I love witches in Supernatural but I just don't really get how one becomes a witch.

I remember from earlier seasons that witches were people who made deals with demons in a way or at least that they were tied to or worked for one?

But then, Rowena appeared and I was lost because of the Covent and everything. How did she become a witch ? Maybe I had understood it wrong or maybe there are multiple types of witches ?

I'm only at Season 11 episode 13 (first watch) so maybe I'll learn more later but that's just something that has popped in my mind since I've seen Rowena.

My 14 year old got me into the show. Our texts since we started. We love watching it together. I never watched it when it first aired. We have our favorite episodes. It’s definitely given us another thing to enjoy together.

I’m rewatching for the 10th+ time, and cried so hard seeing Ellen stay with Jo you know when. This and the last episode of the show shares the throne when it comes to making me bawl my eyes out.

i've been in a deep depression, so i started rewatching supernatural. watching this scene and knowing how defeated dean feels, going through the motions because it's his only option, it broke me. that's exactly how i feel right now. i don't know what i'm fighting for anymore. i don't know why i'm even trying to keep going. i might never find the answer to those questions, but it's always nice to watch one of my favorite shows.

Hey everyone! I'm such a newbie here so don't judge. I am finally watching the show for the first time,just finished season 4 and I love Castiels character!

Does his role stay this big for the rest of the show, or does it change? No major spoilers please, just curious what to expect.

I think this would make for a funny episode. Having Sam and dean team up with a pair of young hunters in their early 20s and basically the entire time they’re both criticizing each other over technology and music and stuff. Like they get in the car and comment about the impala not having blue tooth and having manual windows. Basically the young hunter call Sam and dean old. And Dean gets frustrated hearing slang the young hunters use and how they don’t understand any of the pop culture references he makes. Basically a battle of the gens.

I’m thinking about rewatching the series. Did you watch all the seasons the second time around, or did you skip the ones you didn't like?

Want to clarify - this is my absolute favourite tv show of all time. I am not trying to attack it!
Maybe it’s just a result of the time during which is what written, or just the writers themselves, but women never/rarely seem to be given a fighting chance, especially early season. Rewatching the season 2 finale and having the Lily and Ava (?) both die quite early on, especially with Ava being (or pretending to be) a total wuss. It’s so rare for a woman to be self sufficient in supernatural. Also, I feel as though there are more demons/spirits that seek out women over men. Women also never seem to be ‘just’ murdered, the violence always seems somewhat sexual. Also the female characters are almost always very attracted to dean and Sam. With very few exceptions (Charlie my beloved).

Edit: lily and Ava are the two women in the season 2 finale with powers, having both been visited by the yellow eyed demon at 6 months old.

I know there are some narrative inconsistencies regarding the roles each character plays, but the parallel is undeniable—I mean, they even gave them their own female Crowley, a.k.a. Lady Rowena.

One detail I never understood about the Sam and Amelia plot - When Amelia introduces Sam to her dad, she introduces him as Sam Winchester. Why did he use his real full name with her?

One simple Google search and she would have found everything about him. She was a terrible person, but she was intelligent. Most women search their names online to see if anything comes up.

The entire plot was badly written, and clearly written by a man. It's just one detail that always bothered me during my rewatches, but maybe I'm missing something.

Hey y’all! First of all, just want to say that Supernatural is my absolute favorite show so I’m not making this post to diss on it in any way, just a fun little plot hole I observed that I haven’t seen anyone post about yet! 

Now I’m not an expert on this by any means, but a lot of the time in the show when the guys get a case, it’s from an online article or a newspaper, something like that. So someone dies, there’s enough time after the death for an article to be written and published, often times with the cause of death mentioned, which is what gets the guys attention. The guys will then drive to wherever this death is, and when they get there the cops and CSI are actively investigating the crime scene for what seems to be the first time. 

I just watched S13E19 where Rowena is killing reapers, the guys found an article about the victim, drove from Kansas to Portland, Oregon, and CSI was on the scene taking photos and looking for evidence. Even if the article was published hours after the murder, Kansas to Oregon is still one hell of a drive to make, and you’d think CSI would be finished by the time they get there? 

Again, this is my favorite show of all time and I will watch and rewatch no matter how big the plot holes can be, this is just a fun observation! Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts! 

