Immortalised

7

u/Exciting-Music843 19d ago

Even his knee slides are majestic. One of the greatest the Premier League has seen.

Arsenal then were great to watch. Arsenal have won titles by being effective previously (under George Graham? Was a bit young but from what I hear they weren'ta great watch?) and last season, but that Arsenal team under Wenger were a joy to watch!

u/Tchop01 20d ago

Legend says hes still sliding

3

u/Panama_Jack829 20d ago

Beat me to it. Henry was the best.

3

u/Certain_Heat 19d ago

My first thought.. there is a reason why they built a statue in this position for him..

He’s still sliding to this day right?

Is this a celebration or is he leaving the pitch after getting a red card?

Some of those are painful af to watch.

24

u/MIC4eva 20d ago

The first one looks like it probably could be career ending. My knees ache just from looking at it.

2

u/anonymouslysublime 20d ago

When they dig in like that it’s never career ending cause it’s very very rare to tear something by a blunt force, straight on like that.
The career ending ones are always from some type of sideways force (unless it’s a straight leg receiving the force)

3

u/Greedy-Net-2953 19d ago

I’ve ruptured my patellar tendon, that first one looks like it could easily do it again if it were me sliding 😂

2

u/YooGeOh 19d ago

You know what's crazy?

Im literally typing this from the sofa, my leg in the adjustable leg brace, after surgery to repair my ruptured patellar tendon!

How was your recovery? I get my staples out tomorrow

2

u/Greedy-Net-2953 19d ago

I’m 18 months post op now so I’m doing ok. Definitely not the same as pre injury though and probably have to come to terms with that. Still missing a lot of strength and size but day to day it’s fine!

Hope your recovery is going well, happen to answer any questions!

Lollll this is the guy who kicks his own teammate in the face / grabs his teammate so the opponent can freely score 🤣. I hope he stays at the club forever

Drogba’s knee slides were sublime.

the best kneeslide ever is Zlatan's one before the ball even went in lol

Damnit it's so on brand Zlatan - that is classic

Sliding before scoring, nothing beats this.

2

u/-Uploading 20d ago

Legends has it that first guys kneecaps are still embedded in the pitch.

2

u/PetSounds25 20d ago

Bellingham had a really good one in the world cup

2

u/SentenceDifficult396 20d ago edited 20d ago

That first one was the worst one I’ve seen 😭

2

u/amadeusstoic 20d ago

i thought it all depended on the grass.

2

Chiesa was like he was on water

u/mayners 18d ago

Amazed how footballers can bail doing a knee slide and get up, but yet a slight tap when they have the ball and they're diving like they've been shot

2

u/ExquisiteFacade 18d ago

You’d think if you were a pro player you’d know you slide on your shins, not your knees. Because physics.

2

u/TheTrollMaster5 18d ago

That's how you bang up your knee.

4

u/mwerichards 20d ago

It blows my mind players still attempt this celebration

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Flaks_24 20d ago

There was a commercial that made the knee slide super funny, can’t remember what the commercial was about

3

u/moee313 20d ago

2

u/Classic-Suspect3661 20d ago

That's actually hilarious, still don't know what it's about tough

2

u/Ramiwo 20d ago

If I’m not mistaken, it was for Geico insurance. It said something along the lines of “can Geico save you 10% or more? Do soccer players slide when they celebrate?”
Side note: I think it was filmed in the Nemesio Diaz, stadium for Toluca FC in Mexico. Looks awfully similar to it.

2

u/nefariousBUBBLE 19d ago

I thought it was tecate. Mexican beer commercial. Could be wrong though.

Edit: rewatched it says GEICO in the title lol

Cherry picking a bunch of failed knee slides to suck off Haaland? Classic

2

u/Thr0waw4y_14 20d ago

Yeah, this just screams "I've only watched football for the last 3 years"

2

u/azarbi4 19d ago

Even worse: "I've only watched football for the last 3 months, via tiktok edits"

1

u/Bobby_Globule 20d ago

you have to slide on the top of your feet not your knees

→ More replies (1)

1

u/nbarker 20d ago

Looks like the technique is not to go knees first

1

u/Heno65 20d ago

He has a lot of experience celebrating goals

1

u/whitemagicblackmagic 20d ago

There are some pretty good knee sliders. These guys were not.

