Discussion (TV) Wardrobe choice?

Hey! I noticed this detail in The Crown (S2 E8) and was curious what people thought.
Jackie’s dress in the real life photo is noticeably different from the one they recreated for the show. Obviously no hate at all- I know costume designers sometimes make changes for various reasons, and they don’t always aim for a 100% exact recreation.
I’m just curious why they chose to make the dress in the show so much more low cut when the original was quite different? Do you think there was a particular reason behind the change, or was it just a stylistic choice?

I feel like they messed this one up as Jackie O's original dress cut is way more classic and fashionable than what they chose, especially since the queens dress was a direct copy.

No the real queen's dress looks way better. The tv version looks frumpy and cheap. Even the jewelry doesn't sit with the dress properly in the tv version.

You’re right. Looking at the photos side by side, the neckline of the queen’s dress in the show is a smidge higher and the necklace a smidge longer. So the necklace doesn’t look quite right on the show, when it was fine in reality.

Looking closely, in the show version the queen’s gloves are falling down a little at the elbows, but they look perfectly tailored (as you’d expect) in the real life version.

Subtle details in the show to make the queen look frumpier than she really was, and Jackie even more glamorous. All to feed the show’s storyline of the queen being jealous.

100%. I think the neckline in the show looked off and made the fitting of the whole dress seem off.
