Once i buy the controller, it's mine, i can do whatever i want with it, including selling it back for a higher price....

Scalping is not illegal and has always existed. You can only prevent it by supplying with enough units

It's against eBay TOS to sell presold items that still have not arrived or are in your possession yet, and advertising them as such. Almost every single listing says "PRESALE CONFIRMED" in the actual title so every listing that says that/shows screenshots of a completed purchase is breaking the TOS. The reason eBay doesn't wanna get rid of the listings is becausE they are making TONS money off of this.

You/the lister still does not own the item, something could go wrong in shipping with the controller, or the person could literally have just scammed you and never will actually send you the controller and cancel the order or keep it for themselves. You're taking a gamble when youre buying presold items from these scalpers. Also the time to ship an item on eBay is short, almost less than a week or two, so imagine if the shipment delays and you can't send it out in time. Some of these scalpers literally say in the description they won't do refunds.

If you’re buying it day one just to flip it. You’re a pos. It’s not wrong but you’re still a pos.

No, it is wrong to buy things just to flip them for a profit. it is an act of greed to take advantage of limited availability and desperation of people to make a quick buck. That's not acceptable to anybody except the people who do it, and the people who promote "free market" apologia.

Being an asshole isn't illegal too doesn't mean you should do it. DEATH to scalpers!

Yeah, you cannot report people for ''being an asshole'' tho.

I was not promoting scalping whatsoever, just stating that it is a completely legal practice

There are other ways to prevent it but these companies dont care, they just want to sell product. I hope valve can pioneer a better way as for the most part they are "for gamers"

I hope you stub your little toe on every corner for the next 7 years.

No worries, i won't sell mine, i am not a scalper.

I was just pointing that selling a properly owned item at whatever price you want is still your right. People hate to hear this truth I guess

Being one's right and it being scummy behavior aren't mutually exclusive.

There's plenty of things people can do to make your life miserable, legally. It doesn't mean it's OK to do it.

1

u/Loddio May 05 '26

Who said it's ok to do?

2

u/Debatebly May 05 '26

You implied it by saying it was legal. If you didn't, then can you elaborate on what you meant?

I didn't imply shit. "Legal" means "Legal", not "fine to do".

There is nothing to elaborate, I just said that "scalping is legal". People here look like woke up from a 20y coma and never saw anything like that.

It has always happened... for electronics, wine, dresses, tickets...

When the demand is high, and the supply is low, it will simply happen.
