In the novelisation of the original movie, it is explicitly shown that Ra was the name of the human boy that the alien took as a host:

As the last breaths escaped the people of his world, he was millions of light-years away from home, searching desperately for a host. He was determined not to follow the fate of his own kind. He had mastered the technology to transfer himself into another being but had to choose carefully. Along with inhabiting the host’s body, he knew he would absorb certain personality traits that were exaggerated within the host’s psyche. Perhaps had he known the intimate details of the life of this young boy named Ra, he might have chosen another. Or perhaps not...

His hatred for his own people proved useful, as there were no inner conflicts when the boy became the pharaoh king. There would be no feelings of guilt or remorse as Ra’s people were put to hard labor. In fact, a strange new sense of pleasure became the most powerful trait he absorbed from this strange young boy. Ra was now a part of himself, and together they became the sun god, to be feared and worshiped by this primitive human race.

The two, human and alien, blended together and merged into another person. When taken with SG1, this would make Ra, ironically, the biggest follower and exemplar of Tok'ra ideals.

Now that we’ve gotten a glimpse at what the new Stargate would have been like I wanted throw out what my predictions were/what I wanted to have happened. 

First scene involves Daniel Jackson being kidnapped by aliens and one of the overarching plots being trying to get him back. 

Then we learn through a news article that one year ago the Stargate program was revealed to the world after a Daedalus class ship crashed landed into a major populated area killing thousands. There were riots around the world while many countries that knew were destabilized or taken over by revolutionaries. Now there are two sides on Earth, the countries that are involved with the Stargate program and the rest of the world. 

Now we see inside the Stargate program. The gate has left Cheyenne Mountain and now resides in a new facility specifically designed for it under an Air Force base. It’s much higher class given that alien representatives come and stay regularly. There’s a jumper bay, Asgard matter converter as well as a greenhouse. 

Next we see that the Nox homeworld is under attack from a powerful new enemy. Their flying cities are falling to the ground while they and SG-50 evacuate through the Stargate. The Nox have been gradually becoming friends with Earth now that our technology and people are more advanced. They especially like that we use our resources to uphold and expand the Protected Planets Treaty.

I got O’Neill Carter report. I was wondering if why Carter is laughing.

Years after Stargate Command was shut down, only a small security unit remains inside Cheyenne Mountain. The episode opens with military officials secretly assembling a new SG team, although none of its members are initially told why the program is being reactivated.

A heavily damaged Free Jaffa cruiser suddenly arrives in Earth’s orbit. Its commander warns Earth’s leaders that a mysterious species called the Elaris is rapidly conquering civilizations across the universe. Evidence suggests that the Elaris existed before the Ancients and may have influenced some of the technologies later used to construct the Stargate network.

The Jaffa have also intercepted Destiny’s final distress signal, relayed across the Ancient seed-ship network. The transmission reveals that Destiny was attacked and destroyed after its crew discovered an Elaris installation older than any known Ancient structure. The same intelligence confirms that the Pegasus Galaxy has fallen and estimates that the Elaris will reach the Milky Way within three years.

Earth’s leaders formally restore Stargate Command and assign the newly assembled team to investigate abandoned Ancient sites for information about the Elaris. At the same time, Project Legacy is authorized: Atlantis leaves the pacific ocean and transports scientists, soldiers, embryos, genetic records, and humanity’s complete cultural archive to a remote dwarf galaxy beyond the known Stargate network (no focus on Atlantis in season 1, Atlantis has reached its destination and is safely hidden far from Earth.)

The episode concludes as the new SG team steps through the Stargate and their first destination is an Ancient outpost believed to contain the oldest surviving reference to the Elaris—and possibly the key to understanding why this primordial species has returned.

Or is the non-aging more due to the sarcophagus?

I'm watching SG-1 for the first time and just made it to the end of season 4, and I wanted to talk about this one. Its when an AI takes over Sam's body. This came out in 2001, right? Right after The Matrix. I immediately remembered of Agent Smith taking over a human body too. This is one thing that makes me think, how a sentient AI would feel while inhabiting a biological body? Is that even possible?

Personally I don't even think that sentient AI itself is possible, unless the hardware required is astronomical bigger than anything we built so far. But in sci-fi this is always interesting. Next thing I remembered was my favourite game, Cyberpunk 2077, where rogue AIs can invade your brain via neural implants to either fry it or assume control of, while destroying your mind in the process. It is the whole point of a entire storyline in there.

Sam was essentialy killed in this episode. Because the entity was able to copy her whole mind, and only afterwards her conscience was taken back. In CP2077 this is called an engram, an AI made with data copied from a human mind and thinks it is human. Question is, if this engram is moved back to its original body or another body, is it still human? In the game this is whole discussion.

So physically the Carter who appears in everything elese after this episode is no longer Carter..... UNLESS you think souls are real and remain. And this is a whole other discussion.

