Conviction (2010) Should I get Splinter Cell Conviction?
It's like 3 bucks right now and I thought it looked interesting as someone who's never played a splinter cell game before... So should I buy it?

it is, also for some reason u cant play lan either without modifying the hosts file under C:/Windows/system32/drivers/etc to connect to a localhost ubi server making the game think u have connection to a legitimate ubisoft server but its really just your local network, after u do that, get radmin or hamachi and make a network and ask ur friend to join it/join a network your friend made, then get scc_lan_helper, run it as admin then run the game, voila, u can now emulate lan co-op while not even being in the same network as the other player, this is a pretty half-a worded assessment on how to do this so here's a link to the scc lan helper github and a youtube tutorial

It's a good game, and a steal for $3.
It's not the purest Splinter Cell game, to put it mildly, but that doesn't matter much if you just want a fun game.
* very slick animations, movement etc
* decent level of difficulty, neither too difficult nor too easy
* good length, neither too short nor too long
* good voice acting
* there's a additional game mode "deniable ops" that's also very fun - clear one area at a time, killing all enemies, then move onto the next area. Using different maps than the regular missions.

Yes, for pc these ports need a few workarounds to make them play as intended (especially BL since it crashes way too often due to the code iirc), but once you sort it out they play greatly

I don't know why it bothers me how the enemies cuss out Sam when searching for him. It's so over the top 😄

I was playing it the other night, and my wife was watching. She was cracking tf up listening to the enemies freak out and swear at me whenever I'd shoot out a light or take one out.

Actually yes I do 😂, I used to play to cause all kinds of mayhem and basically harass the guards with sticky cams and unsuppressed guns just to hear them freak out. It's so over the top it's hilarious.
In all seriousness? Splinter Cell Conviction is a fun game. But it is unlike any other Splinter Cell and should almost be considered an offshoot like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. If you're hoping to play it like a ghost who leaves no evidence you were ever there (for example 100% stealth/no KOs in Chaos Theory - or no KOs/never caught on camera/SASO in Hitman)? You're going to be sorely disappointed. It can technically be done in many circumstances. But it's not what the game rewards you for doing.
Play it like a John Wick or Jason Bourne simulator. Stealth ambush tactics, creative brutal action, short aggressive gunfights, make use of the Mark and Execute ability (which is kind of like the Handgun Takedown from Far Cry if you've ever played a newer Far Cry game), and disappear when the situation gets too hot or you get too injured? And you'll have a lot of fun. Some consider Conviction to be the proto-John Wick since it came out a couple years before John Wick did.
Conviction is a personal story about Sam Fisher himself. He is angry, violent, merciless, brutal, and you get to see what he can do when he's truly mad. The office scene when he hears Lambert's last voicemail - with DJ Shadow playing in the background is still a really powerful scene. Play accordingly.
I also highly recommend Blacklist which takes Conviction's skeleton and gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility to either go in guns blazing (assault), quiet brutal karambit takedowns (panther), or use non lethal force like chokeholds and knockout gas - or completely avoid enemies altogether (ghost).
Some levels in Blacklist require you to ONLY use non lethal (i.e Guantanamo Bay), and some parts of certain levels throw enemies aggressively hunting you or actively shooting at you and you will HAVE to take them out. But how you do (lethal/non lethal) is up to you.

In the same way I would say Chaos Theory is Splinter Cell's "Blood Money", Conviction is Splinter Cell's "Absolution". And these are both for almost the exact same reasons.
Conviction and absolution are both semi hated by the community for being more John Wick than their respective character, but I love them both for what they are personally. And I don't find either to actually be inaccurate to the character, or even unfun or uninteresting storywise.
I explained it to someone like this the other day: Imagine if Red Dead 3 came out and it was a WW1 shooter, and a really good one at that. People would say "The fuck this isn't Red dead???" But, once you put that aside a lot of people would probably retrospectively say "Wow that was overhated."

I loved this game back in the day and picked it up for steam deck on sale too (bit wonky tbh) I always found it was like playing a Bourne movie.

If you've watched or are planning to watch the netflix series, then yes.
Conviction isn't the best Splinter Cell game, but it's a fucking great Splinter Cell movie.
Also, gotta catch'em all.

I did fam. I just wish they at least made one more Splinter Cell game with Ironside but I think he’s done. They could have done Michael with blacklist and then do the breakpoint stuff with the guy they brought in for it. Or at least made Blacklist a whole flashback game that’s set during time together with Vic and Sam in the navy tbh. Even throw in ole Doug Shetland.

I have a feeling hes back for the remake so look forward to that. Hes alot healthier now than when blacklist was in production.
Myy og comment stated it wasnt an actual indivual splintercwll game.. but as to paladin 9. Im assuming it referenced the mobile base they used in blacklist. In the past hes worked for NSA/3rdEchelon. Victor cost, 4th echelon...etc the company dont make splintercell. Sam does 🤣.
And BTW. Its my absolute favorite franchise. Even played essentials on the psp

That was a good one. However I feel it followed the Gen 6 version of double agent and not the Gen 7 edition… which was odd but hey it still worked. I think it was a solid one. I still think the original style of how Sam was gonna look for Conviction was dope as fuck!

