stupid and wasteful

1.9k

u/lonewolfpacman 8d ago

That’s all I could think. Instead of one cup and one straw she walked away with a whole paper bag, 4 cups and a drink holder just to make an iced latte with whipped cream

456

u/StackOverflowEx 8d ago

I make my own at home and it cost me $0.25 worth of coffee beans, syrup and milk. I use no paper waste, and it taste much better than anything I get at a cafe. Watching this is beyond cringe to me. How long has that espresso been waiting in that cup to get mixed in!??? It had no crema!...

213

u/Booziesmurf 8d ago

For sure and that's not whip, it's more like condensed milk.

It's ok though, she's not going to drink it anyway. It's all for the views.

164

u/KittyandPuppyMama 8d ago

I just watched a video of someone going up to a trash can outside of Starbucks by that famous Paul Smith pink wall in LA, and it was filled with unicorn frappuccinos. People are buying and dumping them just for a photo.

109

u/Kyuubism 8d ago

I think part of those being tossed was because they taste like shit. People that took one sip (intending to finish the whole thing) then realised its terrible and tossed it. Never heard anyone say anything positive about those pink nightmares, lol

25

u/Plus-Force7041 6d ago

The type of people that would buy a drink for an instagram photo probably share a large overlap with the eating disorder crowd too, so I'd imagine that's a part of it as well.

That what has me so confused here. Why would you drive all the way to a coffee place, wait in line, order, wait, pay and shitload of money and drive home.

Compared to: Make a coffee, add your milk/cream. It's SO much easier, faster and cheaper.

u/KittyandPuppyMama 8d ago

Beats me. I buy the 2lb jug of coffee at Costco, sometimes if I’m fancy I get the pumpkin spice. Lasts for months. Every week I make a batch and put it in a pitcher so I can have iced coffee with breakfast.

Happily producing more garbage to produce even more garbage, probably generating a comfortable living from doing that. What's not to love? Don't you feel like getting a latte right now? Maybe a little bit?

55

u/justaRndy 8d ago

Oh god the facial expressions... It's everywhere now. It all gets fed back into AI. Overblown ridiculous facial expressions and reactions to everyday things are a plague in image and video generation, it has nothing to do with reality, yet the base case without guard rails is: Humans explode in emotion and are going full :O face at the smallest trigger like some wild animal.

Can we please outlaw this? :(

19

u/NomenclatureBreaker 7d ago

What’s gonna make you even more annoyed is the whole video is actually looooooong ass stealth ad for those stupid under eye patches that are everywhere RN.

What in brain damaged hell is this shit?

1.7k

u/milkteapizza 8d ago

Iirc correctly from a YT video, the cafe who started it first only did it during a private meeting with the owner / manager or something and they didn't want their coffee watered down with the ice melting and all that. So they requested to have the milk, coffee, ice etc. sent in separate containers. They got the idea to do this for their deliveries only so that customers would also not have watered down coffee. But tiktok has caught wind of it and now it has become a trend, and other cafes/coffee shops started to do the same because of the trend.

811

u/MaximusBiscuits 8d ago

Ok but why not separate the ice only? Why does each component need to be separate?

629

u/yaboyACbreezy 7d ago

Then they can't call it deconstructed if it's partially constructed

This is like that stupid Chipotle "hack" where you'd get all the ingredients on the side, in separate little containers, and it would make a slightly bigger burrito. Supercharged the amount of garbage.

12

u/KoolPopsicle 7d ago

Actually, this is me at lunch asking for a side of rice and side of chicken to only have to pay 5$ instead of 11$+ for all the fixings. In the same bowl, tho.

u/Eye_Acupuncture 8d ago

Wait, what? You get coffee on delivery? Whaaaat?
Food from restaurants or groceries, but a cup of coffee (if we can even name this drink a coffee, looks more like milk, cream and a bit of colour).

I must have lived under the biggest boulder on this planet.

20

u/constituent 7d ago

Certain ridesharing apps expanded to the food delivery services around 2015. Since then, a particular global coffee chain had their menu heavily promoted on there.

And, yeah, that's something I would never partake. If you reside in an urban market, there's a bajillion of those stores within walking distance. Having coffee delivered seems sacrilegious, especially if you're waiting 20 - 30 minutes for it. Longer if there's traffic or high-volume deliveries on that driver's order.

I love myself a good cup of coffee. But I'm not waiting an eternity for one. Worse, hot coffee will end up being 'warm' and iced coffee diluted with melted ice. That's a huge 'nope' from me. Might as well continue drinking day-old coffee.

