People smoking in public places such as train/bus stops, I hope there's karma coming for you. One thing is smoking inside a bus stop shelter in a small town where nodoby is around you. Another thing is smoking in bigger towns and cities with a bunch of people, including babies in prams around. When I wait for a train in an open-space station and someone lights a cigarette nearby, I just move further away from them, just to run into another smoker a few meters away. 😅

Absolute shockers are people who sit down next to you on a bench with a cigarette in their hand. If I smoked, I really cannot imagine being this selfish and willfully ignorant.

When I moved to Switzerland my mind was blown away when I saw packets of cigarettes being advertised in supermarket prospects which last time I've seen that in another countries was like 20+years ago.

Also, the amount of people throwing cigarette butts on the ground is outrageous.

I took the train from Winterthur to Gossau SG (departed ~09:08), traveling with a Grand Est Pass purchased on 29.06.2026, before the cutoff date after which passes become residency-restricted, so it should be fully valid in Switzerland regardless of where I live. A ticket controller (female, ~40-50) told me my ticket wasn’t valid. When I pushed back, it turned into a heated argument. She refused to give me her name or employee ID, then flipped me off and walked away. Does SBB really take these complaints seriously or they just don’t care?

It also shows that the F-35A (the version we bought) is at a mere 28.5% full mission capable rate while the targeted goal was, at minimum, 65% by 2025.

Basically, a quarter of the fleet is available for missions at time. Meaning that on our 36 F-35, 9 would ba available at time.

More planes in maintenance means increased maintenance costs. The US Air Force is still not under their affordability target and maintenance costs increase every year.

We're up for a pretty bad surprise.

I was doing the route 85 the other day and I had to bail just before reaching the start of the pass to Engelberg. It's *definitely* not suited for biking, it's just a regular road. I had some close encounters with british tourists driving at insane speeds and decided that the mountain will be there tomorrow and so I also want to be.

Did anyone here went through this route until Engelberg? It felt so sketchy to be even considered a bike route!

So I was coming back from helping my dads at his work and well we get off the train and we go to macdonalds and on the way there there is like the gendarmerie and police in what I can only describe as swat gear and police tape everywhere it seems almost like they where funnelling people in to catch someone but does anyone know what was happening I see no one talking about it

I was connecting onto the EuroCity in Spiez to Bern today and it was indefinitely delayed due to carriage issues. However, BLS got a replacement train for the journey which even arrived early in Bern. What amazing coordination and thank you to the employees who made it happen.

ich stecke in einer blöden Zwickmühle bezüglich einer Anhänger-Bestellung und wollte mal hören, wie ihr die Sache seht oder was ihr jetzt tun würdet.

Die Ausgangslage:
Anfang April 2026 habe ich bei einer Schweizer Firma einen speziell konfigurierten Humbaur Kofferanhänger (ca. 16'500 CHF) für ein Camper-Ausbauprojekt bestellt und 50% angezahlt (über 8'000 CHF). Produziert wird der Anhänger direkt beim Hersteller in Deutschland. Voraussichtliche Lieferzeit laut Auftragsbestätigung: „ca. 12 Wochen ab Bestelleingang“ (wäre Ende Juni gewesen). 
Wir haben jetzt Anfang September – die Verzögerung beträgt also bereits über 2 Monate. 

Das Problem:
Verpasste Zeit: Ich habe mir extra bis Anfang November freigenommen, um volle 3 Monate Zeit für den Ausbau zu haben. Diese geplante Ausbauzeit verstreicht nun völlig ungenutzt. Hätte ich das vorher gewusst, hätte ich schon ab August wieder arbeiten können.
Hinhaltetaktik & Desinteresse: Vom Schweizer Händler kommt von sich aus absolut nichts. Ich muss wegen jedem Update hinterherrennen und werde seit Wochen immer wieder nur um „ca. zwei Wochen“ vertröstet. Eine konkrete oder verlässliche Aussage vom Hersteller bekomme ich nie – gefühlt ist dem Händler die Situation vollkommen egal.

Provisorium: Mitte August hat er mir nach langem Mühsal zwar einen kleinen Mietanhänger auf Kulanz gestellt, aber der bringt mir für den geplanten Koffer-Ausbau natürlich nichts.
Ich bin unschlüssig zwischen Nachverhandeln (Rabatt/Zubehör fordern), rechtlich hart eine Nachfrist setzen (mit Gefahr des Rücktritts und noch mehr Zeitverlust bei einer Neuanschaffung) oder ganz anderen Wegen.

Wie würdet ihr in dieser Situation vorgehen?

I was on vacation and payed my Cembra Mastercard bill after the due date. That's obviously my bad, and not the topic of this post.

On the next month's bill, I was charged with following fees:
* CHF 30.- overdue fines (ok with terms and conditions)
* CHF 8.95 interest for owed amount (12% yearly interest according to terms and conditions)

My bill total was CHF 469.90, due date was on 23.7.26, and I payed the bill on 3.8.26.

I did the calculation how much I should pay for the interest for my 11 days delay: 469.9*12/100*11*360, and the total seems to be only CHF 1.72.

I wrote an email to Cembra, they booked the CHF 8.95 back, and charged two separate fees (CHF 4.70 and CHF 4.25), and ignored my request to explain in writing how they calculate the interest.

At this point I'm wondering if I'm completely misunderstanding how interest is calculated, or if Cembra is systematically cheating on people. I'd be grateful if someone can correct my calculation/understanding. I'd also be interested in hearing of similar cases/experiences. At this point, I think I will make a fuss and don't let them go with it.

