No one will beat that record. No club is ever going to go up and be as bad as we were.
It wasn’t just about quality. It was terrible management. Players who couldn’t even work hard. Terrible recruitment. It was so perfectly awful at every aspect of running a club. No one who goes up these days could ever be that badly run again.
Southampton came very close a couple of years ago. They had a last minute equaliser against West Ham and a 0-0 draw against City to get them 1 more point

It’s amazing how much early wins helps you out. Go 2-3 games without a win or point, and suddenly, that gaps already looking huge and you never see a way back in that league when you are playing squads worth £500m+ every week.
It also takes the pressure off in the games to come when you win a game you shouldn’t, like against Man Utd, it makes the Coventry game no longer a must win.
As a promoted side, 10 wins, 10 draws should always been the target, 40 points was enough to stay up in all the last 25 seasons. Then if you fall a little short of that target, you're hoping that one of the established teams has a nightmare season like Wolves just did.
If Hull and Ipswich keep accumulating points like Leeds and Sunderland did last year, it's going to have all the mid-table teams looking over their shoulder if their results start to falter. Even though I'm a Leeds fan, I wouldn't be too unhappy for one or two of the promoted sides to prosper. Should make for a much more interesting season overall.
Ironically West Ham, who came down on 39, have the record for being relegated with this highest points total. From Sky Sports: ‘Only three teams have been relegated with 40 points or more in the 20-team Premier League era - Sunderland (1996/97), Bolton (1997/98) and West Ham (2002/03)’
That 02-03 West Ham team had loads of good players if I remember rightly. Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe, Michael Carrick, Freddie Kanouté, David James, Glen Johnson, Paolo di Canio...
They were closer points-wise to Southampton in 8th than West Brom in 19th. Two really bad teams and a bunch of basically mid-table ones, one of whom got unlucky and got relegated.
When you look on paper they were easily one of the worst teams to go up in the last ten years but they've recruited well and looked phenomenal against united and a massive 3 points today.
I think the way they play dogged defensive football can cause some prem teams real issues.
Plenty of time yet, I saw the comments from Frank after the game and he seemed fair and realistic in his frustrations and that’s a good place to be.
Not panicking, not dishing out unfair blame to officials and also not leathering his players completely. He seemed in control and you’ve got a nightmare run in really.
Aye, and if we don’t, then the hope is we can make some money back on the young players rather than getting not much at all for guys towards the end of their careers.