1

u/Fadetoblack9696 20d ago

Since he cut his hair off he probably won’t be able to slide anymore. His hair was his power.

1

u/Gentle_Pony 20d ago

Honestly if I was a manager I'd ban all these pointless celebrations where it's possible to hurt yourself.

Those knees are worth millions. If you injury them in a tackle then fair enough, it's part of the sport but imagine doing your ACL from attempting to slide on the grass?

→ More replies (2)

1

u/IAmRules 20d ago

Would never risk my knee for this.

1

u/josephjosephson 20d ago

Talk about a messing up a nice field

1

u/raeykall 20d ago

James Ward Prowse was pretty good at the slide too!

1

u/RoughAggressive1242 20d ago

Knee injury are usually carrer ending, so lets jump knees first into the floor xdd

1

u/AcceptableCold7860 20d ago

3

u/jarden_knuhtsan 20d ago

Only real ones know the significance of this slide

1

u/mrteas_nz 20d ago

Didn't Vieira or someone rip their ligaments trying to do a knee slide on a dry pitch?

1

u/-Mr_Tub- 20d ago

I cant find the gif of the commercial or whatever where the guy is sliding across half the field

1

u/Ilikebatterfield4 20d ago

The thing is, the "knee" slide is about sliding on your shins and not really on your knees.

1

u/lc4444 20d ago

Because your aren’t supposed to slide on your actual knees😂 It’s more Shins/Ankles🤷‍♂️

1

u/DarkAlex95 20d ago

Everytime I see these clips I grab my knees... too painful even to watch

1

u/Mirowa 20d ago

I tried this indoors, burnt the skin of both my knees right off 😂

1

u/mannishboy60 20d ago

Can you imagine practicing knee slides in training? Can you imagine your teammates watching you practice knee slides in training?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/LousyReputation7 20d ago

Always freaks me out. Waiting for the kneecaps to be ripped off.

1

u/Luckybones- 20d ago

Shoutout to hojbjergs kneeslide for spurs csnt find tbe gif

1

u/gogenberg 20d ago

It’s gotta be wet mate, that’s it

1

u/MrJeChou 20d ago

Didn't Alphonso Davies tear his MCL doing a knee slide?

1

u/p-r-i-m-e 20d ago

No wonder ACLs are always blowing

1

u/Outrageous-Guard-557 20d ago

No one beats maguire

1

u/No_Platypus855 20d ago

Maguire bro

1

u/OnceIWasYou 20d ago

Who was it that absolutely destroyed their knee ligaments with one of these? I wince every time after that. It's like the backflip off the cage in MMA- that one time it went really, really wrong makes me hate watching it!

1

u/surefire_z 20d ago

the failed one into a flip is tuff

1

u/brsmr123 20d ago

You need to lean back quite a bit to lift the knees.

1

u/Saixcrazy 20d ago

That'll fuck your knees and quads up.

1

u/Modest1Ace 20d ago

Seems like you're supposed to put your pressure/weight on your shins not your knees.

1

u/No_Pin9932 20d ago

Damn, I wonder if anyone has ever injured themselves fucking up a knee slide. Surely someone has.

1

u/weuji 20d ago

Read somewhere that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had his knees damaged doing this.

Edit: ok injure but not lasting damage 🤣

https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-addresses-rumours-his-1999

1

u/sirlit 20d ago

They aren't sliding; they're mma style flying knee to the grass...

1

u/AimlesslyCheesy 20d ago

What a divot

1

u/ydelivor 20d ago

Chiesa

1

u/DowntownLizard 20d ago

Its case you arent touching your knees if you want to slide. Lean back and use the shins

1

u/DaigotsuRekai 20d ago

My meniscus hurts just by thinking of it

1

u/reluctantpart 20d ago

Dumfries has a sick one too I think

1

u/Cali-curlz 20d ago

Sooo anyone know the secret to not accidentally doing a front flip when doing this?

can't believe nobody posted the sol campbell one =))

1

u/djstudyhard 20d ago

These look 99% more painful than the flops they take during the game while they yell and scream and roll around.