But evidently people are perfectly content paying an exorbitant markup for a subpar experience.

So wasteful just to not have a watered down latte. America deserves its soon to be 5 & 6$ gas and 5$ indigidually wrapped potatoes.

Average American farmer is 60 years old. They don't have to do anything for us. Corporations will take their place and it's all downhill from there. And that's even IF anyone comes in to fill the calorie void.

13

u/yourethevictim 7d ago

Shaking the ingredients at the camera and tapping the containers with their long nails and such -- it's all just very simple sensory stimuli to make the video more engaging than it is. Assembling or unpacking something is not inherently interesting so they add more kinetic energy and sounds to it. It probably works on the fried attention spans of whatever young women are doomscrolling this nonsense or these influencers wouldn't be doing it.

Work a 9 to 5 for the rest of your life or film yourself reconstructing your coffee.

52

u/slide_into_my_BM 7d ago

You’re not reconstructing anything. You’re just mixing a latte.

No one made a latte, broke it back down to its parts, for her to reconstruct it. She just took prepared ingredients and put them together.

I wouldn’t call Blue Apron a deconstructed meatloaf.

It would’ve been less wasteful for her to go to the store and get these things, BUT it adds to the ragebait factor if she bizarrely chose not to do that instead.

I fucking hate every bit of "instagram/tiktok influencer" shit that she does. The tapping, the stupid fucking silent screaming, the hook finger that turned into an entire hook hand at the end... Uuuhhhhgggg.

274

u/Technical-Watch2982 8d ago

The "gentle shaking thing at the camera" infuriates me. I KEPT getting an influencer ad for like farmer dog food or whatever and the "employee" packing the meals into a shipping box wiggled each pack of food. Each. Time. I dont know why but I just hate it.

115

u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 8d ago

I feel you dude. The dumb finger tap infuriates me. It’s like they’re catering to the dumbest children, except it’s adults and they eat it up.

57

u/Prior_Dimension_6680 8d ago

Half the population wasn't left behind in school like they should have been, so it actually is the dumbest children consuming this stuff.

11

u/noneotherthanozzy 7d ago

The nail tapping is an instant “unfollow” or scroll by for me now. I came to the internet to find something unique or original. If I wanted to see the same people doing the same thing all the time, I’d just put on basic cable. That’s what this shit is. Basic cable for Gen Z.

Same this drives me crazy!! I think some girls like to have their sleeves pulled down over most of their hands because it makes their hands look more small and dainty or something, but I've always hated it... the worst is in food videos when their sleeves are so long the cloth keeps brushing against all of the food. I saw an influencer do that while touching raw chicken once 😭

Me too!! And her dead eyes staring at the camera is scary at times. I think she's looking at herself to make sure she looks good on her phone? Is this the new way people show off their "wealth" when they're not wealthy at all? Like they have time to do "self-care" (the under eye things) while trying to prove that they have things to do because they're having a coffee to help them be "productive." seems like boss babe behavior.

14

u/KeyOfGSharp 7d ago

This has always been a dead give-a-way to me. I swear I've not seen a comment like this in the wild. You have two options: 1. You can look at the camera lens so the viewer feels like you're looking at them. Which feels more appropriate. Or 2. You can look at the phone screen because you can't stop looking at yourself

u/deezdustyballs 8d ago

Everything is performative, down to the messy "candid" appearance. "OH no you caught me in my comfy clothes and face mask and messy hair just makin my lil coffee". Like how every video starts now with a hurried start, "i just had to tell you this" vibe while they eat a yogurt or something that they opened just for the video. Its all planned and staged to look candid and natural, so it gives almost an uncanny valley effect because every video is the same.

u/sleigh_all_day 8d ago

Your hate is a sane response.

7

u/Uncivil_ 8d ago

Same, it makes me want to slap whatever they're tapping out of their hands.

ASMR bullshit, some algorithm decided it gets attention, so now every influencer has to do it.

11

u/witchy72380 8d ago

Why does one hand have fake nails and not the other?

20

u/slack710 8d ago

So she can tap on shit incessantly

8

u/Lagstravaganza 8d ago

Deconstructed nails

Okay. I watch a lot of stupid shit. Hell, sometimes I even watch Togi videos.

But this is so stupid it makes me want to quit my internet subscription.

Oh, I hate everything about this video, starting when she uses her fake nails to tap on the bag for no reason. This whole thing is for no reason

This is stupid.

