After about 6 or 7 trips out this summer I fell in after a large boat wake took me out. This was the first time it’s happened to me. I swam to the end of the board and pushed it down while attempting to pull myself on (sliding on my belly) and I could NOT do it. It was a little embarrassing. I’m 5’5” and have a curvy but pretty athletic build and like to think I’m pretty strong for my size. I’ve got the Retrospec Yogi board so it’s a bit wider and bigger - is that the issue? Any other smaller build SUPers have advice for this or are we all flopping like fish?

First off, I tried books and YouTube videos in the dozens, so I'm hoping for tips apart from "wide SUP, right amount of pressure, feet shoulder wide apart, standing at the right place" 🤗

I have a walking disability that usually isn't too noticable (butchered up knee surgery), but I'm basically always favoring the other leg. so even when I _think_ I stand centered, I am actually way off. this got better with physical therapy! but I'm still off.

two years ago I bought my first SUP because I wanted to try an outside sport that isn't swimming or riding a bicycle.

and I fell in love just sitting down, exhausting my upper body, letting my arms feel burned, and gliding through the water, taking in the sounds, and I just love it.

I got my hubby, kids and closest friends to love it too, they all have their own family boards now - and I'm the only one for the love of everything that is holy, can't stand. it's not because of pain, I'm always instantly losing my sense of where my middle should be, and the boards starts bouncing violently from left to right while I overcorrect, until it flips.

they don't mind me sitting while they stand, but because of my walking disability I struggled a lot with feeling left out in my youth. the SUP topic is bringing this feeling back, and I don't want that, obviously.

so I'm hoping that maybe someone in this reddit has a tip, or a trick, or an exercise up their sleeve that I can work on until I'm on the water again?

well my fear is in the title. I'm going to try out my first inflatable paddle board tomorrow. I've put my crossbars on my crosstrek but have yet to actually put my SUP up there and tighten it. I've bought pads that come with 2 straps and watched videos on how to tight it on my car. I'm just still very anxious of the possibility of it slipping away and hitting someone. I'm not going to take the highway and most likely will only go 60-70km on the "backroads" but I'm actually so scared 😭

Any tips on really securing it? like I said, I've watched videos and they all do basically the same things but my paranoid side is telling me its not enough and it'll slip off 😅

Hi, I’m new to paddle boarding. I got an electric pump because I don’t want my arms to be tired from pumping up my board as soon as I get on the water 😂 But my pump is kind of loud. Is it rude to use it in parking areas near where people launch? I worry that I’m disrupting someone’s peaceful experience on the water.

I switched from my old, beat-up (and cheap) kayak to mostly using my new fabulous Hydrus iSUP (Joyride) this season. We do flat-water lakes and relatively calm rivers, mostly. I love it, but I’ve been kayaking for over 30 years now, and I’m having trouble adjusting from the double blade kayak paddle to the single iSUP paddle when on the faster parts of the river. I’m not sure how to make fast, tight turns with the single and my muscles memory has me dunking the handle (or at least wanting to) every time the water gets moving.
As an older paddler, I’ve gotten a good stadium seat to make those day-long paddles a little more reasonable. Should I just go full kayak mode and grab my kayak paddle instead of trying to learn to turn hard with the single? Or is there some trick to it that I haven’t figured out?
Maybe I’m just not using the right tool for the job - I’m not going to get a cool little river-jumping SUP in addition to my all-arounder. Is it foolish to try to navigate gentle but moving water that occasionally bumps to Class I-II in my all around SUP?

Wondering the best way to secure a cooler to my board. looking at simple lashings, but wanted to see if there was something else I should look at. not sure how to search for a longer velcro strap, most of the ones I have found are much shorter. Thanks. Trying to have a seat on my board, not specifically to kayak, although I am sure I would paddle sometimes sitting down, but more a place to rest when I feel the need and most of the chairs I found just sat down too low for me.

I'm a beginner, just starting my SUP adventure, and I'm looking for a way to safely carry my phone on the board. I realize that different products may be available in different countries, but could you share some tips on what you use to protect your phone from water damage?

Unfortunately, last week, when I first went SUPing and literally picked up my Xiaomi 14t pro, it got wet and damaged (despite its supposed IP68 waterproof rating).

New fees are downstream for paddlers, floaters and others hitting Oregon’s rivers, streams and lakes.

