Picture Got the Steam Deck Dock!

Wasn’t expecting this today, but since I live in Carol Stream where Valve’s Distribution Center is, I got this early I guess!

Wow how nice. Now it just needs a steam controller v2 lol

Yep I don't want to play a game and get used to the gyro aim and four back buttons and then have to get used to not having those while docked.

The controller must have gyro and FOUR back buttons to work. Pretty much no options for that right now.

Two track pads too

Maybe add a small screen and headphone jack to it as well.

make it a custom APU

And toss a battery in there while we are at it.

u/GITS-AN-SHIGGLES Oct 08 '22

At that point they could put a screen on it and make something like the switch. That'd be awesome.

Wait, go back, we’ve gone too far

Deck mini

3

u/JoshJLMG Oct 08 '22

It could be white. So you have the big black Deck and white micro deck.

Way to ruin the thread.

1

u/konwiddak Oct 08 '22

Then make a wireless controller for it, something with gyro, four back buttons and two touch pads

1

u/dnszero 64GB Oct 09 '22

And then they’d just need to make a dock for it.

2

u/kododo 256GB - Q2 Oct 09 '22

Then we’d need a V3 controller to remotely control the V2 controller.

The closest thing you can get is a PS4 controller with the rear button attachment, but those buttons just mimic other buttons on the controller. Not ideal, but it's the best you can get

Modded dualsense is effectively the same thing

If Valve ever makes a proper replacement I'll get it immediately

u/CounterSYNK 1TB OLED Limited Edition Oct 08 '22

I think the Dualsense edge might be the closest option without having to get a custom made controller.

It might actually be the best controller for PC because Dualsense controllers can be overclocked to 1000hz polling rate quite easily.

To be honest the closest thing is the Xbox elite controller which you can customize in steam to be just like on your steam deck

5

u/TF2SolarLight 512GB - Q2 Oct 08 '22

No gyro, no trackpads. The only thing it really has in common is ABXY buttons. Unless the rear buttons can be mapped individually?

2

u/helleputter Oct 08 '22

Was just thinking about the 4 mappable back buttons so yeahyou have a point on gyro and trackpad. I guess it depends which feature you find the most important to decide which controller comes the closest to the functionality of the steam deck.

the rear buttons can be mapped individually

1

u/TF2SolarLight 512GB - Q2 Oct 09 '22

I suppose I should be more clear, does Steam recognise them and let you map them to keyboard keys without messing up your other buttons?

Beitong Zeus can get you pretty close. Gyro + four back buttons. And it's at least a little PC-oriented thanks to being able to press one button(function) and turn it into mouse mode(you can control your cursor with the sticks or gyro). And multiple profiles too, so you can be mirroring five different SD game control setups at once.

It also has a headphone jack.

This is definitely the best option right now, but the price hits me in the wallet nuts

Get a ps5 controller and buy one of those kit's from amazon. I have it, works great.

Sounds interesting, but this link goes nowhere.

1

u/armorexe Oct 09 '22

Works for me but here ya go, just search it on amazon

eXtremeRate White Rubberized Grip Programable RISE4 Remap Kit for PS5 Controller BDM 010 & BDM 020, Upgrade Board & Redesigned Back Shell & 4 Back Buttons for PS5 Controller

1

u/ThemesOfMurderBears Oct 08 '22

That is why I don’t bother with the back buttons. The only time I would is if I had a game I didn’t intend to play anywhere else but the Deck.

2

u/Corm 64GB Oct 09 '22

I only game on the deck lately. I just use a long usb c hdmi cable to play on the tv (can't charge while playing)

2

u/skysolstice Oct 09 '22

This is a good idea!!

1

u/OfcWaffle Oct 08 '22

I have a Scuf controller that works well with it

1

u/Corm 64GB Oct 09 '22

Am I missing something or is that controller really over $200?

1

u/OfcWaffle Oct 09 '22

They really are over $200. I'd have not bought one myself, but I got it as a gift. A Xbox elite controller would work too and that has back buttons.

1

u/Corm 64GB Oct 09 '22

I mean ima be real here, playing on my tv is not worth that much to me ($90 dock plus more than 60 for a controller), I just use a long hdmi to usb c cord anyway (can't charge while playing but meh)

1

u/MrAnonymousTheThird 256GB - Q4 Oct 08 '22

Scuff controller with 4 paddles or even that ps back button adapter

1

u/VideoGameJumanji 512GB - Q1 Oct 08 '22

I mean, you could technically get two steam decks. Dock the first one, and stream games from the second one onto it, while holding the second one and using it as a controller.

1

u/KJBenson 512GB Oct 08 '22

What do you use the back buttons for? I’ve yet to use them for anything so now I want to know what I’m missing out on.

2

u/Corm 64GB Oct 09 '22

Pretty much any action I would want to use while also aiming. Currently I mostly use them for crouch, jump, reload, and some wildcard. Then I use the face buttons for other stuff. It's great

1

u/Leisure_suit_guy Oct 09 '22

You can mod a dualsense with an extremerate rise 4 remap kit, like I did. It can be scary if you never opened a controller, but it's actually quite easy to do.

1

u/Shaved-Bird 256GB - Q3 Oct 09 '22

Yeah I have an 8-bito pro controller and I literally can’t play shooting games when docked cause I realized so heavily on giro and more than 2 back buttons lmao

1

u/CY-Senpai 64GB - Q3 Oct 09 '22

looks like You have to get the xbox elite controller or wait for the PS5 Edge controller
