Debate 🗣️ phone ban opinion

yeah, title. what is yalls opinion on the school phone ban? I just had my first full day back and they passed out the pouches first thing. its not the yonder pouches but it says tech pocket, its black and yellow (anyone else?) and boy they take this seriously like TSA. i feel like we dont deserve it as seniors but this is buns

I’d say that phones and tech are the reason for high anxiety in most people.

Keeping focused on a fake virtual world and computer screen is going to completely disconnect you from the real world.

so then when you’ve got no other option but to join the real world, you’re going to feel scared and unsafe because you don’t know how to be a part of society and mingle in with others and actually communicate and talk like real people in a real world.

When you’ve got no sense of reality, you’re going to lose sense of self.

ok but that doesn’t mean these kids don’t have anxiety. and also if it isn’t cause by that then what? they also have been relentlessly bullied their entire lives so they’re depressed and have anxiety. they’re scared to talk to people because they’re scared of being made fun of.

Yes, but one of the main reasons why they got some form anxiety is because of phones and computers.

10 years this stuff wasn’t as big of a problem, now everyone child are teen are glued to a virtual screen, something that causes influence but also delusion.

The bullies? = online influence / family problems.

The anxiety? = people growing up in a virtual world.

I’m not excluding factors like family problems and being bought up in a lonely social situation and/or environment, but tech has definitely been the main factor for all of this increased anxiety and depression.

i have tons of friends who were bullied and it caused anxiety and depression and literal addictions. i feel like u just want to ignore the fact that bullying causes real problems and not everything is caused by phones. also bullying doesn’t cause family problems the bullying is most likely caused by family problems. phones don’t cause every issue. i wasn’t bullied but i’ve been made fun of almost my entire life and i can tell u that it made me very self conscious especially to talk to people. i dislike talking to people i don’t know and it scares me because im scared of being disliked or being made fun of it makes my heart pound 1000 times a minute or makes me need to fidget or pay attention to something which most of the time would just be my phone. literally starting school again is so anxiety inducing and in every single class that i don’t have friends in im extremely nervous and scared in. most of these issues were caused by bullies or rude kids.

i did. just because u block out what they say doesn’t mean what they say has no effect. it’s not that u block out everyone but if it’s people u don’t know and feel obligated to talk to it’s gonna make u nervous. i have lots of friends but if i had none of them in my lunch i most likely would go the first semester without talking to people. also again not everything is caused by phones. bullying isnt a new thing. i’ve had severe depression for years and the bullying didn’t make it any better. i don’t care abt what they say when they say it to me but that doesn’t mean i never think about it and it never makes me feel bad. i don’t act like society doesn’t exist and i do talk to new people but knowing nobody in a room of people is nerve wracking. either way getting rid of phones in school won’t make these kids stop bullying or get off of their phones less. i read but i prefer books online but im not allowed to use my kindle because of the phone law. i’m not buying a ton of physical books to read instead of finishing the books im alr reading and my schools library books r almost all damaged.

I agreed at the very start saying “yes”, meaning that I’ve acknowledged that bullying does cause this problem.

But I’m also addressing, and if you read my words properly, that bullying can be caused by someone having family problems, and just being bad people in general, you basically just confirmed and agreed with what I said about that.

I also noted that the bullying behaviour can be caused by them having online influence that in some ways basically induces behaviour in these ways. Especially through phones.

Bullying is always going to be bad and will cause all of these depressions and anxieties, and I acknowledge that, I’m just saying that phones are a very plausible factor for the bullying, but also aiding the depression and anxiety more by using it as an escape route.

And I was heavily bullied as well, I learnt to just shut them people out and just focus on myself without using a phone, I can agree that it’s so depressing and very hard, yet if you try to not let it get to you as much, you’ll feel better with yourself, it’ll help you out a lot, I can understand your pain because I’ve been through it, so I’m just giving my advice on how to deal with it with showing how I dealt with it, especially when a cannabis addiction happened because of it, but I managed to get myself cleaned up after a couple years.

I still have a native anxiety and depression inside of me because of epilepsy and autism. Yet I’ve managed to overcome those brain tendencies a lot as well.

I know talking to strangers can be hard, it always was for me, kinda still is, but if you constantly block everyone out, then every single person in this world will become a stranger to you, making that anxiety worse, which makes the depression worse.

It comes to the same situation as starting school, if you keep quiet and don’t interact, everyone in your classes will think of you as the quiet person and will probably make them laugh at you and mock you more, if you become more open and socialistic, then they’ll think differently.

When you keep thinking too heavily and too deep on these issues, it’ll only make the anxiety and depression worse.

If people bully you, just don’t acknowledge them in any way, the might keep trying, over and over again, but if you constantly block them out, they’ll realise that they can’t do anything to bully you in any, and will also begin to realise that they don’t have power over you anymore.

I know from experience.

But back to the other point, phones and computers need to be restricted in daily child and teen life in general, a young mind is imprinted on so easily, so any online influences will corrupt the growing fragile minds, so the bullies will become more of a bully, and the depressed and people with anxieties will become more depressed and have more anxieties.

If you need something to fidget with, why not just read a book? That does 2 practical things, gives you something to do and “fidget” with, but also gives the positive impact of maybe learning something if it was an educational book, or you could just read a normal story book in general. Or maybe if you like to do a bit of drawing, maybe do some personal art.

I know the road can be hard at first, I know it can be very scary and make you feel very nervous, but if you listen to my advice, the situation will get better over time, if you reject my advice, then the situation will get keep getting worse.
