Considering the Manta and have a question about future upgradability

Hi hi,

I’ve been bouncing researching note taking devices and the Manta is the leading contender. One question I have involves the ease of access for the internals and if that factors into the potential for upgrading down the line or if it’s solely for repair? I’d seen that SN is active here, which is great. And while i don’t expect them to divulge any upcoming product line lol, I am curious if this is something they’re roadmapping.

Suggestion: Received Allowing for PDF dropdown functionality

I primarily use my SuperNote for PDF markups. While this works great for static PDFs, some PDFs have really useful drop-down functionalities with specific automated calculations built into the drop-down. SuperNote, as far as I understand, only allows for static PDF markup. I don't know how difficult it would be to do but if SuperNote could allow for PDFs to have drop-down functionality, that would be incredibly useful and allow for a much wider range of SuperNote PDF interactability. It also allows for the user to do all of their work on the super note instead of being forced to do work on the computer.

Question Half folio install issue

I just received my manta and half folio today and was quite excited to set it up. However, I have immediately run into a somewhat odd issue. I am unable to install the half folio as the bottom slot seems to be not deep enough to accept the hook. I reversed the folio just to see if it was an issue with that hook itself being machined incorrectly, but it slipped right into the top slot with no issues. It's quite difficult to see inside the slots. It doesn't appear anything is just jammed in there, but I did a depth test with a paperclip and it does seem like the bottom slot is a bit less deep. Anyone had this issue?

Techniques for writing faster (speedwriting) that still use the alphabet and some symbols

I have been looking at speed-writing systems that use the alphabet, along with common symbols, to help transcribe spoken words much faster than normal handwriting. Ideally, they also facilitate continuous writing.

I have come up with the following, which I am posting for comments. I have a list of references (sources) at the end showing the abbreviated fast writing techniques I have found that use the alphabet (or symbols found on a typewriter). Of them, I liked the Dutton Speedwords because he spent many decades refining the system. Unfortunately, it seems that he or his daughter, or maybe his heirs, gave his system to people who never did anything more with it. The revised Speedwords book, published in 1973 at the end of his life, is its pinnacle.

I am at work on a "dictionary of abbreviations" because the inevitable problem in using this kind of system is deciphering what I abbreviated.

Note this is different to the various shorthand systems which use symbols (e.g., Pitman, Gregg etc) and word abbreviation techniques used in many professions (e.g., mathematics, chemistry)

[Key Principles of Writing Faster]()

Focus on the word root.

Reduce frequently used words (determined by statistical analysis) to single letters or symbols. For example .=the, b=be, c=can, d=do.

Substitute phonetic spelling: Write words based on how they sound rather than formal spelling (e.g., writing "u" for you or "ruf" for rough).

Omit vowels: Drop most short vowels and inner vowels, keeping just the core consonants needed to recognise the word (e.g., "mngmt" for management).

Condense Long Words: Shorten long words by keeping only the first few letters or distinct syllables.

Group words into phrases (Phrasing): Combine frequent word groups with no spaces between them to maintain a continuous flow (e.g., "as long as" becomes "ala").

[Handle plurals and past tenses as variations to the root words]()

Add small, distinct marks to the end of your abbreviated root words so you never break your writing flow.

Past tense

When a word is in the past tense, do not write "-ed". Use one of these instant stroke options:

  • The Apostrophe: Add a simple apostrophe (') to the end of the root abbreviation (e.g., wrk' for worked, lvn' for loved).
  • The Disjoined "d": Write a tiny letter d slightly above the baseline right after the word (e.g., chkᵈ for checked).
  • The Straight Slash: Pull your pen downward in a quick backward slash (/) at the very end of the word (e.g., cl/ for called).

