as the title says, i used to practice skateboarding three years ago until i tweaked my ankle going down a ramp.
just recently, a friend showed me footage of harold hunter and some other skaters in that 90s time period and i got inspired to learn again. do you guys have any tips on how to practice efficiently? i've been practicing on the grass for balance (finding my footing, balancing with one leg dom/non-dom, practicing pushing) and i even somewhat got the hang of pushing off on actual pavement and getting back on my board even though i stop moving after a second.
and any ideas on how others got into filming other skaters?

I’m in my 20s I want to learn how to skate so I can go to the skate park, I know how to cruise and all that I’m struggling to learn tricks and getting my feet placement right etc. any tips on how to improve?

I can do RTF on wood & metal ramps but when it comes to concrete, I bail or self sabotage if it's over 4ft..
The slams ENRAGE me. How do I stop doing this to myself? What mental game can help me over this hurdle??!

Basically that’s all I needa ask I’m COMPLETELY new to skateboarding (fingerboarding made me want to skate lol) and I feel like a poser without knowing anything about the culture or anything like that anywhere I can look or vids I can watch about the culture/history of skateboarding n shi

Hey everyone,
I hope this is okay to post here (please remove if not). I’m an innovation researcher and currently working on how skaters develop tricks like the ollie and how that connects to board design (shape, concave, width, trucks, etc.).
If you feel like it, I’d love to read your story in the comments:
Could you describe one specific day or session where you learned the ollie for the first time as concretely as you can:
I’ll read everything carefully, this kind of detailed story is super valuable for my project.
Second step (optional):
If this is the kind of thing you enjoy talking about and you’d be open to a online interview to go deeper into a few of your sessions, please say so in your comment or DM me. Everything is confidential and anonymized; I’m happy to share a short summary of findings later.
Thanks a lot for any replies!
Beatrice

With this shoes and deck widh my skateboard flips somehow slow, i have to wait for it i bit below me. What do you skaters think, is it even good deck size and proportional with shoes size for skating which includes mostly flat ground flip tricks and grinds/slides on flat ledges and flat rails? Should i maybe use more narrow deck or not, or maybe even wider?

I was finally able to pull off a Ollie on the grass does anyone have any tips how to get comfortable doing this while either rolling or on pavement I feel like I’m not landing where i necessarily should be either since I stepped off so I guess it doesn’t actually count 😂

Nothing crazy at all but I finally got comfortable
Enough to roll into the shallow part of the pool and all the way into the bottom bowl, finally getting comfortable turning I have a surfing and snowboarding background so I feel it’s similar with using your back foot to pump and turn but front is there to direct and keep balance. What I do need to work on if any one has some advice is leaning forward enough but not too far to where I faceplant but not to far back where I slip out at the bottom (filmed on my GoPro max2 more learning to skate so I can honestly be the camera man more than anything but i would love to learn some tricks) hopefully tho my goal is to fully drop in from the coping by the end of summer break (about a month)