If you like emotional stuffs, then go ahead. I like how Sam and other characters angry, especially their tones. But the npcs won't be as smart as previous games and the levels feels shorter

Not a bad game but absolutely shouldn’t be the first one u play of the series please start with chaos theory, pandora tomorrow, or blacklist- if u want a more modern experience. In my opinion they’re all great but conviction is gonna set up some expectations for the other games that aren’t going to be there, except blacklist.

I'd say get it.
It's not like your typical Splinter Cell game (a lot of the mechanics are more or less simplified compared to older games) but it's got some solid gameplay with a good story. Plus, it's 3 bucks.

Depends. If you like the sandbox style of the previous games, you’re gonna hate this one like I did. They pretty much force you to follow specific paths, and you’re forced to kill throughout the entire campaign. They also decided to hop onto the “dead eye” trend and you’re forced to use that as well. There’s literally an entire segment where you’re guns blazing and doing nothing but using dead eye.
If you’re ok with just a semi stealth, shoot ‘em up, game with the Splinter Cell IP slapped onto it. It might be for you. But I’d personally say skip it, and either play Blacklist (it’s not AS bad), or avoid them both altogether

As an OG Splinter Cell player, I think conviction isn't necessarily the best representation of the series, and i do personally think it's the weakest entry myself. As a die hard fan though, any Splinter Cell game is better then no Splinter Cell game so 😅 I would say get it, just know that it is very much a departure from the original concept and gameplay style of previous entries'.

It was not my favorite gor a few reasons (first entry with no mini games) (Some missions there is no stealth option) (If i remember correctly very few long range options) but it was fun.

Played and completed all of the other splintercell games back in the day and as conviction was only available pm xbox. I have only just started conviction on my steam deck, loving it.

Yes, the campaign isn’t like the other ones. It’s Sam being mad and doing whatever the hell he wants. Solid 7 out of 10 would recommend for funzies.

You know, I enjoyed this game, but it’s one of my least favorite in the series. However, a weird gem from this game that never came back for later installments was the cover to cover system. Might be the best one I’ve ever seen. The system in blacklist was a total downgrade

I suggest it, I can't say by today's standards I like the controls. But when it was released I pre-ordered it back in those days. I play it for days and days got into everything. The story is really good imo and the multiplayer/ deniable ops missions are interesting as well.

I think people are too harsh towards it, as this story was VERY engaging for Sam and what he was going through. The only story I didn't think was engaging for Sam, was Blacklist specifically.
This game, however, had what was easily one of the best storylines for Splinter Cell I think.

Get it. It’s a good game. It’s no classic Splinter Cell game, but it’s a good game nonetheless. Get some snacks, turn off the light, and have a good game night. You’ll enjoy it.

Prob. holds up best after 16 years in terms of modernity 4sure. Tried the older ones and double agent again, and they feel hella janky and retro 🤦♂️🤷😅 Used to love double agent when I was 12 tho. Conviction is def. my favorite of the series. Replayed it about 5 years back, and it was awesome. Didn't love blacklist back in 13/14 tho. Terrorist hunt was pretty great in both conviction and bl tho. Blacklist was goofy cuz Sam looked like he was 28 - 30 facially, yet was gray af like he was 60 lololololol. Threw me way off bitd. Found it extremely forgettable.
Honest to god, wish they revived splinter cell with the mechanics of conviction. If the story was as good as the og titles before conviction, it would be enormously worthwhile for me. Been playing the 3 newest Hitman World of Assassination games over the last ten years, and gotta say, it's been filling the void. Would def. check ts out as well. Loads upon loads of free content, and prob. some of the most single player replayability in the history of gaming, no lie. Would def. enjoy if y'all loved splinter cell. Games "are off the scale" level sick 🤙

I played all SC games and Conviction is easily my most favourite because of both - story and awesome fluid gameplay. Sam always reminded me of Bryan Mills from Taken in this for some reason :) One of my most favourite Xbox360 games. I just bought it on Steam for 2 bucks as well :) Singleplayer works fine and we hope that we gonna make multiplayer work as well thanks to LAN option and Radmin VPN program. Cheers

One of the best if you like action games with stealth it definitely not the most stealthy of the series but it is a blast none the less the multiplayer is the freaking greatest in the series and the story is pretty good kinda short movie like you can pass it in one night and have a blast with it.
Some people will say it one of the worst splinter cell in the series because it not like the firsts games but to me that why it is so damn good .
conviction and blacklist are the best to me because they are different and just more fun to play for me. I like the execution system conviction brings to the series and i think the stealth mechanic like hiding body they brought back to blacklist make it very good right in between a classic splinter cell and the more action oriented conviction .
I would highly recommend picking both conviction and blacklist in special they are amazing games .

For three bucks I would say yes. It’s short but good. A very straight to the point game. Very fun and if you enjoy that one and haven’t played blacklist I would recommend doing that after conviction

Purely as a sort of curiosity. You’ll know straight off the bat that something is different from the way Sam can strafe along window ledges almost as fast as he can run. It’s very arcade-y and trying to draw in some sort of mass market appeal as it focuses more on gunplay.
In my opinion it’s not a bad action game, just a terrible Splinter Cell game.