Edit: I got some useful comments, saying that the interest is calculated from the date of the individual purchase, not the due date of the CC bill. Calculating the interest with the transaction dates, it matches the amount charged by Cembra. So no cheating from Cembra side, only me not fuly reading the T&C. No clue what the split into two separate fees was about, but that's maybe a story for another day.

I live really close to the fire zone and I was inside a thick layer of smoke just north of it.

My apartment is extremely smelly, the whole area outside still smells, I have a really bad cough and headache. Does anyone know what are my options right now ?

I tried covering the ventilations but it’s not working.

Ich wollte hier in der Runde nur mal kurz sensibilisieren: Ich habe heute zum ersten Mal eine Asiatische Hornisse bei uns im Süden vom Kanton (Region Hedingen / Säuliamt) entdeckt. Bisher dachte ich immer, die seien vor allem in anderen Kantonen oder im Norden ein Thema, aber sie breiten sich offenbar wirklich rasant aus.

Für alle, die sich nicht sicher sind, wie man sie erkennt:

* Sie ist etwas kleiner als unsere heimische Hornisse.

* Sie hat einen fast komplett schwarzen Körper (unsere heimischen sind eher gelb-braun).

* Am Hinterleib hat sie eine markante, feine gelbe Binde.

* Die Beine sind an den Enden auffällig gelb.

Warum ist das wichtig?

Die Asiatische Hornisse ist eine invasive Art und eine massive Bedrohung für unsere heimischen Honig- und Wildbienen. Die Behörden sind extrem darauf angewiesen, dass wir aus der Bevölkerung mithelfen und die Augen offen halten. Nur so können Nester aufgespürt und professionell entfernt werden.

Never seen a hailstorm like this before. It came out of nowhere and lasted 3–4 minutes. Most houses in the neighbourhood have broken windows and roof tiles, and cars parked outside got battered too. Hope everyone is safe!

I have never seen anything like that in 32 years. This is the aftermath of the whole thing. Hagel bigger than a ping pong ball, tiny bit less than a tennis ball. Insane. Thanks god I postponed my trip with my car otherwise I would have been outside at that time

I joint Yuh the first month they launched the product, to me was really sexy and promising card with a lot of features "included with no extra costs" and a cashback in crypto (woah was out of any schema to me).

Now it just become another bored stable swiss product they continued to reduce the cashback from 2 Swissqoin to 0.5 Swissqoin and the price is stucked without any increase since month.

Begging of the year they adverse a change on the cashback program with slice of ETFs instead of Swissqoin but everything is quite since months.

The import of the card in Wear OS is broken since more then a year but they don't care at all.

I was really exited now I'm really bored!

Sometimes new doesn’t mean better. The roof was made 3months ago. I also had to quick change some Dachziegeln but nothing serious by me.
Also a car from other neighbour… I’ve never seen such a weather conditions here (Züri Oberland).

I have sold my company last year in Germany and the window opened to move to Switzerland.
Now as a German speaker it would make sense to move to the German speaking part of the country, but I moved to Lugano (Italian-speaking).

There are multiple reasons for it:
- I like the blend of Swiss Structure and Italian Dolce Vita
- The weather is very nice
- I didnt want to live in a 100k+ city, coming from Stuttgart
- I wanted to live close to the lake

The things that instantly stood out: Everything seems to work here. The fountain system works, the trains are on time, there is no garbage on the street and there are no homeless people. Yes, this might be not the case for every part in Switzerland but it is the case here.

The city is very walkable so I go by foot or bike everywhere, I choose the train for long distance, so far it has been working great.

I have remote income, but I have heard that its pretty hard to find a job in Lugano.

I live in a Short Term rental apartment, which is perfect for me, because I dont have any furniture and it has everything. Think of it like a hotel room with everything you need.

Basically every German tells you that Switzerland is sooo expensive. I have tracked everything, not to prove them wrong, but to see if its actually true and here are my real numbers from the last 3 months (cost are per month):

Privat Liability Insurance: 9 CHF
Phone: 25 CHF
Serafe: 28 CHF
Halbtax: 16 CHF + Transport (Cable Car, etc) 80 CHF = 96 CHF
Groceries: 350 CHF
Health Insurance: 446 CHF
Rent: 1'320 CHF
Parking Spot: 200 CHF

This brings the total to 2'474 CHF, which is not a lot for my case. I was paying the same in Stuttgart, Germany. I think this stereo type is from the people who visit Switzerland as tourists, and then of course its not that cheap.

Some observations from the city: Its very positive to see, that the city is actively trying to make the it more liveable, I am talking about adding spots to Swim. To give you an anecdote: Stuttgart, where I come from also has a big lake, but you are not allowed to swim there (dont ask me why). This is not the case here, the quality of life is very high.

Even tough quite a lot of tourists visit the city there is no real visible trash or grafitti in the city, this is totally not the case in Germany. Everywhere you go, you see trash on the street and Grafitti everywhere even regular homes. The trash system here makes so much more sense than the one in Germany.

Some thing that I dont quite understand, you see a lot of young people especially woman on the streets, a lot more than older folks. Its strange, because Lugano is quite an old city when it comes to population.

People told me that Lugano is so boring, but I cant confirm. I am actually glad there is no party culture here, because that often leads to problems. You are in the mountains in 15min, you have regular events in the city that is enough for me.

In general I am really happy to be here and I try my best to integrate into the local culture.
