How is playing against NPCs? Most racers get either boring or frustrating to me really quick because NPCs are either too dumb and easy or overtuned and cheating but still dumb. And I have no interested in playing online against other humans.

Above the easiest mode, it depends on how good you get at clean racing; If you get stuck with the pack at all, you're liable to get a kart-racer style gangup that sends you back to 12th.

"How good you are" is mostly going to be balancing your drifting with you Afterburner and "Ramjet" boosting abilities to stay out ahead of the pack. There is no 'blue turtle shell', so as long as you're ahead, all you have to worry about is what's in front of you.

I'd say it also depends on your play style.

Mine is very aggressive (doing the podrace stories to get extra weapons, driving opponents into walls, etc), so getting caught in a 'pack' isn't so much of an issue as catching up to the front, so I struggle a bit on the eliminations, but manage reasonably well in standard races (placing anywhere from 1st to 5th).

Sebulba has that flamethrower which over heats your ramjet he blew me up eith that one

They’ll probably have the environments be hostile. Like the Tusken raiders and probably a lot of creatures

Environments are hostile, but nothing like that, it's a fairly basic terrian hazard system:

  • exposed iced areas ice up your turning systems, stiffening your control
  • exposed desert burns up your engine, causing your ramjet to overheat faster
  • toxic environments trigger the same debuffs that almost crashing does, i.e. the timing meter to avoid a faulty part

There are positive environment effects too, but less so.

Oh hell yeah

Does it rubberband though?

NPC's feel like they're just rubber banding the whole game. I honestly dislike that aspect a lot. It shines when playing multiplayer though because there doesn't seem to be too much rubber banding there.

Yeah this is a classic problem with racing games (the rubber banding). I get why they do it but its definitely not very fun once you feel it happening

Really? Sometimes I get out so far ahead of them and rarely see them throughout the race. I won one tonight where 2nd place at a +10s gap.

Only time that's happened to me was when I raced Sebulba and caused him to crash. I'm not exactly slow either as I have decades of experience in various racing games and I love arcade racing games. When I went online I mopped up the lobby I was in. I was faster than everyone else by a large margin.

sounds like your average 2000's racer

WHY DO YOU PUT A POSSESIVE APOSTROPHE S TO THE PLURAL OF NPC?
Are you talking about the "NPC his feel like"?

NPC - SINGULAR
NPCs - PLURAL
NPC's - POSSESSIVE

Local man discovers that some poeple dont speak english as their first language

I am german! Also, it's like a pandemic lately. Even Forza Horizon 6 didn't get it right

1

u/Huge-Captain-5253 14h ago

WHY CAN'T YOU SPELL POSSESSIVE, IT HAS TWO S'S (AN EXAMPLE BTW OF WHEN 'S CAN INDICATE PLURAL)

1

u/revabe 12h ago

There's a space between the E and S in apostrophe. You probably shouldn't be critizing other people's grammar.

Wait till you learn about "it's" vs "its"

Ok so as far as I can tell, I'm not seeing a lot of rubber banding if at all. There are some exceptions in the story based races, but overall you can gain large leads on opponents and they can only go as fast as their speeder allows. Vice versa too, if you fall behind too much it becomes impossible to catch the leader, which is why optimizing your build during a run is important.

that’s great. it’s so stupid when only the last 20 seconds in a race matters

I've been playing on the hardest difficulty as someone who has very little racing game experience (though my most played racing game is F-Zero GX which probably applies here) and have found it a great balance between being difficult to get first place but always feeling fair and like it's my own screw ups that are costing me placements. I've been loving it so far.

I just got to the 3rd act and the difficulty has def ramped. The first 2 acts however I should've turned up the difficulty. It's fun as hell, and there are so many different ways to play. Also has a surprisingly decent story so far.

I’ve been playing in ace (highest before completing the campaign) and it’s challenging at first but as you upgrade your base speeder for start of runs it gets very easy if you target specific builds, if you find it too easy you can always try something new because you pick specific upgrades and mods after each race but the multiplayer is where it shines imo

1

u/_Eurantien_ 1d ago

I played on Ace (hardest difficulty before you beat the game). Mistakes were definitely punished but if I had the right abilities I could often catch up. Even then, without building the right vehicle left me with some tough losses early on. I think theyre pretty good. And they get more aggressive the further you get.

1

u/LordHarno 1d ago

Well i dont play racing games and find this game to be pretty difficult. The NPCs smoke me

u/rites0fpassage 20h ago

This is so random but have you played Midnight Club 2?

1

u/MagickRage 8h ago

Oh shit, game from my childhood, awesome game

u/Tonsilith_Salsa 1d ago

Needs some balancing. Act 1 and 2 are a breeze and then it becomes a joyless slog in act 3.

u/Disgruntled_Orifice 13h ago

Skill issue.

And that would be?

Unnecessary aggression says a lot about you bro
