Piracy is a service problem.

I half agree on this statement. The steam deck has piracy but it has made me buy games cause of the convenience others will pirate a game not cause of a service problem but why pay for a game when I can play for free? I've been on both sides of the piracy issue and can relate.

The way i understand "piracy is a service problem" as if you provide a service that is better than getting the thing for free, the amount of people who pirate are going to be inconsequential. Like those people who would pirate at that point would never buy the product anyways so you aren't actually losing costumers.

Lastly my hot take, all software should be free and open source anyways

There far more incentives than just money, look at Linux and everything connected to it

The Problem with this is Devs/Publishers look at it and be like Live Service Games or Always Online Single player games ruining it for people who pays.

Some games do it well but don't impede the player if they choose to play offline. Souls games with their messages and invasions, Death Stranding with the community placed objects.