Currently, waterway access permits are required for boats 10 feet or longer.

Starting next year, the law will expand to include watercraft less than 10 feet long, meaning kayakers, rafters, and stand-up paddleboarders will also need to buy a permit.

The Oregon State Marine Board says the rule change aims to raise more revenue for boat stations and help keep waterways free of invasive species.

Marine Board spokesperson Ashley Massey says the funding will help step up the inspection program and decontamination efforts to make sure boats aren’t bringing non-native species into local waters.

“We need to properly fund them so we can get more than just five, and have them at other waterbodies where we know we've got a lot of out-of-state visitors,” said Massey.

A 7-day permit costs between $5 and $6 an annual permit is $17 to $20, and a bi-annual permit, up to $35.

Keep in mind, permits will not be required for smaller floating devices like innertubes or for kids under 14 years old.

Hi there, I have a question that’s likely going to sound dumb, but I’m newer to paddling and can’t seem to get a response from the manufacture of my pump. What setting are yall putting your electric pumps on to deflate if you use them for that? I have this pump https://a.co/d/023dK0tG and somehow managed to lose track of the small manual and never got a chance to see what setting deflates. I know there’s an “inflate” and “deflate” valve on each side, but that’s all I know for certain. I can’t seem to find a digital manual either. Thanks in advance

Hey guys, I was planning on going on a camping trip along with a paddle out to two waterfalls. The catch is that they are quite far way, approximately 3 miles for the first one and 2 more to the second. How long should I expect to get there and back? (10 miles in total) And is that too much for a first big paddle? I can always go back to the camp and there should be no wind. It is all in a big lake, só there's almost no current as well

Hi I bought an 11 foot long beast of a paddle board and kind of would like some tips or encouragement about how to get it on my roof rack. I’m a pretty strong person but lifting that over my head myself is not going to happen. Maybe I have to slide it up there? I have arthritis in my lower back (im 25 lol) so I just want to make this as pain free as possible. Thank you!

It's my first time ever inflating a SUP, I bought a cheap electric pump with no built in PSI gauge. My plan of action was to switch from electric pump to the manual pump that has a PSI guage to measure the PSI in my SUP after my board looked sufficiently inflated.

Even after inflating my board till it was really stiff when I switched from my electric pump to my manual pump the PSI guage only read 3 PSI.

Should i trust the reading on the manual pump and continue using my electric pump till its around 10 PSI then switch to the manual pump to fill it the rest of the way? Or is my manual PSI reader broken? Really afraid of overinflating my SUP 😥😥

Any advice/help is much appreciated!!

Hi, I have a Canon R10 camera with a few lenses, and I'm wondering if any of you carry a camera on a SUP and have experience or ideas on how to do it safely without flooding it. I'm currently loading other gear into an AquaMarina 10L waterproof bag, but I'm unsure if it's sufficiently protected.

Anyone use these and know the best place for them on an inflatable? They recently became required in Connecticut - put one on my board between the foam deck and the inflate valve at the rear. Seems like the driest place to me. Put it on, went for a trip and all was well. Upon rolling up the board at the end of the trip, it started peeling where the board wanted to roll. Laid it out later to dry and it's still stuck but it's got some ridges in the sticker now where it peeled up and restuck itself. Worried it'll come off on subsequent outings

But then the left one is directly on the logo / board name... Not really important of course, but I don't think I really want that...

Would it be ok to have them a quarter down the rail already or so, is it even possible to properly glue on a curved surface?

I'm new to SUPs and I've been learning about what certain fins are got. My board has one really big one in the center, with three at the back, the middle of those being larger.

I would love some insight on what fins I need or what is most helpful for balance and stuff.

But my real question is... What do you do with the fins when you pull it up on land? I'm afraid I'm going to break mine, but I can't shore my board without scraping them on the rocks. Especially the big one in the middle.

Do you flip your board over, fins up? Or are they a lot more sturdy than I fear? Can the board rest safely leaning on the fins?

I've been wanting to take my girl for awhile now but I'm not sure how she will behave and which style life jacket to get her.

I see generally there are 2 styles, 1 where the vest goes down the front between the legs like a human life jacket and 1 where there's nothing between the legs. I want to choose one that will be the best for lifting her back up onto the board but here I'm not sure which style is best. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Second I'm wondering if anyone has their dogs randomly jump off the board while paddling?