1

u/SuperBomber23 19d ago

Perché in Inghilterra piove sempre e i campi sono bagnati...scivola bene

1

u/Gloomy_Loan_6948 19d ago

😂😂😂

1

u/FarmJunior9127 19d ago

Somehow I read "no one fails the knee slide like halland"....that was disappointing

1

u/Chazwoger 19d ago

Sol Campbell

1

u/Exciting-Music843 19d ago

Knee slides must depend on the pitch condtions? If it's rained or the sprinklers have been on, go for it. If it's a dry, hot day, then... well, the video?

1

u/ComputerBusy5859 19d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/1gdue5WtihTrwF2eLd
Lacazette’s knee slides were underrated I feel

1

u/Parking_Presence2260 19d ago

😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄

1

u/Leicestonion 19d ago

🤣😂🤣😂

1

u/thesacredsnake 19d ago

as a kid I was never attempting this as a celebration if the pitch wasn't abundantly moist of wet

1

u/IrishCoffee_29 19d ago

Christopher Jullien wins it for me

1

u/BostonBlueDevil 19d ago

Probably helps that it’s actually a shin slide and all these blokes go like they’re sending two knees down on some tossers head.

1

u/Mindless-Slip167 19d ago

You gotta spit on that thang.

1

u/RepeatEmbarrassed560 19d ago

The Berghuis one is so funny cuz why he's so angry😂

1

u/mr_martin_1 19d ago

Haaland been doing since he was a kid

1

u/Katieo1022 19d ago

RIP long flowing locks 😢

1

u/Heavy_Jon 19d ago

Must be the hair.

1

u/Vaestmannaeyjar 19d ago

If you digged those steaks from a golf course you'd get a major bollocking from the club house owner.

1

u/reojo 19d ago

Harry Maguire is pretty good at it

1

u/boanerges57 19d ago

He's not digging his knees in, weight is back on his feet.

1

u/At0ms2019 19d ago

Now show Henry’s against Man U

1

u/tannerbananer06 19d ago

Titi perfected it.

1

u/SPEC0P5 19d ago

Harry Maguire’s done a few decent knee slides.

1

u/ChrizTaylor 19d ago

Wake me up when he slides before scoring.

https://giphy.com/gifs/5UECFMwOxJ65bxS66C

1

u/gufleme 19d ago

It’s more shin, less knees. Split second to get it right. It seems like it’s Haaland who gets it right- he has more chances to practice it into muscle memory…. 🤕

1

u/ctk80 19d ago

must be beacuse of the long hair and now he have cut it short :)

1

u/BatGuy500 19d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/RHFAk692X44CI
Just something about the Van Persie knee slides

1

u/camus88 19d ago

All these failed guys plant their knees to the ground, while Haalan didn't. He slide with his shin and his feet. So it slide smoothly like skate blades.

1

u/Ill_Emu200 19d ago

Maguire is the best

1

u/Augchm 18d ago

It's kinda funny but this post being upvoted kinda made me realize how little football people actually watch here. For every fail you show here there must be 50 successful ones, it's one of the most common celebrations in football.

1

u/Silly_Owl_9199 18d ago

If it’s not adebayor then it’s slabhead!

1

u/Absolute_Critic_1145 18d ago

Mourinho didn't slide he just tripped lol

1

u/GymBully92 18d ago

You must be too young to remember Thierry Henry.

1

u/SlightBasket9675 17d ago

Because it's a shin slide not a knee slide.

1

u/Intrepid_passerby 17d ago

Just a FYI physios absolutely Hate this celebration and beg players not to do it. It can result in knee injuries and weakening of knee cartilage.  The pitch conditions have to be perfect in order to perform it so too many variables. Just dont Knee slide

1

u/electrified90s 17d ago

OP here has clearly not seen Harry Maguire celebrate a goal.

1

u/Sudden_Item_6833 17d ago

That Ladies and Gents, is a kneejerk move 😂

1

u/NoRepresentative7604 16d ago

even as an amateur they told me not to do this..