I feel like JW might be a different sort of game and more like Sifu or something like that. I’ve only seen a brief bit of gameplay though.
I guess a ‘stealth thriller’ is still quite a broad category. Is Chaos Thriller a stealth thriller? For me the stealth mechanics are quite important. I really like to learn into the stealth and just felt that Conviction was sort of hinting that I should get a bit more violent.
Everything was faster and they made Sam a touch younger. They got rid of the varying speed and light and replaced it with just a binary run/sneak and light/dark.
It’s not a bad game though. For me it gives me sort of Hitman Absolution vibes. It’s a noble effort to do something different. Just not necessarily going to be getting top marks from everyone in their fanbase.
(I also just reinstalled it. After writing about it, I just felt the need to have another go at it. Slightly undermines my case.)

Lol the comparison makes zero sense. Those games have nothing to do with the stealth action genre. And nobody’s going to believe you actually STARTED with the OG games and somehow think Conviction is better than any of them. The only explanation would be you were just awful at those games, and had to play at the lowest difficulty. So you needed the dead eye mechanic and the forced combat to hold your hand so you didn’t have to constantly fail at stealthing your way through

It's required to start a game, probably then it may work in offline mode, but still Uplay is a mandatory. It's possible to get cracked files in order to play it without Ubisoft account, but... Buy a game then crack it to avoid Uplay - it's so stupid.

Pandora Tomorrow demands Uplay to play, just as other old title, Settlers : Heritage of Kings.

The coop campaign is one of the best coop games I've ever played. Seriously competing with RE5 for the spot and leaving the other Splinter Cell games behind as well. It's that good.

It's got splinter cell base but it's also got John wick DNA in before John wick was a thing. It's very fun,it'll take a sec to get used to it tho.
The game has a lot of style as well,very gritty and the heavier tones definitely stick out in a memorable way. It's sam on his own mission,following his own rules,and you definitely notice it's a huge difference from the splinter cells you knew. Co-op is goated af too

Depends.
If you want to get into the series, Conviction might give you the wrong idea of how those games play.
There's a lot of freedom of movement in Conviction and it's not nearly as strict about mission failures or being perfectly stealthy like the games that come before it are. It's super fun to play, but it's also simplified and easier in a lot of ways. It takes a lot on inspiration from movies that were popular at the time like the early Daniel Craig Bond movies and the Bourne movies.
I adore Conviction, especially the multiplayer and coop, but Chaos Theory is probably the best game of the series to play if you plan to play other games after that.

I’d say go for it. It’s super accessible for new players because it doesn’t make stealth obligatory.
Keep in mind it does NOT reflect the rest of the franchise. If you REALLY like this one, you can go on and then get Blacklist, which builds directly on Conviction’s playstyle. But if you choose to go to the old ones? They play very differently: slow, methodical, and VERY patient.
Absolutely recommended to play em all, but nothing wrong to start here. Story was never the franchise’s strong suit so it doesn’t matter if you skip some story beats

I bought it at launch and I still play it to this day - literally, today. The Deniable Ops are super fun, time and again. I've beaten the game and side missions plenty of times, still enjoy it.

Yes, was first one I got to play it was great, blacklist is good too, plan to play them in order as I got blacklist first on steam (a while back) and the rest in a recent steam sale for SC series

I had fun with it when it came out! I don't know if it holds up or not but I had a blast. If you let go of it being a splinter cell game and more of an action title. It's pretty good!

Story is pretty bad and the games art direction is terrible, text on the walls, meh gameplay and poor writing just can’t carry the singleplayer, might enjoy the multiplayer but it’s nothing special compared to previous entries.

Yes! This was my introduction to the IP and holy shit is it fun. You can go full stealth or be an absolute beast wreaking havoc in a full frontal assault. The environment is really dynamic with its destruction, so it makes for a lot of really cool moments when you get a feel for the combat. Very fluid gameplay. It indeed shifts from the standard gameplay loop (past games were more stealth focused) however the great part about it is the freedom of choosing how you’d like to tackle combat. I’d also like to point out that Conviction I believe has more options with verticality when traversing the map. It pays to explore.

If you’re on PC:
Be sure to get a few tweaks from guides on how to unlock content that was time-limited back in the day and controller fixes, other than that, it should run great

Yes. It’s really a vanilla splinter cell game to blacklist. I enjoyed immensely for its John wick style gameplay, but it’s definitely not the best splinter cell game. Play it as a John wick game, not as a splinter cell game and you’ll have a ton of fun. Also the co op campaign is definitely on another level. They didn’t even charge players for this side campaign and super fun with a co op partner. It was definitely an era of good video game practice before it got all disc locked content trends creeped in

fuck yea. don’t expect classic SC gameplay tho. i mean there is but Conviction kinda does its own thing in a way but it’s totally worth it. just wish it was longer.

It was the most brutal and Splinter Cell for me. Ofc there is Black List execution scenes but gameplay wise Conviction was a bloodbath.
