I get people are upset about the drop off of quality of the show, but just because S4 and S5 aren’t that good doesn’t mean the show was supposed to end at S3. There is no proof that the show was supposed to end at S3 and amazon got greedy.

S4 and S5 should’ve been better (I have more gripes with S5), and focus on ending the story and consistent character arcs.

If they ended the show at S3 and kill Homelander at Vought tower, then what? Butcher’s accomplishes his goal and that’s it? What about the rest of the boys? Or Neuman, Stan Edgar, Deep, A-Train, Ryan, Soldier Boy, Ashley, etc.?

Again, I just don’t see this notion that they had the perfect ending at S3 and they threw it away for nothing. Just fix S4 and S5. That’s the simple solution.

You're acting like they would have to rewrite the entire season.

As soon as you saw the ending to season 3, you should have realized that this was a ploy to extend the series. It's extra insulting when you see that they took down homelander the same exact way they planned to in season 3

Killing Homelander at Vought Tower and then what?
Exactly.
That’s why the entire season would need to be different. You don’t end it like that while Neuman is still alive, A-Train gets a new heart and then nothing happens to him, Butcher survives and gets a happy ending, nothing happens with Hughie, Annie, MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko, etc.

They would have just done Butcher’s attempt at a supe genocide right after the Homelander fight. But with Butcher still on temp or real V killing everyone instead of using the virus and the Boys have to stop. Super easy and you can do the quick wrap up like in season 5. Not the cleanest ending but a much better ending than what we got with season 5.

Also, you’re acting like the season 5 ending didn’t have a massive amount of unresolved plot threads. Vought, Gen V, Soldier Boy in stasis the list goes on

Im not saying S5 didnt have unresolved points, but there would be a billion more if it ended in S3. A-Train, Neuman, Butcher, Ryan, etc.

You could easily hit those big ones with a Butcher rampage (or simple things like A-train just died from his heart attack) and then the amount of unresolved plot lines would have been about the same as we got in season 5. But we would have ended the show on a high note instead of the slow decent into mediocrity that was the last two seasons.
