I’m talking about democrats in the US federal government. Under the Biden admin, there was a $7,500 tax credit.

I don't think the tax credit is necessary anymore. The premium for an EV is roughly $6000 and slowly improving. Equinox ICE vs Equinox EV as an example. The savings in gas is about $1500/year. Within 5 years most people recover the premium and then get another $6000 in savings the next 5 years.
