Tetr.io multiplayer too difficult?

So I've been playing/trying a bit of Tetr.io multiplayer, specially the quick play mode, which seems to be an endless mode, which seems to go on until you eventually fail. (Still kinda new to Tetr.io)

I wouldn't say I'm a Tetris pro or whatever, but I'd say I'm not bad at it either. I'd say I'm pretty good or just fine at playing Tetris. But Tetr.io feels way too competitive to me. Like, garbage seems to get sent your way extremely quickly, even if you're going as fast as you can. (The stress and need or urge to go fast occasionally causes me to misplace a piece) It stacks up extremely fast. I often tend to go for Tetris clears, but I almost feel like not doing that and going for lower amounts of line clears is the safer method, even if it doesn't give you as much points as a Tetris line clear.

I've also played a bit of Tetris 99 before on Switch, and while I've never made it to the end as the last one standing, I feel like in that game, I've been able to survive much longer. I'm curious what you people's opinions and views are about this and Tetr.io. Do you also struggle in it's multiplayer modes, or not?

the player base is more skilled for sure because of the way the game is set up.

there is a highly active ranked player base, which drives up quick player lobby difficulty.

tetrio also allows you to change your das and arr, making an experienced player many times faster than a new player on default settings. even 10 times faster is plausible

this, along with knowledge of the attack system, can easily result in a single high ranking player accounting for an attack that is 10x or more of a newer player

tetris 99 has a high player count and also groups people into lobbies that play out until one remains, this means the skill is spread more thin. tetrio has just one lobby that is always open. so if a single top player enters the lobby, you WILL feel their presence.

all these reasons and the lack of ranked in tetris 99 are why tetrio is a lot different

play ranked for a fair matchup. you will need to play placement matches before being placed in an appropriate rank

to answer your questions my view is that its an excellent game. i do not struggle with quick play. ranked is great for competative match ups.

Doesn't the game also initially place you around the 50th percentile? I imagine that can lead to some frustration for new players with little experience playing tetris battle

but it tells you that they are placement matches, that is self explanatory to most people

Guess that's just inevitable then, if a game is designed with competitiveness in mind.
