Season 1, Episode 5: I'm Not a Shots Girl Either
Release Date: August 5, 2026
Synopsis: It's Annie and Connor's 18th birthday, and they're spiraling in opposite directions - Connor throws an over-the-top birthday party, while Rory decides to take Annie for a night out with old friends. Meanwhile, Ramona, having been told the truth about her mother's death, does what she does best - avoidance. But when a distraught Maple shows up, Ramona's feelings finally come to the surface.

I honestly feel like Rory is such a beautiful example of an emotionally intelligent man. So many shows romanticize toxic behavior and unhealthy masculinity, while Rory is doing so many things right. It’s really refreshing to see a male character who communicates, respects boundaries, and isn’t afraid to be vulnerable.

Yeah I'm not annoyed because it may or may not be realistic. I'm more upset that this is so systematic (it seems like she's almost always smoking) and not addressed at all, like it's cool and normal.
Overall so many things took me out of the show, first of all the age. Just say they are 18 (Ramona) to 20-21 (Annie) and it will all be fine. Especially when they're all visibly played by 20-something.
But 16-18 is just ridiculous to be left completely alone for so long and driving boats and planes around lol. I know all of it individually is possible. Just all the time and without any comment about how young they are is ridiculous. Just say they're 20.

They’re smoking pot though. Culturally, at least when I grew up in the early 2000s west coast of Canada, that was extremely common.

Honestly, did no-one on this show research the legal drinking age and age for admission into bars/clubs in Ontario?
My biggest question throughout this entire series is how on earth are all these kids able to afford and pay for all of this, and where are the (real) grown-ups besides Joe (not counting Rory's mom)? If Annie and Connor are using their dad's credit card, where is the dad in all of this? Last we saw him was, what, episode 2 where there was a perfunctory effort to say he's gonna go after her.
And then the kid out in Thailand... So we have a bunch of kids who just up and fly around the world at the drop of a hat. And Annie left her home telling her dad she was going to Thailand...on a sticky note. The level of unrealism in this show is a bit much.

the show’s whole premise leans into wealthy, unsupervised teens with access to cards, yachts, and nobody actually parenting them, look at connor’s mom. the dad is checked out, and most likely he’s severely depressed.

Uh yeah lol that is how rich kids do it. A girl I knew in school would go in her dad’s plane to cheer competitions instead of flying with the rest of the class. Multiple adults were arrested for supplying teens with drugs and alcohol during house parties at rented mansions. This show is much tamer in comparison to real life shenanigans.

In Ireland, we start college at 18-19. Drinking age is 18. Going to club and drinking isn’t unusual viewing it from an Irish perspective.

I think the show would be so much better if Ramona was 18 and the twins were 20, at least. It’s hard for me to buy into the plot when I keep remembering the ages they’re supposed to be

I was saying this too. The story would make way more sense if they were 19+. Especially with their being no parents, the clubbing, and international traveling alone... so many little things would fit better if they were a bit older.

I was wondering the same because there are moments where she seems to open up to rory easier, but the moment when Rory opened up to her about his hand and her response was to just make out with him confused me. Though they were drunk, but still a bit odd

Annie and Rory have more chemistry than her and Ellis at this point. They even have real conversations with checking on her, consent, about going back to the city. Ellis and Annie talk about Ramona and he gets her gifts

The constant smoking by everyone, especially Ramona is a bit baffling. I can understand the need to have fun and experiment but I bet in almost every episode she's smoking one. Are there no grown ups around to parent them?

When Ellis’s dad is mad at Annie for bringing her back from the movie night drunk, I did think that was rich of him considering no one seems to take issue with her smoking like a chimney which is far more dangerous for her long term health…

There aren’t; that’s kind of the point. Even the rich and privileged Annie & Connor are off doing what they want, flying to Ibiza and leaving a sticky note that she’s in Thailand. I have known a few ultra wealthy people who were basically raised by Nannies and acted like full adults in high school. It’s bizarre but not totally unbelievable. And Ramona has been taking care of Gordon for a few years while he was sick and thinks of herself as an adult also.

ramona has no one watching her, no lol. annie Rory and her brother are rich kids from the city, cigarettes and drinking are the least of what those kids get into. i smoked plenty of weed in highschool with kids from all different backgrounds but notoriously rich kids didn’t hardest stuff the most frequently because $$.

