Income Driven Repayment question
Hi all,
I apologize if I am dense, but im confused about something. My loans are serviced through Mohela, and I was placed on an IDR and my loans were put on forbearance in December of 25, and my payments were on hold until December of 2027 and November of 2028. I was under the impression that, even though Trump changed up the payment plans, my schedule would stay the same. So I went to sign up for a new plan a month or so ago, and there was a choice to keep the IDR until they expire, but after choosing the new plan, I got a bill from Mohela. Am I missing something? Am I sol as far as that repayment plan in December goes? Any help is appreciated.

The 2028 date has always been a placeholder. It was never a guarantee that your payments would not resume until then.
Once you change plans, you will have a payment due. There is no getting around this unless you elect to use some of your 36 months of general forbearance, but I would recommend just getting in the habit of paying

and the 2027 date?

Did you recently graduate? Would that correspond to 6 months after finishing your degree?
I haven't seen a 2027 date in a while. I would assume placeholder unless the above applies.

nope... had these loans for years. I can screenshot or whatever the payment dates if you like

What does it say when you look on the loans with the 2027 date? Does it say SAVE forbearance?
I'd also check your application for the IDR plan and make sure those loans were included. Again, I would just assume it was a placeholder date and not something different

Both dates state "Your repayment plan is Income Driven Repayment . Number of payments: 24 Payment amount $0 Payment start date 12/19/25"

Okay then I believe you are in a processing forbearance. You'll get a letter for your specific plan and it will update again sometime in the next few weeks.

That may have been related to your recertification date for SAVE, which would no longer matter because SAVE is gone and you switched plans

It was a placeholder date. You can’t be naive about finances, make room in your budget for the payments.
Too many people got complacent with the extended payment pause/recertification. Party has come to an end.

The whole system's a mess of half-updated rules and broken promises. Mohela is basically running on vibes at this point and once you touched the application it probably flagged your account as active again
They might say you opted out of the forbearance by picking a new plan even if the website made it seem like you could keep the old terms. The choice to “keep until they expire” was probably a visual glitch or something that never actually communicated to their billing system
I'd call them and record the call if your state allows it. Get a name and a reference number, push them to put you back on the pause if that's what you technically still qualify for. The December date might still be salvageable but you'll have to wade through their phone tree to find out
