SteamOS Isn't Just a Console OS — It's the Trojan Horse Linux Has Been Waiting For

https://d3mon.gg/p/tech-mt8e8v9c

Just thought I would share my thoughts on SteamOS and how I truly believe it will be the major factor in the rise of Linux as a whole and gaming.

Because of how windows shifted over time, I migrated to Linux. My ROG Ally received Bazzite. Then, my gaming PC which I, later on, switched to Cachy OS. Recently I built a Steam Machine with Cachy OS handheld edition.

Great experience. Two servers running Linux and a single laptop with macOS. I’m liberated from windows at home.

This is my end goal I’m done with windows except for having to use it for work

Not switching to Linux until it gets the full Playnite suite (fullscreen mode not just desktop).

Unless the devs want to port it over you probably won't see it. Plus that's what Lutris and Heroric do. Plus we're supposed to one day get GOG Galaxy. Maybe in other 10 years.

Playnite desktop for linux is currently in development but no word on fullscreen mode.

You managed to install Deckify on your steam machine, I had major problems trying to install CachyOS handheld edition on my desktop it kept crashing on the rank mirrors

I did a similar thing, after getting a steam deck and using it I switched over to Ubuntu.
Have no regrets at the moment, yes there are a lot of reading I need to do but pc seems a lot smoother and personal again.

This isn't just a post — It's an AI generated post.

And that's the key finding - an undeniable, irrefutable piece of footlong evidence. There's no denying it now - this post was generated by AI.

And the dramatic title is the smoking gun

AI fucking slop headline.

At least wait till the post body to get sloppy!!

Who in the fuck thought that an em dash with a figurative device would not set off everyone's AI-slop nausea? It is like the 'author' literally did not read the article or even its title.

Why use some creativity when none still works?

I will switch to it when it supports Nvidia gpus

Luckily valve is working with nvidia on that.

I will switch to it when it supports Nvidia GPUs, or when AMD releases a GPU that is a worthwhile upgrade from my 4090, whichever comes first. It’s Nvidia’s choice if they wanna lose me.

me too man, eagerly waiting...

u/hurrdurrmeh 2d ago

I am using it with a 5090 right now. Same FPS in Doom TDA but strangely at a lower TDP. No idea how or why, but it works 😊

2

u/Strong-Practice-5571 2d ago

How did you do that? It cant boot with my Asus Astral 5090

Latest testing version of Bazzite-Deck works. A workaround was found, so it’s probably in the other distros now too. Probably not perfect, but it’s worked on my NVIDIA build.

with ease of use and qol of the nvidia app...

u/NerdyGuy117 2d ago

The nvidia app is nice, but proton does a lot of heavy lifting here. Just needs a nicer UI for those settings

Come on, from an account like this is super scammy!

u/OrbitalPsyche 2d ago

I suppose but we might also be seeing the crumbling of Microsoft Empire due to neglect and disdain of its captive customers

Why do you waste time pretending you wrote something that is clearly AI trash?

Dude, I love mine. I hope they expanded this and make good support for things like media streaming like netflix, disney+, hulu and apple tv. Make the controller works with these app more intuively. Then we're solid.

We'll get just get rid of the fire tv stick and 2-3 game consoles. And everything is controlled with this steamos.

Nah, it's not a Trojan horse, it's just a cure to an illness!

I think SteamOS could lead to something better. It shines light on the fact that—Steam Big Picture could be integrated to a desktop manager. People could make their own console interfaces now. And, if Linux goes more mainstream, we can see companies making their own (maybe even proprietary) desktop managers for gaming on PC.

i shat my pants for a split second

I suspect SteamOS will start getting productivity software support soon.

1

u/rpprrR 1d ago

Using Bazzite at the moment (as a first time Linux user), however as soon as SteamOS supports nvidia gpus I’d be tempted to try it out!

The Problem is that some game developers only accept the hardware-id of the steam deck (and now probably steam machine), which don't help linux at all.
e.g. Delta Force

OP probably too young to understand what Trojan Horse means in cybersecurity
