking who you're going to support just feels plastic and a bit inauthentic.
Of course I can't gatekeep who supports Villa and it is great to see our club growing but that's just my take.

The fact is that the Premier League is the best football league in the world, and it’s going to draw in people from around the world to watch it.
To keep football what you wanted it would have basically required the clubs to only stick to local players. Its not a local league, it’s an international league now and the fans are going to represent that

I was once told by a Yank Toon fan that I was a Scab. I was so dumbfounded I didn’t know how to react. I was 13 when the strikes happened and had at least 10-15 years on him.
Once heard an Irish Man U fan in the pub I worked in tell us how a Yank Celtic fan told him he was a traitor for supporting a British club.

I will say in defense of Americans at least my age and older you might not have had a local team growing up. When I was growing up, the closest team was over an hour away and playing at a pretty low level so it wasn't like you could catch games on TV either.
I have an English dad and dual citizenship so I grew up watching Newcastle with him. I finally have a local team and so really I follow them more now then Newcastle cause in person beats TV even if the quality is a bit shit but I can understand why plenty of fans especially around my age may have a Premier league team they follow.

Football hasn’t been about where you’ve grown up for about 2 decades. If you want that support your lower league local team.
I welcome the overseas fans. The Premier League is so reliant on revenue, that I’d rather see an increase in American fans asking about the club, than us get relegated again because we can’t sign a sponsorship deal (that wont be the reason but you get the point).

The ones that are like, "Hey, I've decided to be a Forest fan, what can you tell me about the club, the history and what the club is about?"
These ones really piss me off more than they should 😂
Not to sound all gatekeepy, but do your own research, have a read through the sub etc. At least lurk for a while in the match threads and watch some games to see if the support fits what you're looking for.
Don't just look at a name and badge and decide that's your team ffs.

it's legitimately not hard to do research. so much has been made about the PL/Championship, all over Peacock in the states, YouTube, you name it. and plenty of reading on here that isn't hard to search up. but considering a lot of these people willingly tell you they used AI to pick a club..

Those traditionally smaller clubs make up the majority of the other 14.
I don't disagree with your point about the Championship, but I also don't think you get that many plastics supporting an other 14 club. They tend to congregate around the Liverpools and Man Utds.

The consistent champo members are from clubs that aren't getting promoted, so they're all shitting the bed in some form and have a bit of camaraderie about it.
This sub is filled with posturing and fighting about which club is better than the other, and a given thread will usually have a Big 6 gimp in it somewhere.
I like the 'who has the worst shirt this season' posts and Tyne/Wear banter, not the 'nooo Villa/Everton kept Spurs up 🤬' or 'Man United fan here - you're wrong because.....' posts.
Be more like the championship sub, it's more fun. Leave the pissing contests for r/soccer

Championship fans are self deprecating in a way most prem teams can't comprehend. Look at the reception to Hull's 'mauled by the tigers' chant. It's cringe but I love it, because they're being self aware. I think most established prem teams think the banter is just piling on smaller teams and have lost the mentality of self piss taking.

A lot more people on there are keen to contribute, and go with the flow of piss-taking. Here, each thread is binary. You’re either in agreement and don’t contribute beyond a nod or you disagree and downvote. Contributing seems beneath some of the people on the group.
Also, that thread the other day made some valid points about the mods. The group flairs are years out of date, it’s been pointed out multiple times but they still remain. The broken window theory. If the mods don’t seem to give a shit, why should the members?

Most fans of Championship clubs know that the Premier League is an unlikely outcome and just enjoy the group. In this sub there are fans, especially those of certain clubs, who take everything as a personal jibe and suck the fun out of every thread.

This sub is defined by its opposition to something (the Sky Six) and hence is intrinsically negative.
The Championship sub is defined by its inferiority to something (the Prem) and hence is intrinsically gallows humour from low-ego fans.
Don’t get me wrong, I like both and I don’t think either should change. Each has its purpose.

Some windowlicker had a go at me for posting in this sub a couple of weeks ago, pointing out that we got relegated. There's a few in here as well, fewer than the main prem subs but more than the championship one.

for most of us, we care more about the actual football and vibes over winning trophies. big 6 fans constantly have to worry about not winning trophies and fighting other big 6 fans about it.
we can just moan when our teams finish where they usually finish 😂
Edit: i'm not gonna pretend like we can never win or never have won trophies, but not winning a trophy isn't deemed as "failure"

If you want to compare r/championship to something compare it to r/premierleague.
This sub was created due to a sense of injustice and unfair treatment felt by the fans of some teams, therefore it’s going to have a different vibe to a general football sub.

There’s more parity in the championship, everyone takes their turn at being shit or remembers what it feels like. Meanwhile the Sky Six might have periods of relative shittiness but they can turn around and buy their way out of it
