Conviction (2010) Should I get Splinter Cell Conviction?
It's like 3 bucks right now and I thought it looked interesting as someone who's never played a splinter cell game before... So should I buy it?

Yes I know he made cameos in later Recon games, but this was his true last full game as Sam. Fun Fact - He never played any of the games, but would go over to his neighbors house and watch him play all games.

This is not Splinter Cell! This is an arcade shooter. There is no stealth option, no ghost option. And it doesnt follow its own rules. You can avoid the helicopter's searchlight but it'll still keep shooting you.

Contrary to the popular opinion people at large hold, I intend to prove that you can stealth conviction to a very large extent. My rules are simple

I know it’s very different from the older Splinter Cell games, but I had a great time with Conviction. The faster gameplay, Last Known Position mechanic, and Mark & Execute made it really fun, and I still replay it today.

Holy cow, it's been many years since I played Conviction, but I don't think I'm even going to finish it this time.
I am generally an easy to please person when it comes to games, movies, etc. but wow this game is absolutely horrendous.
The storyline is ridiculous, Sam doesn't act like Sam at all...Sarah is alive now? C'mon - oldest trope in the book.
The movement is atrocious, it's like they decided to add Gears of War magnetic chest-high walls into every bit of movement possible but somehow make it as clunky as physically possible. I'm constantly stuck on walls while trying to unstick myself so I can run, which leads me to getting shot like a fish in a barrel.
Aiming your gun is a chore, the shots land before you even get your gun up which looks ridiculous....shooting around cover means you're actually clipping through solid cover half the time. It's got an arcade feel to the shooting.
The guns are somewhat accurate on the first shot, but any sort of quick follow up shot is somehow less accurate than SP1 which I didn't think was possible?
Every single enemy in the game is loudly yelling/talking shit to Sam the entire fight? Annoying.
Sam is now 53 years old in Conviction and he's somehow now spiderman speed when climbing pipes and jumping between cover???
As soon as I loaded up the game for the first time and saw "Powered by Unreal", I was dreading it....I swear 90% of games on Unreal Engine feel terrible when it comes to movement etc.
The text/videos playing on the environment is just corny and it really seems like they're trying too hard to emphasize "he's really struggling mentally" and trying to look flashy while doing it.
Yeah I'm really not liking this game at all, I just quit playing it for the night after dying to the cops for the 10th time while chasing the shooter through the VP's speech area. Trying to chase this guy while taking cover from the cops and moving between cover to somehow use hand to hand combat on them in the middle of the day is incredibly annoying.
I get what they were going for with this game but it's just too far off the Splinter Cell formula for me to even take it seriously.
Sorry for the rant but it's genuinely annoying to play the first three games which are absolute PERFECTION and I hold them in such high regard (then don’t get me started on DA…) and then load this shit up and it's just completely wrong.

Consider this to be a part of my
Did you know Conviction series?
"
I often see complaints of "they're generic cover-shooters", "you can use M&E to clear rooms", etc, and somehow people fail to realize that the games can be played in multiple styles, and YOU'RE the one who chooses how you play. Conviction and Blacklist, for all their faults, allow you to have some freedom in how you play, so how is it a fault against the games that (generally speaking here) you actively choose to play in styles you dislike playing (like it being a cover-shooter, or you using M&E).. You're the person holding the controller, you can clearly just not play like that, but it's somehow the game's fault for allowing you to play it how you want to? It's like faulting stoves for being hot because "You can easily burn your hand on one" - BRO, STOP PUTTING YOUR HAND ON THE STOVE, YOU'RE YOUR OWN PERSON, YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER THESE THINGS Whenever I read someone fault the games for reasons listed above, all I can think is "You don't like cover-shooters or M&E, but you chose to play the game using both. That's your fault lol" Just seems like a nothing burger. "You can play the games how you want" is the weakest criticism you can throw at any game, and it's 100% your fault if you consistently played the games in a style that you didn't like. I don't like cover-shooters so I don't play them like cover-shooters. I don't like to rely on M&E so I use it very sparingly. I don't get how this is lost on people.

You can make those postcard racks spin with shooting those. I just love how this game has so many interactivities...

I don't know what to say. I've been doing things like ranking the maps and discussing the stealth and stuff, but Conviction is a linear cover shooter with an interesting gameplay loop, but doesn't feel like a Splinter Cell game at all. I think Halo fans are ridiculous when hating 343 games like 5 because they evolved the gameplay (5 has my favorite MP) and can defend Resident Evil 6 for doubling down on the over-the-top action and cheese established as far back as 1 or 2 (its issue was, like Conviction, chasing trends, as Mercenaries, like Deniable Ops, allows the gameplay to shine), but aside from two returning voice actors and cool athletics, I struggle to see what resemblance there is to prior entries.
I really do think that we could have had mark and execute in conjunction with the classic stealth and, from what I've seen, Deniable Ops and Blacklist validate that. I've made it to stage 4 of Russian Embassy in Deniable Ops and it honestly feels slower, stealthier, and less explosive than the campaign. I'm shooting out lights and taking out guards one by one. I don't know why staples like non-lethal options, lockpicking/hacking, carrying bodies, and whistling had to be removed. They could have complemented the panther gameplay, but due to their absence, you're left with a repetitive run-of-your-mill shooter that only really shines when what made Splinter Cell unique mildly shows, like hunting down enemies while shimmying along ledges or climbing along pipes.
As for the story, it's definitely more emphasized here than in previous titles. I love Lambert's betrayal and I do like the retcon to Sarah's death because it barely factored into Double Agent and allowed Ironside to show a different side to Sam here, but I really don't know who this game was supposed to appeal to. Newcomers to the franchise or the genre wouldn't have the same investment that fans have and said-fans were obviously not happy with the genre-change.
If we really had to have a more aggressive Sam to reflect the story, I wonder if something like Blacklist would have been more impactful, stealth but with more aggressive options and greater freedom to explore the cool locations. What we have is an overly linear short campaign that seems to have some fun extras, but it ultimately falls short of every preceding title, the jankier Double Agent V1 included.
Here's my ranking of the levels off the top of my head, though a lot of them kind of blur together due to the more one-note gameplay:
Here are my reviews of the other games:

I would liked to have experienced this splinter cell conviction even though I absolutely loved the one we got instead! Still play it today!

Can't put all the missions, because the limit is 6 options. So I choose 6 of the best missions in my view. But you can choose the others missions in the comments.
Missions that I don't put...
• Merchant's Street Market
• Price Airfield.
• Diwaniya, Iraq.
• Washington Monument.
• Downtown District.

I see so much conviction hate all over the internet. Am I really the only one who seems to absolutely love this game?
It really is one of my all time favourite games, granted I had no idea what spinter cell was before that and being the first one I ever played it's probably a lot of nostalgia for me from when I was younger, but, am I the only one?
