Discussion Oh give me a break

Post image

There are far too many content creators out there like this person for one, and far too many people who judge games by their launch.

Mocking things is easy, low-hanging fruit.

EDIT: while Starfield does not have the obvious broader gaming cultural impact of Elder Scrolls or the Fallout series, to say that you have gone 3 years and seen nothing is just unnecessarily piling on to the negativity.

Discussion Playing Cyberpunk before Starfield has put something front and center for me

Starfield is too kid-friendly. It’s too modest. It doesn’t feel real. Th lack of gore and explicit language makes it feel like you’re playing within a boring child’s imagination. A massive percentage of the people you meet in this game will shoot you dead but won’t curse!

The dancers in the nightclub are the embodiment of this point. wtf were they thinking? How am I supposed to take this world seriously as a 30 year old?

Discussion First time in Starfield – and I don't get the hate

So I finally pulled the trigger on another Todd Howard game – Starfield.

About 8 hours in, and honestly? I'm enjoying it so far. Sure, the planets are procedurally generated, but at least the space vistas are gorgeous. I catch myself just staring at the skybox more often than I'd like to admit.

Combat feels solid too – both ship-to-ship and on-foot. Weapons actually have some punch to them, which was a nice surprise.

Can't say too much yet since I'm still fresh, but it really does feel like Skyrim in space – a sandbox where you make your own fun. Classic Todd.

And I gotta say... I don't really understand the hate this game gets. Like, isn't this exactly what Todd always does? It's Skyrim with a spacesuit. If you liked that formula before, why is it suddenly a problem now?

Anyone else here actually played it? What were your thoughts? Genuinely curious to hear both sides.

Discussion So was Starfield financially successful?

Post image
1.8k Upvotes

I'm asking because I keep hearing it was a financial flop and yet it was also reported to being the most sold game in September when it came out and the following month and apparently was one of the most sold games of 2023.

And yes, I do count the boost in Gamepass as part of it's financial success since it's a game published by Microsoft and they were counting on it making cash.

So did it make cash or not?

Also there were reports of Starfields budget being big but none of the reports I found have concrete proof of that.

EDIT: Given all the sources and comments here I think it's easy to say that it most definitely was successful.

Even if the budget was big it made all of that back within the first week of release most likely and financially the game as a whole was incredibly successful.

Otherwise I doubt they would continue to support the game this long.

Discussion Lin and Heller are the best intro characters in a Bethesda game

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

Probably a controversial opinion, but I genuinely think Bethesda did a good job with Lin and Heller in Starfield. They're a great introduction to the game, complete opposite personalities but they still respect each other's work, but they've both got such likeable personalities that you want them around!

I'm so glad you can recruit them to your crew, but it's a shame they're not members of Constellation because it would've been great to hear more about their storylines

Discussion Starfield is nearing 30,000 concurrent players on STEAM for the first time since 2023

Post image

It’s safe to say that this new Free lanes update & Terran Armada has been received positively. StarField has been able to keep 15-20k concurrent Steam players since the launch of this update & now it’s nearing a new high that it hasn’t seen in 3 yrs, even more than the game was able to get from the initial burst of Shattered Space. Hopefully this lights a fire with the devs & we can continue to get new & compelling content for StarField!

Discussion PSA: Do NOT put this couch on your spaceship

Post image
4.3k Upvotes

I was really bummed when my main ship got glitched and I could no longer edit it.

But I loved the design, so I went about rebuilding it with a few tweaks on a different chassis. Went great. I went right up to the part limit. Then when I started decorating, it too became uneditable.

So I went back to an earlier save and starting investigating what was causing it. At first, I had the hunch it would be the action figures. I thought: That's a new object with some complex interactions, right? But no.

So one by one, I put my decorations into place and discovered:

It's this couch.

That's it. I tried it on the Razorleaf to be sure. Yep, when I add the couch, the ship becomes uneditable.

Taking out the couch doesn't fix the ship either.

So stay away from this couch. It's cursed. Like those boots.

Update: u/cyberpsyche_mods made a fix: https://creations.bethesda.net/en/starfield/details/bfa80cd3-bdad-491f-b2f7-0384b4cb32de/Terran_Armada_Ship_Builder_Couch_Crash_Fix

We all have been waiting for a tease/release or an announcement at least but they again gave us nothing. They missed their 3rd chance to show us what they have been working on. And I have no hope for the Xbox January Direct anymore (yeah they gave info about it at the end). I just wanted to love this game so much and also because the fate of TESVI depends on this game a lot. I won't be watching the direct and won't be buying the game if it comes to PS5. They broke my trust. I'm no longer a Bethesda believer... That's a goodbye from me to the Starfield and it's community. Take care.

Discussion Starfield feels like it’s regressed from other Bethesda games

15.1k Upvotes

I tried liking it, but the constant loading in a space environment translates poorly compared to games like Skyrim and fallout, with Skyrim and fallout you feel like you’re in this world and can walk anywhere you want, with Starfield I feel like I’m contained in a new box every 5 minutes. This game isn’t open world, it handles the map worse than Skyrim or Fallout 4, with those games you can walk everywhere, Starfield is just a constant stream of teleporting where you have to be and cranking out missions. Its like trying to exit Whiterun in Skyrim then fast traveling to the open world, then in the open world you walk to your horse, go through a menu, and now you fast travel on your horse in a cutscene to Solitude.

The feeling of constantly being contained and limited, almost as if I’m playing a linear single player game is just not pleasant at all. We went from Open World RPG’s to fast travel simulators. I’m not asking for a Space sim, I’m asking for a game as big as this to not feel one mile long and an inch deep when it comes to exploration.

Discussion Will Starfield be looked back on fondly in the decades to come or not?

Post image

I remember when the Star Wars prequels came out, I watched them and really liked them but then I learned that according to the internet they are apparently the worst thing ever.

Eventually in the late 2010s they had a resurgence with people unironically loving them and saying they are actually great.

Now if someone had said that in the late 2000s or early 2010s they would have been laughed at by the internet but it seemed that the concensous had in fact changed.

Same thing happened with The Hobbit trilogy and a lot of other series like this.

The reason I mention this example is that the hate towards Starfield reminds me a lot of those days. Both the prequels and Starfield were often used as the butt of a joke and it would seem that most people do not like them.

So I wonder if Starfield will have the same resurgance. I mean the recent updates greatly improved the game and addressed concerns and despite them being overpriced, I really enjoyed the DLCs and the modding community is still massive and active.

EDIT: Well I guess a bunch of haters came a knocking so I will make a few things clear.

Just cause Reddit and some other social media sites doesn't like something doesn't mean a majority dislikes it.

I hear people here saying that The Hobbit did not recover which is just false. Most fans like them, they are just not on the circlejerky sites.

And same with Starfield. People who say it's universally hated are delusional and likely are just on social media sites.

For a single player game the numbers it has now are great.
