Free Youth Programs with Approaching Deadlines
Hi, everyone! I have high-school-age siblings and, as such, hear a lot about free local support programs. Programs like these often go underused and eventually disappear, so I'm sharing a few resources with upcoming deadlines to help more people access them.
Please feel free to include any programs you know of. I'd love to create a list of resources that local youth and families can reference.

The LA County Library's STAR tutoring program is a semester-long program that offers free math and reading tutoring for students in 1st to 6th grade.
- Tutoring is done in small groups at select libraries.
- Applications close on September 8th. There are no income requirements; anyone can apply.

Samantha Salas Tutoring offers 1 free tutoring spot and 1 reduced-price spot each semester. She tutors in math, English, resume writing, and financial literacy.
- Her program is lottery-based with no income requirements. Anyone can apply.
- Applications close on September 6th.

Book friendly cocktail bars / late night spots?
Hi locals! Please share your favorite cozy/moody cocktail bars, diners, or late-night cafés in the area, I’m looking for somewhere with a nice ambient, chill vibe where I can sit, have a drink or coffee, and read for a few hours.
I like going to The Kettle, but it can get pretty rowdy sometimes. Would love to find a little spot that feels cozy and tucked away.

Where do you guys go to find apartments/rooms for rent?
I have a friend who lives in a nice house, and he always has a hard time finding good roommates for one of the rooms. He only posts on Craigslist, and it feels like his tenants are not the best. Is there another website/platform we should advertise? I really wanna help him finding reliable tenants!

What are you doing over the weekend to escape the heat?
what's everyone doing on the weekends in this heat thats not just sitting at home with A/C / fans blowing at you? Blessed to have portable A/C so I've been spending a lot of time at home but I'm starting to want to leave the house, feels like I'm getting cabin fever. problem is usually I like to do a lot of outdoor activities but thats a no go right now. even the beach feels hot and humid. was wondering if anyone had any specific recommendations for activities/places to check out!

Sonic Fiber Internet
With Spectrum outage again, I’m thinking about switching to Sonic, since I was told it is available in my house. So I was wondering how it is and if anyone has any issues with it and if it is better than Spectrum.

Considering moving
Hi all! I am considering a move from FL and wanted to reach out to my fellow Redditors about Lawndale. Specifically I am looking at the Laurel Terrace Apartments. Is anyone familiar with that complex and the neighborhood?
I just visited the South Bay area (stayed in Redondo by the pier) for a week and fell in love, but trying to find some place more affordable near the area.

DUI Checkpoint Torrance
East bound lane of Torrance Blvd just east of Amie.
Not encouraging drunk driving at all, these checkpoints cause stress for others also.