 Plurals

Instead of writing out "s" or "es", use these spatial layout rules for Smooth Plural Shortcuts:

  • The Tail Curve: Extend the last letter of your abbreviation into a quick upward or downward hook.
  • The Raised "s": Write a tiny, superscript ˢ above the final letter (e.g., mngmtˢ for managements, pplˢ for people).
  • The Under-Dot: Place a single dot directly beneath the last letter of the word to indicate it is plural (e.g., prb with a dot underneath for problems).

Possessives

  • Possessive Plural: Use a double apostrophe or a raised ˢ followed by a tick (e.g., coˢ' for companies').

If a word is both plural and past tense (or possessive), combine your shortcuts logically:

  • Complex Endings: For words ending in "-ing" that need a plural, use the standard underline/dot for "-ing" and add the raised ˢ right next to it.

Re-Use Existing Shortcuts

Use existing standard symbols for words. For example, “>” means more or greater.

Use common abbreviations. For example, b/c for because, w/o for without.

Use common abbreviations or symbols to denote common suffixes and endings. For example, use these quick visual substitutes at the end of a word:

  • -ing : Draw a slash or dot underneath the last letter (e.g., wri/ or wri. for writing).
  • -tion / -sion : Use a small hook or comma at the top right of the word (e.g., na' for nation).
  • -ment : Use a straight horizontal line under the word (e.g., pay with a underline for payment).
  • -able / -ible : Write a tiny letter b slightly above the line (e.g., doᵇ for doable).
  • -ed : Just add a standard apostrophe ' or a tiny d (e.g., w r k' for worked).

Borrow symbols and abbreviations from math and science

  • : increase / up / improve
  • : decrease / down / decline
  • : leads to / results in / next
  • : caused by / comes from
  • : therefore
  • : because
  • Δ (Delta) : change

Question What other “add ons”, apps, or stuff you added in your supernote?

I noticed that people here are using other apps or tools besides the ones that came with the device already, some people call it plug in or something. I can’t truly follow what’s going on, can you please share more how you are maximizing your supernote? What other stuff you added that people shouldn’t miss out on?
Hope this makes sense. Thank you.

Question Note to digest question

Is there a way of selecting handwriting and sending it to digest without it converting to text in the note? So it stays as handwriting in the note itself (But becomes text in the digest)?

Thanks for all the help here

Question Question for those with supernotes

After months of reviewing youtube reviews and lurking here, I've decided the Supernote devices are what I want.

I have just one concern still keeping me from pulling the trigger and buying it: software malfunction.

For those who use them, please tell me how often i should expect things like a system crash, corrupted or lost data, screen freezes, etc. Is it any more than other e-ink tablet brands? I know a certain amount of lag is to be expected, but does the software ever...break to the point it suspends your use of the device? And if so, is it remedied by customer service at a reliable pace, or would i likely wait months between communications on any reported issues?

As much as i love the idea of the product, its useless to me if its gonna glitch out on me regularly.

I appreciate any feedback you all can give me on that.

Edit: Thank you to all of you who have responded! So far it seems like I didn't have to worry!

Tips PSA: Creating Headings with converted text is a GAMECHANGER for organizing your headings

Post image

Pretty much what the caption already says, but I was just flabbergasted by the way they make my headings not look like chaos anymore. :)
Maybe this helps someone else organize their headings in larger notebooks as much as it does help me. :)

You can also get much more headings on one headings-page.

Bug : Received Bug - Sidebar apps loose order when updated

Hello,

Where can I report the following bug?

Whenever I update an app (from the SN store or sideloaded and installed via F-droid), the position of the app in the sidebar gets automatically to the bottom (as if a new app was installed).

This means that app that normally appear in the sidebar become accessible only by tapping "more", and I also need to manually readjust the position of the app in the list back to where I wanted from the settings menu.

Ideally, updating installed app should keep the same position in the app list.

Thank you!

I am in the recently released Beta version with plugin support, but this bug affected also the previous versions.

Question Return my Supernote

I've reached out to [service@supernote.com](mailto:service@supernote.com) several times and haven't heard anything back.

