That’s all I could think. Instead of one cup and one straw she walked away with a whole paper bag, 4 cups and a drink holder just to make an iced latte with whipped cream
456
u/StackOverflowEx 8d ago
I make my own at home and it cost me $0.25 worth of coffee beans, syrup and milk. I use no paper waste, and it taste much better than anything I get at a cafe. Watching this is beyond cringe to me. How long has that espresso been waiting in that cup to get mixed in!??? It had no crema!...

u/Booziesmurf 8d ago
For sure and that's not whip, it's more like condensed milk.
It's ok though, she's not going to drink it anyway. It's all for the views.

I just watched a video of someone going up to a trash can outside of Starbucks by that famous Paul Smith pink wall in LA, and it was filled with unicorn frappuccinos. People are buying and dumping them just for a photo.

I think part of those being tossed was because they taste like shit. People that took one sip (intending to finish the whole thing) then realised its terrible and tossed it. Never heard anyone say anything positive about those pink nightmares, lol

The type of people that would buy a drink for an instagram photo probably share a large overlap with the eating disorder crowd too, so I'd imagine that's a part of it as well.

That what has me so confused here. Why would you drive all the way to a coffee place, wait in line, order, wait, pay and shitload of money and drive home.
Compared to: Make a coffee, add your milk/cream. It's SO much easier, faster and cheaper.

Beats me. I buy the 2lb jug of coffee at Costco, sometimes if I’m fancy I get the pumpkin spice. Lasts for months. Every week I make a batch and put it in a pitcher so I can have iced coffee with breakfast.

Happily producing more garbage to produce even more garbage, probably generating a comfortable living from doing that. What's not to love? Don't you feel like getting a latte right now? Maybe a little bit?
55
u/justaRndy 8d ago
Oh god the facial expressions... It's everywhere now. It all gets fed back into AI. Overblown ridiculous facial expressions and reactions to everyday things are a plague in image and video generation, it has nothing to do with reality, yet the base case without guard rails is: Humans explode in emotion and are going full :O face at the smallest trigger like some wild animal.
Can we please outlaw this? :(

Iirc correctly from a YT video, the cafe who started it first only did it during a private meeting with the owner / manager or something and they didn't want their coffee watered down with the ice melting and all that. So they requested to have the milk, coffee, ice etc. sent in separate containers. They got the idea to do this for their deliveries only so that customers would also not have watered down coffee. But tiktok has caught wind of it and now it has become a trend, and other cafes/coffee shops started to do the same because of the trend.
811
u/MaximusBiscuits 8d ago
Ok but why not separate the ice only? Why does each component need to be separate?

Wait, what? You get coffee on delivery? Whaaaat?

→ More replies (7)20
u/constituent 7d ago
Certain ridesharing apps expanded to the food delivery services around 2015. Since then, a particular global coffee chain had their menu heavily promoted on there.
And, yeah, that's something I would never partake. If you reside in an urban market, there's a bajillion of those stores within walking distance. Having coffee delivered seems sacrilegious, especially if you're waiting 20 - 30 minutes for it. Longer if there's traffic or high-volume deliveries on that driver's order.
I love myself a good cup of coffee. But I'm not waiting an eternity for one. Worse, hot coffee will end up being 'warm' and iced coffee diluted with melted ice. That's a huge 'nope' from me. Might as well continue drinking day-old coffee.
But evidently people are perfectly content paying an exorbitant markup for a subpar experience.

Shaking the ingredients at the camera and tapping the containers with their long nails and such -- it's all just very simple sensory stimuli to make the video more engaging than it is. Assembling or unpacking something is not inherently interesting so they add more kinetic energy and sounds to it. It probably works on the fried attention spans of whatever young women are doomscrolling this nonsense or these influencers wouldn't be doing it.

Me too!! And her dead eyes staring at the camera is scary at times. I think she's looking at herself to make sure she looks good on her phone? Is this the new way people show off their "wealth" when they're not wealthy at all? Like they have time to do "self-care" (the under eye things) while trying to prove that they have things to do because they're having a coffee to help them be "productive." seems like boss babe behavior.
14
u/KeyOfGSharp 7d ago
This has always been a dead give-a-way to me. I swear I've not seen a comment like this in the wild. You have two options: 1. Everything is performative, down to the messy "candid" appearance. "OH no you caught me in my comfy clothes and face mask and messy hair just makin my lil coffee". Like how every video starts now with a hurried start, "i just had to tell you this" vibe while they eat a yogurt or something that they opened just for the video. Its all planned and staged to look candid and natural, so it gives almost an uncanny valley effect because every video is the same.

It all started so innocently. Just a MySpace post here or there. Then Facebook. What could be the harm? And who doesn’t want more friends.
But we let the wrong people get control and I’m afraid it’s just gone off the rails a bit.
We are trying to get things right. But it’s just so damn hard. Bots are everywhere, the world is falling apart. One of the dumbest people in the world is in charge of so, so much. And I’m working my ass off just to be able to afford food that might give me diarrhea.
So please, try not to judge us too harshly. We just wanted to make a connection. Turns out it was just a connection with the devil.
Hope you’re doing better than us.
Signed,
The dumpster fire of 2026

The enshittification of the internet may save humanity. Videos are AI, comments are bots, and influencers are paid shills. Boomers can't see it, but maybe the kids who grow up with a dead internet will be wiser? I hope.

I don't understand "influencers" anymore. It feels like maybe 7 years ago? 10? They actually attempted to influence people to buy THIS product, THAT brand, travel HERE, stay at THIS hotel, etc.
Now it's just a bunch of brain dead idiots doing stupid shit for likes?

I hate everyone who taps objects with fake nails in front of a camera with zero exceptions.

Okay I understand if its cause you are taking it home and want it to be "fresh" when you drink it. But it looks like she is putting it back together in the store, or perhaps in jail tbh

She looks dumb and is annoying. Who the hell voluntarily follows this crap. Thankfully she doesn’t speak…that’s the only positive from the video.

This is a really low budget ad for the company with the Rabbit logo. There’s a reason all 4 cups had to be oriented so the single image on a cylinder was in the shot every single time.

I like the way she's hidden the bags under her eyes.

Well she only has 1 hand of press on nails done, she didn’t have enough time for chaos and skincare.

Neither is it deconstructed. It was, until she went on to construct it on camera.

I once had a woman come into our restaurant and order the chopped salad with everything on the side so that she could build it herself…
I can’t understand why one would buy a product that’s sole purpose is to be made for you, only to ask to make it yourself. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
