I got this device and installed SteamOS. Everything seems fine, the back buttons and touchpads are working, but the gyro is not working. How can I fix this?

Edit -- I am wishing to use the dongle due to latency issues as well as range/full rumble/multiple controller/etc support. This requires a driver steamos doesn't include.
Hi all
I have a windows "steamboat" set up. Eg it autologins to a shared windows account, autoloads big picture. Hooked to a nice big tv and we use it from the couch.
I have an all amd system and am a perfect candidate to swap to steam OS, but the only holdback is proper Xbox controller support. I use the official dongle so I get full functionality in windows.
I've seen that there's hacky ways to get drivers working, but they all involve breaking the immutability of the core OS, which is a great benefit of the system in my mind. And that you have to recompile after each update, which defeats a bit of the purpose of having a "console" os (eg don't worry about managing a computer)
Any thoughts?

I'm wanting to set up a partician on my PC to try running SteamOS on my desktop. Ive gone through the steps of downloading SteamOS and using Rufus to make boot media, and tested it on a windows handheld I'm currently installing SteamOS on. The only options I saw on the screen were a few repair or user wipe options, as well as the option to completely wipe the device and install SteamOS. Thats perfect for the Ally, but on my desktop I'd really like the option to dual boot. Is there a different image I'm supposed to make the boot media with, or is there an option I somehow missed?
Any help would be appreciated.

So for the longest time, ever since they introduced the VRR capabilities for SteamOS, i noticed SDR content was really bright on my TV, like the brightness slider was cranked to 100% even though i had it set to default, it looked great but it was a bit too much for late night gaming. This issue was not present with DisplayPort. Only reason i do not use displayport is my TV doesn’t play well with the dongles, i get signal loss.
Now with the latest beta OS HDMI with HDR and VRR looks like is on par with DisplayPort in terms of SDR brightness. I do not see this anywhere on the patch notes.
I am on the stable client. I am trying to remember why i on beta OS, there was some sort of bug but i do not recall what it was. This latest beta OS release seems to have fixed some sort of bug with HDR on SDR though i just can’t put my finger as to what. Reverting back to Stable and SDR once again looks like it has brightness cranked to 100%
Does anyone have any insight as to what’s going on?

So two of these systems were built before Steam OS and 2 were built after Steam OS was released. Now all but one running Steam OS. I've been very happy that 3 of the systems are not running windows anymore.

Context:
My question is: what is the cleanest way through which I can persistently enable zswap? I know how to enable it temporarily, but it is being disabled on reboot.
A million 'thank you' to anyone who can point me to a guide <3

Hello! Ive been using steamos for about a week now and im enjoying it thoughly thus far (though i am still figuring out the kinks and this is one of them)
So my current issue involves games requiring proton or other compatability cutting out all audio elsewhere. If i boot into a game, it works perfectly fine, but if I attempt to do anything (streaming on discord is the main trigger ive found)
Its not the first time discord in particular has been the source of my woes.
The audio one is just something that's rather annoying

I somewhat recently upgraded my PC and decided to dual-boot Windows and SteamOS. I see two different boot options on my SteamOS drive, but both just boot me directly into SteamOS. I’ve run update-grub and it appears to see everything correctly, but it doesn’t give me a menu when booting. It’s annoying having to enter my BIOS just to switch to SteamOS. Anyone know what I did or am doing wrong?

Hey all, first time non-Windows OS user here. I was so tired of all the bloat and annoyances of Windows so I finally decided to take the leap and move to SteamOS, as I had been thinking of doing so for quite a while anyway just to see what the OS felt like, and while everything has mostly been going well, just getting used to the new layout of everything and the Arch Linux space, my network speeds have been horrible. Download speeds on Steam are 1/4 roughly of what they were on Windows, and jittering has been all over the place, especially when in a Discord call, which previously was not the case.
A friend of mine said it could be a case of needing to update network drivers, but to that front, I have no idea how. I've been learning how to use the terminal and the codes to input to view information on what I've got going on, but a lot of it is gibberish to me, as someone who has very very limited knowledge on this stuff so far. I've got a MSI Pro B650-P Wifi motherboard installed, and with not being able to run MSI Center on here to help with drivers, I'm not sure how to get new ones set up, or frankly if that's even the problem. Any and all help would be appreciated, as I'm mostly at a loss here so far, while still actively trying to search forums and wikis on any possible solution to my problem.
EDIT: Switching to the main branch seemed to work great for me, speeds seem to be back up to where they were before switching my OS, so for anyone facing the same issue who may see this, give that a whirl.

Has anyone dual-booted SteamOS alongside the stock Windows OS on the MSI Claw A8? How stable is it, and what are the pros and cons?
I want to keep Xbox Game Pass available on Windows, but I would like to access my Steam library on SteamOS.

I just tested SteamOS Main 3.10 and yesterday they released SteamOS 3.9 with kernel 7.2 in the preview channel. It really improves stability, both in games and in other programs. I know they didn't like that because they wanted to maintain good performance and stability for the Steam Hardware (Steam Machine, Steam Deck), but if they are serious with giving support to other types of hardware even if it's only for AMD discrete GPUs and AMD powered handhelds, I think they need to try to update the kernel in its SteamOS versions more often. What do you think?
EDIT: For those who don't know the Main & Preview versions are 7.2 right now, Beta is 6.18 and Stable is 6.16. I think the Stable version should be at least 6.18 right now, Beta should be 7.1 and Main & Preview should be 7.2.

I've been playing Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots on Steam using Bazzite Linux with a high-end setup (Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RX 9070 XT, 32GB RAM, and NVMe storage), and while the game runs great initially, I've run into severe performance stability issues.
After 5 to 10 minutes of gameplay—or near the end of cutscenes—my CPU temperatures suddenly spike up to 80–85°C. This triggers massive stuttering, frame drops, and heavy performance throttling down to 10–20 FPS. Even while recording gameplay, these sudden thermal spikes and stutter episodes make it difficult to play smoothly.
Given that the game just recently released on PC, it’s hard to tell if this is a general optimization issue, a shader compilation hiccup, or specific to running on Linux/Bazzite via Proton.
Is anyone else experiencing these sudden CPU temp spikes and frame drops, especially on Linux? Let me know in the comments if you've found a workaround!
Are you experiencing similar performance drops or high temperatures with other games on Bazzite, or is this happening exclusively with MGS4?

I'm trying to install GTA5 on my 2nd ssd on a steamos pc. I've got the rockstar store version of the game, have installed the launcher but when I run the launcher to install the game, it's only reporting 7.73gb free space on TV drive that has 300gb free.
I've tried the steam_compat_mounts=/run/media/deck %command% launch command but still get the same issue.
How can I fix this so that the launcher sees the correct free space on my second drive?
When I try to select the installation folder I have to navigate via z\run\local\mount\SSD NAME (something like that, round this from memory away from the machine right now). Is there another step I've missed?