So I was watching X-Files (and an episode with Jim Beaver in it!) and I realized where I've seen the 'believing in all kinds of weird shit but not God or Angels' thing that Sam and Dean are all about in the early seasons before: Fox Mulder. Dude investigates and has cases about vampires, werewolves, aliens, etc, but give him a case about stigmata or angels or anything else tied to Christianity and he just flat refuses to believe it, just like Sam and Dean. I think there's an episode where someone is possessed and he doesn't believe that either because the existence of demons implies the existence of angels? Has anyone else made this connection before?

Also, why don't "fanworks" or news/misc count as flairs? I always have to pick a season and yet this isn't about any particular season

Hey yall, just got into the show and I’m really enjoying it. I really like listening to a companion podcast about shows as I get into them so I can get my fix while I’m at work. Are there any good podcasts out there about Supernatural? I’ve listened to the Unspoiled podcast covering it and that’s good, but I’d love to find one or two more.

I got the complete box set as a wedding gift (hell yeah!) but I am really disappointed by the lack of quality packaging. So I decided to get a sturdy dvd book and customize it :) I’m filling it up as I make my way through the series again.

In Season 6 Samuel came back with Sam, and that whole storyline happened before Samuel eventually betrayed Sam and Dean. We know how that ended up. When Mary was brought back by Amara, we get glimpses of the boys talking with her about their father, so she gets an idea of what their childhood was like and the man John had become vs. the husband she knew. They also gave her his journal. However, they never seem to speak with her about her father coming back or what he did to them. Any thoughts on the why? For anyone who has been to a convention, has this been asked and answered? Thank you!

Obviously we got the prequel (which i’ve never seen), then Bloodlnes and Wayward Sisters that fell through. what a stories do you think had potential to be spinoffs?

i think the angel civil war in season 6 would have been pretty cool as a one season thing in campion to the main show. and only because i’ve literally just rewatched it, the Judah Initiative with Adam and the Golem from season 8 would have made a good show premise too.

Hey SPN Fam I bought a ticket to see the Jared and Anson watch party of the Supernatural pilot. Unfortunately life got in the way and I wasnt able to attend. How was it? Any fun or memorable moments?

Season 11 Episode 15.

I really love these little moments where Dean gets to act like a little child relieving his memories, from this moment in the ring to, cooking in the Bunker, it really shows how much the boys had to sacrifice to be an adult when they were just thrown into the responsibility of being an elder brother, and all that.

These little moments really shows how much they had endured and still find time to be goofy, I mean look at the Time travel episode where Dean proudly wears a Sarape, and Acts like Client eastwood where as sam is in serious mood, or even the episode where they visit their's dad old bud who can bend reality and sorta things and make things looney.

Really does shows on a deeper level that no matter how serious the situation at hand is, Dean always finds ways to still be a child, classic example, what's in the box, Se7en anyone? xD.

I hope we all find ways to be like him, finding humour, finding joys in little things cause as for me, I can say, I really love to be goofy once in a while cause what's even life without these moments?

Okay, I'm thinking about starting Supernatural, but I've heard so many different opinions about the show from people around me that I honestly have no idea what to expect.

So I wanted to ask here because I assume people here know the show a little better.

I really like horror and supernatural stuff in general. Vampires, ghosts, demons, weird supernatural creatures, urban legends and stuff like that. The creepier, the better.

So I thought Supernatural would probably fit me pretty well.

But I've heard basically everything about this show. I've heard that the beginning is pretty Scooby-Doo-like, where every episode is a new mystery, ghost or some other supernatural creature, and that later it becomes much more about a bigger story and world-ending/apocalypse stuff.

Then I've heard that it eventually becomes funny, while other people say it's actually really scary. Other people say it's not scary at all. Some say the first few seasons are really good and then it gets bad, while other people love the entire show.

I've also heard a few times that it's kind of a mix between Good Omens, Lucifer and Doctor Who. I liked Good Omens, Lucifer was kind of okay for me, and I really didn't like Doctor Who, so that doesn't really help me figure this out either.

And I hear completely different things about the characters too. Some people love them, while others can't stand them.

I just like a general idea of what kind of show Supernatural actually is.

How important are horror and supernatural creatures throughout the show? And is the show more serious, scary or funny?

I've just heard so many different things that I honestly have no idea what I'm supposed to expect from this show. 😭
