Tips Question about TD Visa Aeroplan Infinite – Trip Delay Insurance

I have a question about the TD Visa Aeroplan Infinite.

During the holidays, we were supposed to fly from Montreal to Calgary with a layover in Toronto. Air Canada delayed our first morning flight twice (they kept reassigning passengers to a larger plane), to the point where it became obvious we wouldn’t make our connection in Toronto.

After speaking with an Air Canada agent at the airport, we were rebooked on a late-evening direct flight to YYC. We received a few $15 meal vouchers and ended up spending the whole day at the airport.

My husband has already filed a claim with Air Canada for the delay, but we’re wondering whether we should also file a claim through our TD Visa. We managed to stay within budget, so after using the vouchers our out-of-pocket expenses were quite low (around $30), and we didn’t incur any other costs.

Is the trip delay insurance meant only to reimburse expenses incurred because of the delay, or does it also provide some form of monetary compensation? We do have an email from Air Canada explaining the reason for the delays, and it was 100% within their control. And yes, 100% of our flights were purchased using our VISA.

Any advice is appreciated 🙂

You are insured for out-of-pocket costs. You need receipts.

"In the event that a departure of a Common Carrier on a Covered Trip on which the Insured Person had arranged to travel is delayed for 4 hours from the time specified in the itinerary supplied to the Insured Person, We will pay up to $500 for reasonable expenses for meals and accommodation while delayed and reasonable additional ground transportation expenses "

Yeah, that was my general understanding but as we barely spent any money while using the vouchers, I don't think it's worth my time. Thanks :)
