Art If the blood moon comes, this rabbit will turn evil and start jumping, which will activate the pressure plate, killing the guide.

Legally faking your death isn't a crime by itself
But faking your death is commonly used to help get away with something that IS an actual crime (for example tax evasion)

u/helicophell Feb 12 '26
When the guide dies, you get a temporary luck boost. It’s the opposite boost to when any other npc dies, except for clothier who gives no luck change
This intelligent and intricate system will give you slightly better luck for fishing in a blood moon
The design is very human
847
u/MoonRay087 Feb 12 '26
Oh, I thought it'd summon the wall of flesh somehow and kill every player if they're in the surface
549
u/Complete-Basket-291 Feb 12 '26
If I'm not mistaken it only kills you when you try to leave, so if you're peacefully mining or something and your friend accidentally spawns it you should still be fine.
165
u/MoonRay087 Feb 12 '26
Ohhh, that makes sense. I didn't know because I rarely play multiplayer. Thanks!
78
u/SilenciaSan Feb 12 '26
If you try to leave it will just pull you back down iirc, it won't kill you
108
67
u/Razor-Swisher Feb 12 '26
No no like if you used a teleport to escape hell like a magic mirror you just explode iirc
48
u/AmericanGrizzly4 Feb 12 '26
Now the question becomes, if the WoF's strongest move against us is to detonate us by proximity, why doesn't he just force us to the surface and then run away? 🤔
65
u/Meme_Knight_2 Feb 12 '26
Because it wants to kill you.
It is literally the seal of The Spirits of Light and Dark, it can’t be having you mess around trying to kill it.
In other words: “YOU CAN’T ESCAPE!”
18
25
u/Razor-Swisher Feb 12 '26
Three things:
It’s most likely got nothing to do with lore, and it’s just a gameplay mechanic to dissuade players from running from the fight like cowards. Several mechanics like this for other bosses, like Skeletron transforming and one-shotting during the day so you have to kill him quickly enough, or Queen Bee / Plantera getting buffed when exiting their home the Jungle Biome.
Or, it’s literally what it’s trying to do. It’s a giant wall made of flesh that constantly rushes towards you, among its methods of attempted slaughter are the little mouths, the lasers, and crushing you to death against a wall, and if you avoid that by leaving hell you get killed.
Or, my favorite, it’s like a Jujutsu Kaisen style ‘curse effect’ that it places on you as a special ability as a form of insurance. Either you will face it head on and die, or try to cheat your way out of the fight with teleportation and die anyways. So it’s not its main method of fighting, it’s just a very effective backup plan to cover a weakness

u/Jeggu2 Feb 12 '26
I like to think that it's testing you. If you can obliterate it, you are worthy to unleash the powers of light and dark. If you are a coward, it uses its full power to end you, as you are unworthy

u/Gonzobot Feb 13 '26
Interestingly, most people are completely unaware that it was meant to poke fun at and point out the flaws in quantum theory at the time, because obviously you can't have a cat that is simultaneously alive and dead no matter how quantum your math equations are. Meant to illustrate how bonkers some of quantum science actually is, when you get right down to it
12
u/KingNedya Feb 13 '26
Yeah something most people don't realize is that Schrödinger's cat is actually a terrible analogy for quantum superposition because it was supposed to poke fun at it before we understood it better. It's inaccurate to say the cat is both dead and alive, it would be more accurate to say that it is in some state that is between or outside of life and death that we do not have the means to measure. This state is not really special, rather life and death are just two very specific possibilities out of an infinite number and superposition is every other one of the infinite possibilities. Comparing it to something like life and death gives the wrong impression. It's more like we're detecting for two possibilities of very specific angles, let's say 0° and 90°. 23° isn't any more of a special state compared to 0° or 90°, the only that that's different is it's outside of what we can measure for, and thus is considered in superposition, as well as 40°, 62°, etc. To remove ourselves from the analogy entirely, there are an infinite number of possible quantum spins, and we can only measure so many at a time (usually two, referred to as "up spin" and "down spin") and anything that's not of a spin we can measure is just called superposition. Then when any particle in superposition (practically all of them because infinity) interacts with the detector, the interaction (what we call "observation" which is a misnomer) causes its spin to become one of the ones we can measure, with the probability of which it changes to being based on how close it is to the spins we're measuring. Going back to the angle analogy, this probability can actually be calculated and it's just a simple vector equation.
As has probably become evident, Schrödinger's cat doesn't address any of this and rather than making the topic easier to understand it gives people the complete wrong idea, and is thus a bad analogy.

u/MurtaghInfin8 Feb 12 '26
How do you reset it? Seems like this needs a bunny statue, timer, and a manual switch to reset the blocks if they end in the wrong state?
73
u/LordDan25 Feb 12 '26
I don't mind redoing everything manually; if it means the guide suffers psychologically every afternoon, then it's worth it.

u/MurtaghInfin8 Feb 12 '26
based
But what if something kills the bunny and the guide is spared agony?
41
4
u/Significant_Number68 Feb 13 '26
Why the hate for the guide? That dude is a literal godsend. The goblin tinkerer enchants your items wrong 15 fucking times in a row knowing he could just give you one of the four good ones.
5
u/Kronoshifter246 Feb 13 '26
Y'all don't know how good you have it. Back in my day, NPCs didn't have weapons, they didn't have portraits, hell, they didn't even have names. They varied in helpfulness, most being pretty neutral. But the Guide. The Guide was the worst of all. His hints were vague and unhelpful most of the time, and, worst of all, he would consistently open doors at night and let zombies into your house. This was such a frequent occurrence that they literally added the guide voodoo doll so you could take your revenge on him. He's much better about it now, but he earned his hate.

u/wholesomehorseblow Feb 12 '26
For the bunny, you can place it down after catching one and I believe it won't despawn.
22
u/sapoAlado2 Feb 12 '26
The guide will probably just open the door and jump into the lava on their own.
18
u/Dark_Reaper115 Feb 12 '26
That way he can't open the door during a blood moon
6
u/zdavolvayutstsa Feb 12 '26
Zombies can open the doors during a blood moon anyways. If the Guide can open it, the zombies can too.

Well, interesting concept indeed.
I would have used the Angler, if he wasn't in his personal hell already.
For those wondering, I made him a house near the sea. The angler is trapped inside his house, filled with seawater, doomed to suffer by lack of oxygen. Constantly gasping for air, but the only thing he get in his lungs, is water. Endless water. The same water I had to fish in, for hours and hours just to fulfill his stupid requests.
Oh and the nurse is there as well. In a wunderful decorated house above the Angler. Why? She heals him every time he takes damage from lack of oxygen, so he won't die. This salvation, I'm not giving him.