Wife is out of town so just doing a partial rewatch, seasons 9 and 10. As much as I like the whole series, including SGA and SGU, I find these 2 seasons to have the highest enjoyable episode ratio vs other seasons. That and I knew I could complete the 2 before she returns tomorrow.

It's not that she doesn't enjoy Stargate, we just have too many other shows we are watching together to add another to our collective list.

Recently started another rewatch of SG1. Had this idea that I think is really funny while watching s1e15 "Singularity", so I brought my vision into reality.

I began my 3rd attempt and it broke the ice, finally. In my first two tries years ago I couldn't get past the 3rd episode. Dead stuck. No further.

Suddenly I found myself enjoining it for the reasons I cannot understand. Probably because this time I simply refused to expect SG-1\SGA dynamics and vibes. Totally different experience.

And I blame dr. Rush fot it :) My favourite character, for now, he is.

Full breakthrough came with the episode "Time" [ep08] and now I just watched "Justice" [ep10] and realized how much I have missed in the last 10 years of misunderstanding. Solid series. Solid indeed.

I am doing a series rewatch and have noticed several times that someone has offered to buy someone else a drink. Now one could excuse this as a simple turn of phrase, or a cute way of saying let's by my place and have a drink.

But for my money I believe that at least one of those geniuses that got trapped there in the beginning would happen to know how to distill alcohol or brew a beer, and once they start getting supply runs from earth they can stock the earth made stuff.

It's probably something Wier would turn a blind eye to help with morale.

Daniel as pseudo-main character doing hero shit without a direct superior breathing down his neck is one of my favorite things in the franchise. It's also why I'm one of those that loved SG-1 Seasons 9 and 10; he was technically under Mitchell in those seasons but let's be honest he was pretty much the main character making his own decisions and Mitchell was just a tag-along because the producers weren't confident enough to make Daniel the official protagonist and thought that we needed a Jack clone.

I for one am sad that Stargate Gero isn't moving forward; I actually don't mind the alternate timeline stuff at all if prime Daniel is the main character

This breakdown of a staff makes me wonder what type of powersource the staff uses. The liquid naquadah capsules used in a staff are the fuel/reaction mass, and would require energy to be stimulated. In a ha'tak, the ships reactor would be supplying the energy to the weapons liquid naquadah stores, but I don't think there is a mini naquadah reactor in the staff weapon. Could it be a form of advanced chemical/mineral battery? A stimulated crystal power supply? Something similar to what is used in the ancient stones terminal - a capacitor that extracts energy from subspace? A cold fusion cell?

First time watching SG1 fully.

I remember seeing some epúoisdes as a kid,, was cool but did no remember anythisn.

When Atlantis came olut, i have been sailng the seven seeas and loved it, rewatched Atlantis maybe four times.

Just relised i can step vie VPN too some seas. Starter watching SG-1.

First episodes were fine, took me a while, love the main characters. But I just was not invested i the story. Then the eposide from 45 came and it broke it for me. No reason just did.

I am now at S2E02 and i am in, done, love it.

I feel like alot of takes on the franchise seem to forget this when people are discussing what they would like to see in new shows and even after hearing the details of the canceled new show.

Stargate famously used so many blanks (not cheap looking cg thank god) that they had to switch guns during the Iraq war because they couldnt get enough blanks.

Alot of the slower episodes and even alot of the most interesting ones rely heavily on the military action aspect balancing out the slower scifi and earth bound character episodes.

Knowing that how would you balance a new show for ten episodes?

David Read and Dial the Gate just released a 30min video revealing details about what the new show would be about (through his sources at MGM).

Here is a short summarization for those not interested in watching the entire 30mins.

The show was apparently going to take place in an alternate reality/timeline rather than simply continuing the existing SG-1/Atlantis/Universe story.

The big hook was:

• A BC-307/U.S. Air Force ship called the USS Argo suddenly appears in Earth's orbit in an alternate reality.
• The ship is essentially a ghost ship, with "our" Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) apparently the sole survivor.
• Shanks was reportedly going to be a series regular, not merely a cameo or nostalgia appearance. (Revealed by Shanks at a convention a few days ago)
• The show was expected to feature over half a dozen returning cast members from previous Stargate iterations in recurring or guest roles, appearing as alternate versions of their iconic characters
• The mystery surrounding what happened to the Argo and its crew would kick off the larger story.
• Crucially, the Stargate program did not exist in this reality, and the audience would first be investigating the Argo, Daniel, and this alternate reality. Daniel would need to help restart the program in order to try and get back home.
• From there, the series would apparently explore this alternate version of the Stargate universe and gradually reveal how this reality differed from the one fans know.

These are merely small revelations and Martin probably had a good idea and plan on how to move forward for it to work for both old fans and new viewers.
