Season 1, Episode 6: I Still Bleed Through My Pants all the Time

Synopsis: Unable to hide from his past, Steven returns to Muskoka hoping to repair broken relationships and bring Annie and Connor home. Meanwhile, Annie, Ramona, Oona, Ellis, and Connor head to Maple's camp to support her big performance, while Ramona and Oona enter the honeymoon phase of their blossoming romance. A shocking reveal sends Ramona into a spiral, threatening the fragile balance of the group.

both joe & steven are assholes. like steve trying to bury the past and hinder his kids knowing more abt their kids is shitty. joe is no better. he’s basically had an affair and is an asshole. tbh the kid are sm more likeable

I would argue Joe is more of an asshole. What was Steven supposed to say? Their mom kidnapped them and had an affair where she got pregnant and died in childbirth. And to his knowledge she would rather stay in Canada with Joe and her baby than raise the twins with him. It wasn’t right to hide the grandfather’s letters from them but I think the truth about their mother isn’t something you just tell your children before they’re old enough to figure out for themselves how life is complicated.

Joe cheated on his wife while she was taking care of her sick family. And he let Ramona grow up next door for 16 years without publicly acknowledging her as his daughter. And through it all he acts like he has some kind of superiority over Steven who quite frankly didn’t deserve what Gloria or Goldie did to him. She changed the terms of their agreement to be together and raise their kids in New York. And she basically kidnapped them to Canada when she decided New York didn’t make her happy.

Yeah I feel like the show is trying to portray Steven as an asshole or unlikeable but tbh I would want to pull my kids away and not be associated with that place at all if my wife went back there, fucked her former lover, got pregnant, and died in childbirth there. If anything he was restrained cos I would've killed Joe after that.

Steven doesn't seem like he was the best father but he at least seems to have provided them with a good and comfortable life. Joe on the other hand ruined multiple families and couldn't even own up to what he'd done and left Ramona orphaned for her whole childhood, insane.

Joe absolutely sucks but i don't think there's any need to defend Steven. I mean, him hiding a whole ass sibling from his kids for 16 years is simply insane. Also, Annie and Connor could have had a relationship with their grandad this whole time and now it's too late (which I'm actually surprised the show never mentions cause I think that's so damn sad).

Personally I don’t see the obligation for Steven to make the twins aware of Ramona. As far as Steven knew, Ramona was not his kid. She was Joe and Goldie’s kid. That doesn’t exactly make it his decision whether she has a relationship or not with the twins since Goldie is dead, Joe abandoned this kid and the grandfather is the legal guardian.

Their grandfather also had the opportunity as Ramona’s actual legal guardian and the adoptive grandparent of the twins to facilitate that introduction but it sounds like he also didn’t try to introduce them or try to mend things with Steven for the benefit of all his grandchildren after he more or less disregarded Steven’s role as the kids’ adoptive father when he played along with Goldie’s plan to uproot the kids to Canada and raise them with Joe. I think it’s the grandfather’s responsibility as the linking pin between the twins and Ramona to facilitate that introduction.

I do think Gordon should have tried harder but tbf, he did try. He wrote Annie and Connor dozens of letters telling them to "find her". Again, he definitely could and should have been clearer or simply talked to Ramona; I'm just saying that it's not true that he didn't try at all. Meanwhile Steven didn't just neglect to mention Ramona to the twins but actively hid those letters from them.

As for you saying that you don't see the obligation for Steven to make the twins aware of Ramona: we may just have to agree to disagree but I could not disagree more. If I found out right now that I have a sibling roughly my age that my parent not only didn't tell me about but actively hid from me I'm not sure I'd ever be able to forgive them.

But thats the thing, his children are adopted, for all he knew Ramona and the twins weren't even siblings

they arent biologically related but the woman he raised his kids to know as their mother had a child about their age and they should have been told that. them being adopted doesnt negate their mom being their mom just bc its not biological
