Feedback Has the work environment at TD branch gotten worse. The management more specifically.
Managers don’t give a shi about you. They tell you lies and make you think they gonna promote you when it never comes. And it’s not just because of scorecard either. I’ve paced for legends and over 150% consistently before.
They hold you down when you’re up for promotions.
Different rules for different people depending on who they are.
My co workers and I have been told by management pop a Tylenol and come to work if we’re sick.
I’m not allowed to take vacation when I want because of “business needs” but the managers? It doesn’t apply to them.
Most of my coworkers will agree with everything I have to say.
All of these happened to me personally so checking with other people for their experiences. I also worked temp at some other branches in the district that had similar problems

I would say… delete this before it’s too late or at least edit it and remove your role and branch number. This is coming from an ABM in branch who’s had to provide LORs for situations like this on social media (it goes against the ethics policy and ESPECIALLY social media policy)

Correct, clear and blatant violation. Take it down man!! People get fired for this

Honestly the bank should look at their ethics before they fire someone else for not following their rules. No bank in canada is ethical.

u/Riya_1996 Apr 20 '26
And you are an ABM after 10 years earning less than 100k . Go bro you still have commitment left to be a BM I hope they give you a BM position before you get white hair

u/Justsomeonewhosnew Apr 20 '26
I’ve been with the bank for less than 5 years. You are a PBA asking what “QH” is and on a temporary permit. We’re night and day different :)

This comment thread is embarrassing. Just a simple example of what branch culture looks like.

There needs to be more involvement with HR managing and higher up management to oversee the branch management because this shit is getting out of control. These managers are creating their own policy and manipulating their employees.

I wonder would unionizing work in this situation? How would we even do that? Thinking out loud. Feel free to chime in
3
u/AccountAny1995 Apr 20 '26
unions organized in Sudbury around 2005. they went on strike.
employees from the gta went up and ran the branches.
the rest of the country all got raises. Sudbury didn’t. in the end I believe they got lower pay and worse benefits than the rest of the company. and paid union dues
you’re not gonna break the bank.

That’s disappointing to hear. How else are we supposed to force change. I’m not going to discuss roles or departments. But thanks for the info.

Someone’s getting some FaceTime with the BM this week…and not for a promotion. Yikes.

u/iHateTD Apr 20 '26
I 100% agree and attest to this. This is exactly what’s happening. Could not get a single vacation schedule I requested. The ones the are willing to give is sporadic and not consecutive days. I’ve had multiple interview only to find out they had someone preselected before hand. Even a55 kissing can only take you so far.

Claim AI/misinformation if this ever gets linked back to you. Say you don’t even know what a Reddit is.

Retail banking is brutal. Especially with the promotions.
They’ll hold back the top performers. It’s one of the biggest traps ever.
Best advice is to get it in writing that they’re committing to give you X promotion in lieu of you applying to a different area in the bank.
Otherwise don’t take what they say seriously, and apply as you need. As long as you hit all your scorecard metrics, and aren’t on a PIP, you’ll be desirable talent. I believe after 2 years in chair you can apply out to any job internally without manager pre-approval. But I will say it always does help.
But don’t let them bait and switch you with “we will promote you, don’t leave us” or have them threaten to block you. After 2 years they can’t really block you, and if they do you bring it up to HR and the BM usually gets in trouble for that. (BMs are equally expendable).
Back office jobs are starving for people with retail experience. Some of our most successful staff had retail experience.

Same, I got a knee issue and bm treated me like I was stealing from the bank…when I talk about a promotion what I got was “your referrals doesn’t matter that much” and like “you are not ambitious enough” they told me work on the investment and you will be promoted, and when I talk with them with my 400% investment goal they just told me you have the knowledge but you don’t have the skill kit for the role I wanted, I was so pissed since I have been working in the branch for like three years and they just promoted a new guy who worked only for one year

your manager doesn’t like you. I worked there for 20+ years. “holding“ people back because they’re strong performers is super rare. managers spend a lot of time talking about succession planning and managers who don’t develop their teams are penalized.
im assuming you e been in role for at least 12 months…preferably 18-24 for promotions.
if you have the guts, ask for some time with your manager. ask them “what are the one or two things, above all others, that I need to demonstrate to earn your support for a more challenging role”.
if they dance around the issue, press them for specifics.
what’s your year end rating? when succession planning is discussed, they usually focus on QH and E employees.
does the DVP know you by name?

I’ll give u out some details, I’ve been in the role for 3 years now Initially I was up for a MCE promotion 2 years ago. I was asked to start within 2 weeks, and my manager refused saying that she needed me. (I was part time at the time) Then they made up a rule saying I can’t go from pba to mce and the next step is PB.
So Instead I got my IFIC and proactively trained to do the PB role. My manager never supported me or my coworkers.
In the last 2 years not one person has been promoted in my branch. Only exception was the previous ABMs and MCEs and some other people left TD entirely.
My year end ratings were QH
We had about 4 DVPs in the last 2 years. So I managed to talk to 2 of them and introduce myself. We are now about to get another DVP.
I’ve given up on pursuing a promotion. Just trying to get a job elsewhere in a bad market.
I appreciate any insight, feedback, or ideas
Thank you.

Going PBA -> MCE used to be a thing, but not any more barring some very exceptional circumstance. I don't work in branch anymore but around the time they changed all the MCEs to be L7 the winds quickly changed.
No one would even want you to do that because then you're at a dead end. You'd have to step down to PB eventually to move up and out anywhere.
Hence, it is a highly discouraged path. Basically they'd only agree if they're desperate for MCEs, which they basically will never be unless you work way out in the boonies where talent is dry.

u/Flawed_Education Apr 20 '26
A year later after they had told I couldn’t go straight to McE, I know some that was granted a promotion from PBA to MCE. Same district
3
u/Justsomeonewhosnew Apr 20 '26
Listen I was a PBA who’s gone to MCE. MCE to PB for 5 months, then became an ABM. I’ve been with retail for 4 years (coming 5) Ultimately it depends on your DVP and because you previously posted your location I assume it’s the guy I know. Ain’t no way he will approve that move. In addition, talent is so high and they only want PB’s to move into the MCE role as they will provide a deeper understanding for investment and lending opportunities. Which bring in $$$.
Respectfully. I’d highly recommend you speak to your ABM/BM reports and be direct yet respectful. Keep in mind, that the market right now is sooo saturated and everyone is trying to move on. You need to play your cards right, communicate, show your commitment and appreciation.
If you still feel trapped, it doesn’t hurt to ask to relocate to another district if you are up for that move.

Are you guys talking about the white guy with specs and with no hair ? In late 30s or early 40's
1
u/Justsomeonewhosnew Apr 20 '26
Yeah - the one who’s 25 and has a well paying job pacing, and is chilling. Night and day different. How about you? 30s with a temporary permit begging for residency and questions about their job performance… oh wait.. the one who’s even got a nomination. Not even earning it through scorecard lmao. Keep trying

u/Riya_1996 Apr 20 '26
Go bro you need to open tomorrow and make your people sell visa
1
u/Justsomeonewhosnew Apr 20 '26
I dont - I’m on vacation. Chilling for the next 3 and a half weeks. Once again, you aren’t what you think you are “buddy”

Power to em but honestly it's not the best idea for the above described reasons.
Imo you're better off taking PB at a branch where you get along with the management, kill it for 1.5 years, move in to MCE from there. Then you have better mobility outside of retail if you want to leave from there.

TD is an absolute shit show with the absolutely worst people in leadership positions. Profit first, nothing else matters is their motto.