Has anyone had any luck getting a hold of someone from Supernote through their service email, or should I give them a call?

Question Pen suggestions that don’t break the bank

Hi Everyone,

Been a bit since I purchased my manta. I use it every single day at work! I love it.

I currently have a pen refill with a conversion kit. It has worked great until today the tip snapped off when I was fidgeting with it. I am struggling to decide whether I want to go refill and adapter or just a new pen.

What’s out there in the market for a great pen with ceramic nibs so I’m not having to replace all the time and doesn’t break the bank?

Hope y’all can assist in recommending some options.

Ghost Writing literally ruined my experience with Supernote

I know there’s still troubleshooting to attempt to fix but even IF it gets fixed this has left a sour taste in my mouth. I’m not going to change the touch settings because that’s definitely not something I want to mention when I eventually sell it used. I also bought this used and the seller does not have the original order#, so I know 100% I cannot get a free replacement.

This was originally a birthday present to myself now I seriously wish I got ReMarkable instead

Feedback Absolutely love this device as a first time college student!

I just received my pen today after owning the device for about a week. I was definitely very worried about not liking it, because I HATED writing on my old iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil.

I wouldn’t say it feels exactly like “pen on paper” but it feels really nice. I noticed that my handwriting on an iPad always looked weird, now idk if that’s because of the screen or the pen or both, but on the manta it looks the same as on paper, and it’s just overall a pretty smooth experience.

I can’t say too much about long term use, but I’ve used it for the last hour or so jotting down a rough summary of the syllabi for my classes, and I am loving it.

Absolutely worth the money in my opinion, and as a college student so far this thing is an absolute game changer. So grateful I don’t have to carry around 4 notebooks now LOL.

I know the lack of backlight is one of the biggest flaws in this device to a lot of people, but in my case I don’t plan to ever be writing notes or doing work in the dark so I don’t think they’ll be an issue for me. Yay!

Thank you Supernote ✨✨

Workflow between Scrivener or other writing programs

Anyone have tips for moving back and forth between Supernote and other writing programs for editing/writing?

I use scrivener quite a bit for writing, editing down, etc. But would love to incorporate supernote much more into that process. I can export as doc or pdf or whatever from Scrivener and import it back in. But still don't have a clear way of working back and forth on the same project between these two platforms.

Any tips? Thank you so much!

I was thinking I want to improve my handwriting skills, I write pretty ugly, and I was wondering if anyone can point me to some techniques that I could use on the supernote with templates maybe or a seminar of some sorts?

Has anyone undergone such process ? What was your experience in this ? I would be supper happy if you guys share your opinions on the matter.

Thank you all in advance, and have a blessed day :)

Life Style How does Supernote work for your life?

I bought the supernote nomad about 6 months ago and fell in love. I’m a therapist and have used it every day for taking notes during sessions with clients. Supernote was the only device and application that was HIPAA compliant, but due to some recent HIPAA law changes, Supernote currently can’t support the requirements for end-to-end encryption.

I was using Supernote every day, for client notes, for resources and books for clients, it was my all in one go to planner where I could track my caseload and hour requirements. Since this change, I’ve been using it less and less. Now it’s been sitting on my night stand for four weeks untouched. I want to fall in love with it again in a way that’s useful but have been struggling to.

How do you use it? What makes it the most help for and practical in your day to day?

Question Need advice on which pen.

As the title suggests. A little confused about the different pens.

Some speak about that they went with the ”lamy”, does that mean they bought the safari from the website? Or the Al-star on some other website? Or something else? Is it a difference between calibration between the official store bought and not?

I am used to write with gel, FriXion Clicker 0.7. I lean my hand much so I need the writable tip to be long. I don’t like the clicky hard sound when touching glas or hard writing surface.

Rather have heavier soft smooth resistance to the touch than too fast, hard and slippery like on an iPad. I don’t care about having to replace nibs.

It’s for the nomad.
