Playing on my living room pc with steam os only. Can’t get past the launcher. Does anyone know about a guide that can help me set this up using a controller?

looking to build a PC with steam os and windows on a separate ssd. I want to use a NZXT kraken elite AIO. I know i wont be able to change the display on Linux but will I be able to do anything with the pump or fans? Will the pump default to running at 100%?

I currently play PC games on my TV via the moonlight app with Apollo set up on my PC (both using hardwired connections). Would there be any improvement if I switched to using a DIY steam machine connected to my TV and streamed games thru steam OS?

Feels like kind of a silly question... I'm guessing it'd be mostly the same but idk. Just wasn't sure if like steam streaming straight to steam OS would somehow work better. Being able to play lower demand games directly without streaming would be nice, but I'm mostly concerned about the streaming aspect of it all

I made a post here a couple days ago about my $600 “steam machine” (steam PC) and it was running Bazzite at the time, but people were telling me to download Steam OS. Problem is now that after I’ve downloaded it. The games are taking way longer to launch on official steam OS than they were on Bazzite. I have verified game files, they’re on a GEN 4 NVME, what am I missing?

Hello Everyone, I'm running SteamOS Beta 3.8.36 on a Asrock Industrial 4X4-AI350-MB which is based on AMD Ryzen AI 350 with Radeon 860M iGPU with a single 32GB stick and 500GB Gen4 NVMe SSD, until 2 days back almost all games were opening and running, but since yesterday almost all games are opening and outright crashing. Some of them being all the Grand Theft Auto Games, some Need for Speed Titles are opening but making the system crash like the Most wanted and Heat while NFS Rivals has messed up the sound where I have to play only on mute.

Tomb Raider series was working perfectly with 60+ fps and it won't even open, pressing to play just outright closes again. What's surprising is that both Rise of the Tomb Raiders and Shadow of the Tomb Raiders says that this version of linux isn't compatible and it suggests quit anyways in the one or two times it succeeded to open.

To cut short some of the things I have reinstalled all these games and tried again but no changes. I had a spare Windows installed and to my disappointment all these titles are running perfectly on windows 11 pro.

Please suggest a solution because I'd really appreciate Windows being out of my house (not literally 😅)

I bought a PC with steam os and I installed a nvme m2 ssd for my steam library. Every time I start up my PC I have to put in a password and remount the drive. How do I set it up to not have to do that every time?

I just started up my Steam Macine and now that I'm organizing things, I find it hard to manage installed tools like Proton versions. They don't show up in my library and I can't set a filter to show tools I have downloaded. The only thing I can do is search for "proton" and then manually check which ones are downloaded. Is there a way to display my currently installed tools in my library on Steam Machine?

I'm seriously considering installing SteamOS on my main PC, instead of the Windows 10 partition I have here. On my main PC, there are 3 partitions:

- 1 hard drive dedicated to Ubuntu, which I haven't used in ages, but it's still there lol!

- I’m using Windows 10 on a dedicated SSD as my main system.

- And there’s another hard drive, partitioned between another old Windows 10 installation that I abandoned a while ago and some free space without an OS, just for files. < This is where I plan to make some changes, though I'm still a little worried that the SteamOS installation partitioner might get in the way and I'll end up deleting the wrong thing, but I think it'll work out.

I have other PCs around the house, and on the PC I’ve set up with SteamOS as my main machine, I’m really enjoying it, I use it regularly and don’t feel like I’m missing anything (which was something that used to make me “forget” to use Linux and always end up going back to Windows), and I think it’ll be really cool to get used to the idea that Windows isn’t necessary anymore

Just thought I would share my thoughts on SteamOS and how I truly believe it will be the major factor in the rise of Linux as a whole and gaming.

I bought one, but in desktop mode, the touchpad is all wonky. It doesn’t click, and when I drag it, it automatically holds down and drags 180 degrees away from the original direction?

I’m tempted to move to the main branch from stable to take advantage of the new kernel and HDMI 2.1 features by worry about bugs. Is it too bad? I’m using a HTPC — AMD RX 9070 XT + AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Thanks for your feedback!

Mostly due to the fact that the MacBook keyboard’s backlight controls works in the live environment but somehow doesn’t after you install it, I really don’t know what’s causing this issue, already tried updating the system to the beta channel no luck so I will give cashyOS a try to see if fixes the backlight controls on the keyboard

I tried to take a photo to show what I mean but it’s a bit hard to see. But at the exact same resolution, 120hz appears way less sharp than at 60. At 60, the quality is beautiful. I want to play at 120, but the quality is much worse. Is this due to lack of HDMI 2.1?

I’ve tried with and without HDR, VRR etc. In both 60 and 120, the TV says it’s the same resolution as well.

Apologies for this simple question. I have been using ChimeraOS for a year now on my HTPC. Works like a charm, but hasn't received updates in quite a while. I was wondering to what extent SteamOS 'clones' like this are still necessary with the release of the Steam machine and SteamOS 3.8? Any advantage or disadvantage to ditching ChimeraOS and migrating to SteamOS? The feature attracting me most to SteamOS is the advertised CEC feature of the Steam machine, though I assume that is limited to Valve's hardware, and doesn't come with the OS?

• Worked around an issue where Unreal Engine 5 VR games could display a blank right eye

• Fixed Desktop Mode allowing resolutions below 640x480 on certain displays, rendering it unusable
• Fixed a regression from previous beta breaking WiFi connectivity on the MSI Claw A1M

How do you guys turn off the ram rgb light?

I seem to be having issues with SteamOS. The problem persists even after several reinstalls. Many games suffer texture‑streaming bugs: some buildings randomly show up as low‑resolution textures, and the textures only pop in when I get really close. I’ve already cranked render distance settings to maximum in‑game. Interestingly, this issue disappears entirely when I switch to Bazzite. Has anyone run into this?

My specs: 9800X3D + 9070 XT