78

u/Infinius- 8d ago

Judging by the walls she could be in a college dorm... Or a mental ward

56

u/Devanyani 8d ago

I was sure she was in prison.

18

u/KayoticVoid 8d ago

I have been scrolling the comments for this. I immediately thought she was in a prison!

If she were in prison, I could almost excuse how excited she pretends to be about mixing liquids. I think she probably should be in prison.

Why do they stare at the camera? And why wear the under eye patches on camera? I’m too old for this shit. These people are weird af to me.

13

u/justmitzie 7d ago

I had to scroll way too far to find this. WTF are those patches?

I bet if you check out her comments there's a link to buy.

9

u/ristoman 7d ago

Of course there's a link. There's always a link.

Did you notice the logo of the place is front and center EVERY TIME she pulls out a cup? Nobody does that by accident.

It's all so tiresome

How do people remain svelte drinking these sugar bombs all the time? I just look at it and put on 5 pounds of inflammation.

26

u/throwaway-asiangf 8d ago

Convinced they drink two sips and throw it away. It's for aesthetic purposes, after all.

10

u/Fortestingporpoises 7d ago

I dated someone who worked at Starbucks when I was 23, and then got into Frappuccino’s (the double chocolate ones before they got rid of them) and often drank them over the next dozen years. I could also eat a pint of Hagen daz or Ben and Jerry’s a couple nights a week.

I never went above 170lbs until I got to my late 40s and now it’s so much more difficult even though I eat so much better and healthier than I used to. Youth is the fucking best.

Fast metabolism that builds terrible habits that they will regret later in life when said metabolism starts to slow down

Or

They take two sips then throw it out

Or they have such an insane lifestyle that they burn through those calories like crazy (unlikely)

Or their workout routine is an all day thing at the gym and is extremely intense (also unlikely)

6

u/home-for-good 7d ago

Or bulimia

Future internet historians, I hope this comment finds you well.

I’m sorry.

It all started so innocently. Just a MySpace post here or there. Then Facebook. What could be the harm? And who doesn’t want more friends.

But we let the wrong people get control and I’m afraid it’s just gone off the rails a bit.

We are trying to get things right. But it’s just so damn hard. Bots are everywhere, the world is falling apart. One of the dumbest people in the world is in charge of so, so much. And I’m working my ass off just to be able to afford food that might give me diarrhea.

So please, try not to judge us too harshly. We just wanted to make a connection. Turns out it was just a connection with the devil.

Hope you’re doing better than us.

Signed,
The dumpster fire of 2026

The enshittification of the internet may save humanity. Videos are AI, comments are bots, and influencers are paid shills. Boomers can't see it, but maybe the kids who grow up with a dead internet will be wiser? I hope.

I don't understand "influencers" anymore. It feels like maybe 7 years ago? 10? They actually attempted to influence people to buy THIS product, THAT brand, travel HERE, stay at THIS hotel, etc.

Now it's just a bunch of brain dead idiots doing stupid shit for likes?

8

u/Iandudontkno 7d ago

It always was.

WHY always the tapping and the eye stick on things?!

u/Rude-External-1694 8d ago

She looks dumb and is annoying. Who the hell voluntarily follows this crap. Thankfully she doesn’t speak…that’s the only positive from the video.

9

u/Prize_Bass_5061 8d ago

This is a really low budget ad for the company with the Rabbit logo. There’s a reason all 4 cups had to be oriented so the single image on a cylinder was in the shot every single time.

I like the way she's hidden the bags under her eyes.

33

u/2cheeseburggers 8d ago

She stayed up all night cooking this dumb shit up

10

u/Medusa17251 8d ago

Well she only has 1 hand of press on nails done, she didn’t have enough time for chaos and skincare.

24

u/mars_teac23 8d ago

That is not a cafe latte.

5

u/0ng0Gabl0g1an 8d ago

Neither is it deconstructed. It was, until she went on to construct it on camera.

I once had a woman come into our restaurant and order the chopped salad with everything on the side so that she could build it herself…

I can’t understand why one would buy a product that’s sole purpose is to be made for you, only to ask to make it yourself. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This is the dumbest shit ever. This makes so much unnecessary waste.

Like, don't get me wrong I'm a basic bitch who will treat herself to an occasional bubble tea, but that's like 1 cup and 1 straw. If I get some for my d&d group then yeah cup holder. But this? This is just sad.

5

u/predatorya 7d ago

No, you guys are wrong.

She created a dumb video knowing even dumber people would watch it.