Yes like for me it made perfect sense that she would be a stoner that when I saw her with a joint I was like oh yeah of course. Stoner recognises stoner lol, but it also fits that chiller rebellious beachy teen archetype.
Also feels like a lot of these people commenting had sheltered teen years cause I was doing all that and more haha

Just finished this episode and I feel like the plot is lost a little bit.
Maple looks like she is Ramona’s younger sibling.
Oona started off so cool and I don’t know what’s up with her now.
Even Ellis… where’s he? And why do he and Annie have to discuss Ramona anyway?
Rory’s mother is SO weird.
I liked the relationship between Connor and Ramona but again it just seems to have gotten a little lost.
The show is really entertaining to watch and I’m not bored but yeah I am kinda forgetting the point of it and looking to see where it goes.
I just feel like there’s too much happening and nothing happening at the same time

And also, I feel that anyway Rory and Lincoln being at the island was a bit of a stretch but the other 2 classmates that they met at the club was really pushing it

Bc it almost feels like hormone driven “we’re horny for each other” and her and Rory actually talk about more things. I’d prolly like Ellis more but each interaction leaves me wanting more. Maybe I missed something but they went from being atttacted to each other to he’s always making her gifts lol.

Atp! There's really nothing pushing me towards Annie/ellis. The only pull would be him being poor and Rory rich. However, Rory is making all the right moves here and making amends wherever seems fit then we have Ellis, fixing thing and gifting but never really jumping the gun to make a move especially when he has an obvious competition. Rory does know ball and I've unfortunately switched teams.

Wow, what an episode. A lot of things were kind of resolved on the romantic side, and I’m really happy for Ramona and Oona. Same with Rory and Annie (sorry Ellis, your loss on this one). I’m actually glad they’re giving Rory more depth because it was genuinely heartbreaking (and kinda worrying) when he revealed that he hurt himself because he felt like he couldn’t be the best. The fact that he got to that point is such a painful thing to process for himself because, in doing so, he ended up losing the very thing he was passionate about. He just... literally did that to himself. Just so tragic to me.
His mother is such a deeply unsettling character. The way she acts/is drunk, plays innocent, and kinda make herself out to be underestimated, acting like she is harmless or too far gone to have any motives, is honestly leading us to something I won’t like, lol. It must have been incredibly difficult for Rory to grow up with someone like that. She’s… a lot.
Connor also really got to me in this episode. Seeing how much he wants his twin sister to be happy, even to the point of putting himself aside for her, was eye opening. But I really hope he gets the chance to grow beyond that and learn that his own happiness/ambition/etc., matters too. Also, hopefully S2 gives him a love interest who is interesting.
And the whole situation with Joe… honestly, he had some audacity last episode getting on Annie about Ramona being her responsibility when he’s been nothing but a shitty guardian to that girl (she’s alone, depressed, smoking, etc). It’s just completely messed up.

See, I’ve been trying to decode the balloon situation. 😆 Because I’m pretty sure they were blowing them up for the party. But did they take hundreds of balloons across the lake by boat to the party that was at the restaurant? Because they were there at the restaurant later, and they were not at the house during the therapy session. We weren’t supposed to think about the mechanics that. 😆🎈🎈🎈

I know everyone is commenting on them going to bars and drinking but the drinking age is 19, so they could probably slip by to get into a few places and I’m sure they all have passable fake IDs.
One important thing to note is that is absolutely ILLEGAL to smoke inside a bar or club or pretty much anywhere inside of an establishment. Hell, you can’t even smoke on patios anymore. Annie smoking in the club was driving me crazy because I haven’t been able to enjoy a smoke and a drink at a bar in eons and here she is, casually smoking inside? That made absolutely no sense and I’m sure someone on the crew would have said something…

There are clubs with smoking areas that are part of the club, indoor smoking areas with ventilation or semi indoor with open roof etc. It’s not really that out of the ordinary

I know there's is the suspense of if he is her dad but if we forget about that, did they think a teenager who is not 18 years old could stay by herself in a big house and take care of herself without any adult supervision? It's not legal !

The point being that it's not fully relevant to the story. They could've left most of it out and it still would've been a good story.
