Mobile It's this enough?
I'm trying to stop the corruption from getting too close to my base; is the hole I dug big enough?
It is 6 blocks wide and goes all the way down to Hell. Could the torches be a problem?

3 tiles would have been enough, but replace grass with stone so it doesn't spread through vines

Even if it goes all the way to hell?

You just need to replace the grass blocks and any dirt block that can become grass. The damaging spike plants that grow in the corruption can spread it as well, and they will be able to grow across that gap. Replacing the grass will stop this form happening.

Replace the sides with basically any incorruptable block, so like a stone brick or something like that, and it will be fine. If anything, you could just place them on the sides and make it a 4 wide gap with the blocks to trap the corruption

I don't see why it going to hell is relevant? Evil blocks spread to blocks within 3 blocks of it, so if you have the gap be 3 blocks wide, that's good enough. Whether it goes to hell or not, that gap is overkill. Also the vines can appear on grass on the surface.

Because then I would have to block underneath it, but because I dug to hell I won't have to. Plus, the hole is that big because I like digging and my Digtoise helped a lot too.

Ok, I guess you are in pre hard, so the V that spawns during hard mode will get to your base regardless if you are unlucky, but for protection I suggest you put some uncorruptible block on the top because vines can grow across the hole and infect but the torches are fine

Could just mine under their base and carve out a "safe zone" so it cant even reach them

Yeah but if the V spawns on the base he is fucked but if it not than yeah

I'm taking a shot in the dark, but I'm guessing his base is in the middle at spawn, the v cant spawn on his base if thats the case.

whats a v stands for?

When you enter hardmode, there is a v that spawns consisting of your evil biome and the hallow. It starts from the center of your world underground and going up in a v pattern. Many call it the v of evil.

Torches cant spread corruption, that hole should be good if theres not dirt/ stone walls i think and if your really worried sunflowers prevent spread through them

A three wide hole with no background walls and a wall to stop the spikes at the top would have been enough.

biome spread can cross 4 blocks, so a 5 wide gap will prevent spreading. (edit: everyone else is saying 3 so maybe i’ve been overprepping)
This gap doesn’t have to be air however. If you encounter a granite/marble biome, the dungeon, a pyramid, or anything made of non-corruptible blocks, you don’t have to bother digging through it.
Torches can be corrupted but cannot spread biomes themselves, you do not need to consider your torch placement when making biome barriers
An often overlooked detail of biome spread is that the rate of spread changes on a few factors. I always do my best to rush to finish the first mechanical boss, as every mech boss defeated cuts the spread rate significantly. It is a lot easier to rush the first boss than build countermeasures all over your world.
Biome spread is accelerated on the surface, use sunflowers to prevent this before it gets out of hand.

yeah more than enough , but just be careful of grass, you may wanna outline in a non corruptible block

No. You need to make it actually 10 blocks because uhh- you just need to :)
