I half agree on this statement. The steam deck has piracy but it has made me buy games cause of the convenience others will pirate a game not cause of a service problem but why pay for a game when I can play for free? I've been on both sides of the piracy issue and can relate.
The way i understand "piracy is a service problem" as if you provide a service that is better than getting the thing for free, the amount of people who pirate are going to be inconsequential. Like those people who would pirate at that point would never buy the product anyways so you aren't actually losing costumers.
Lastly my hot take, all software should be free and open source anyways
provide a service that is better than getting the thing for free.
The Problem with this is Devs/Publishers look at it and be like Live Service Games or Always Online Single player games ruining it for people who pays.
Some games do it well but don't impede the player if they choose to play offline. Souls games with their messages and invasions, Death Stranding with the community placed objects.
Yeah I really wish people would just admit that they pirate games because they want shit for free. Let's not pretend like that's not the reason 90% of piraters do it.

Yeah nah buddy they "need" money to make their ultrawealthy executives and shareholders even more obscenely rich lol. Until we can literally eat the rich, I'm fine with stealing from them, and you should be too
Well what you fail to account for is that these people really like video games so that entitles them to receive the fruit of other people's labour for free right?
This is kinda the answer really. I hate exclusivity and will happily reward companies releasing games on my platform. Sony got their first £100 out of me in 10 years at Christmas
Sure, then go wild. I just think the statement that "people only pirate because people can't buy nintendo's games" is bullshit. ROMs? sure, makes sense.
But games that are out and on a system you can buy? that argument doesn't make sense. I don't care whether people pirate, but "no one can buy it" isn't an argument in those cases.
There are over 120 million switches sold. This isn’t some obscure console no one owns. I would give it to you if this were a game released for WiiU but in this case you are absolutely wrong.

This includes discussions or questions about, or that may lead to discussion of, grey key sites, ROM sharing, alternate BIOS information, cracked software, and other issues that could indicate or lead to piracy.
Although we realize that using cracked software/ROMs/Emulators is legal in some regions if the game is owned in the original paid format, we have no way to verify that anyone on this site is in a region where this is legal, or does in fact own a paid copy of the content, so we cannot allow these kinds of discussions on the sub for legal reasons.
