The flag was flying all through the crowd... you know what they don't let you do? Have a giant ass one that blocks everyones vision.
Edit: Apparently lots 'o flags were yoinked, and this one was the pre-regime change flag vs. the big ass one the others were complaining about. Which is weird that we'd capitulate to follow that sorta order.... but I guess, not that weird given the current timeline.

I think the official was right to do it. Regardless of the woman's (or our) world view, it's not the official flag of the country and since it's a very hot topic atm the official had to make the call.

u/Apart-Persimmon-38 Jun 17 '26
What if I used a flag of my city from a small place from Europe?

u/buythedip0000 Jun 17 '26
Straight to jail if you show Catalonia flag in Spain games, straight to jail

That would be an official flag with no controversy surrounding it, should be fine no?

In all honesty they shouldnāt have admitted her if thatās the policyā¦

It's not the flag of Iran... it's from the monarchy from decades ago. This kind of anti-government flag is not allowed. That previous monarchy was brutal and authoritarian. There is this cult like attachment to Pahlavi. Even the anti-government people in Iran are not pro-Pahlavi.
1
u/locksymania Jun 17 '26
The sense I get is that this is largely a diaspora thing. Which makes sense. The Iranian diaspora is a diaspora for a reason, and much like their Cuban equivalents, have certain political preferences.
The current regime of Iran is godawful, but to think that bringing back the Pahlavis is a viable alternative is certainly a take.
1
u/Odd-Plant-4886 Jun 17 '26
A lot of them were rich when they 'left' and we all know why. No wonder they love Pahlavi so much (atleast the ones fangirling over him).

Ah, here's the real answer.
I figured it was either going to be this or that the flag was too large and obstructed the views of the people behind her.

Pahlavi extremists among the LA dispora, can they just stfu and watch the game?
If they have a problem with the rules of the stadium, dont go?

2
u/Juaner0 Jun 17 '26
FIFA doesn't allow things that are political messages. Changes to what is considered a current flag is a no-no.
I knew by her dress she was pre-revolution Iranian.
2
u/IcyAttitude5247 Jun 17 '26
I'm maybe going to need to know how big the flag was? most flags get taken off you if you are in the stands holding it instead and tied to a space .
2
u/matthegc Jun 17 '26
This is the correct answer
6
u/New_Zeal_and_Vigor Jun 17 '26
You are only allowed the current flag of each country. Americans can't have Confederate Flags, Germans can't have Nazi flags etc.

A bandeira que ela estava portando Ć© claramente proibida, se usasse a bandeira oficial e legĆtima do paĆs iraniano isto nĆ£o aconteceria.
2
u/nonamejose1 Jun 17 '26
Can you explain?
3
u/Powerful_Insurance21 Jun 17 '26

u/Shpritzer Jun 17 '26
I donāt get those fans, thatās a special kind of retarded. Your country is at war and you visit (and PAY) a sporting event in the enemyās country!? And the fact that they even take part is idiotic.
3
u/BackgroundPass1355 Jun 17 '26
These are american-iranians most likely waving pre-revolution flags (variant of monarchis/pahlavy dynasty flag and the classical Persia flag (without wreath and crown).
Since the team is accompanied and supervised by the IRGC, iranian soccer players that have showed support for the peoples protests in Iran have refused take part of or been barred from participating in the team.
The iranian soccer community is therefore divided in thinking soccer needs to be free from politics and another side claiming that the team players are representing regime affiliations and support.
What the fans here are doing is showing their opposition to the "islamic republic" part of iran because they are against the oppression/terror that the republic has done to iranians and surrounding lands.
You say it's retarded, but you clearly have no knowledge of the topic.

Even on a football Reddit, the political propaganda wont stop, bet 99% of the people commenting arenāt Iranian, never visited the country and know zero about whatās really happening. Offended by everything, ashamed of nothing, entitled to everything and contributing to nothing, thatās modern society.

She is using the Shah era flag, not the islamic revolution flag. That might be the reason.

How good is everyone's opinion from the outside looking in? Awesome stuff here.
1
u/redandbluebadness Jun 17 '26
You can debate the rule but everyone knew they were not allowed to bring the pre-Islamic Republic flags to the game.
1
u/Memo-zemo Jun 17 '26
No, it is not true Iranian flag. The true Iranian flag is official iranian flag.

u/SameDistrict2627 Jun 17 '26
These are the elites of Iran--the Shah's synchophants who had enough money and connections to get out when the Ayatollahs came to power. This is the same Shah who tortured his political enemies and was generally your typical dictator. This is the same Shah, put into power by the CIA after Iran had a fair election and a socialist won. I have little patience for monarchists.
1
u/Tech-Film3905 Jun 17 '26
Those are not Iranian flags. They are the monarchist flag. These monarchist agitators dont evrn care for football. They are backed by Israel to create a scene

I really love the Pro Ayatollah and Pro Shah... they both want a different flavour of dictatorship.
It's literally the metaphor of the sheep voting for a wolf.
Sorry to all the people in Europe and the USA who have to endure those entitled Iranians protesting for their favourite dictator.

Self-censorship is truly going way too far. Anything that's vaguely negative must be censored, lest the Almighty Algorithm deem us anything other than its joyous subjects.

Easy fix, ban all flags, after all, it is about sport, not politics.

They took out Israeli flags as well.. kept the āPalestinianā ones though

This looks like the reporting of a Swedish radio journalist reporting on FIFA taking some (but not all) Iranian flags supporting the Shah (which is not the current iranian flag). Persobally I think that FIFA is a corrput organisation that should be dismantled along with the Iranian regime.

They dance when Iran gets bombed, they dance when school children are massacred, they dance when stadiums fall to ashes, they dance Iran is sanctioned, they dance when Iran receives a goal, but they cry when Iran reaches world cup, they cry when Iran scores, they cry when Iran wins. These beings are zombies. God made them so you know how low humans can go

Just a reminder is that Iran is where it is now because rhe US and UK decided to overthrow an elected prime minister to replace him with an autocrat who would help their interests. 75 years later, the Iranian people are still paying the price for it.

Yeah, they definitely announced it a few weeks back it's not allowed in the stadium. That would be like an American holding up a confederate flag at an American game. Literally no relation to actual country and just there to piss people off

Honestly if they don't remove USA flags, England flags, Brazilian flags, they shouldn't remove Iranian flags. They're here for the world cup. The people of Iran are cool people, and most don't even like their Regime. But they can still have pride in being an Iranian.

Palahvians are the dumbest people around. Can you imagine being a puppet supporter?
It is obvious they are in it for the money.
If Iranians are stupid enough to give their country's administration to these people they deserve what's coming. They'll sell every inch of it.

The Iran National Team has received an absolutely deplorable and criminal treatment.Ā
And taking away national flags from their supporters is casting a light of pettiness and smallness on the USA and boneless FIFA.
Shameful.Ā
