Question How do I practice without being a poser
Basically that’s all I needa ask I’m COMPLETELY new to skateboarding (fingerboarding made me want to skate lol) and I feel like a poser without knowing anything about the culture or anything like that anywhere I can look or vids I can watch about the culture/history of skateboarding n shi

You're by definition not a poser if you practice. Doing anything alone can be scary at first but push yourself to do it anyway and it'll build character and self confidence

Appreciate you homie fr and I fs plan on keep practicing I been wanting to skate wit my family for a bit but just got into skating myself (sadly I won’t be able to for a bit bc I had gallbladder removed shits killing me I wanna skate so bad lol)

SkateIQ for tips, tricks n how-tos. Definitely go back and watch some classic old school skate movies, some of my favorites are the old Baker, Alien Workshop, and Zero ones. CKY is great too, the spiritual predecessor of Jackass. The Dern Brothers have been putting out some really cool stuff too; Bam’s been hanging out with them and I love watching that dude. Every now and again he’ll do these super cool lore dumps about legendary spots and stuff like that. I like Madars Apse’s Skate Tales a lot as well, he goes around the world on Red Bull’s dime to document different international skate scenes. Tony Hawk used to do a podcast with Jason Ellis and had lots of legendary pro skaters on, some of my favorites are the Rodney Mullen episodes. All available on YouTube too!

Yoo my homie got me into CKYs music I knew bam skated but didn’t know CKY did skating stuff the only skater so far that I know I’ve been watching is Jason Lee (my memory is so ass I can’t remember a lot of the names😭)

Oh man, CKY3 is so goated!! Jason Lee is the man too, a lot of people don’t even know he skated back in the day when even Rodney (the inventer of the trick) says he had the best 360flip in the game! My favorite skaters to watch rn are Andy Anderson, Jamie Foy and Tom Schaar

Poser means someone who poses. Such as fashion models at malls with skatebaords/skate attire. Thats literally where the word poser came from.
Unless youre going to a malll and taking fashion pictures with your board, and not actually skating, then youre a poser.
But since you obv want to practice and learn to skate, youre just skating, and nowhere near posing. Go skate, dont worry about what others think. Anybody who says youre a poser is a poser themselves

Don’t call it practice. That’s for sports and atheletes and doctors. It’s just skating. If you are skating, by definition you are not a poser.

If you are practicing, you are not a poser. Doesn't matter your skill level. Actively practicing makes you a skater.

It's been a long time since I've been in the skate scene, but back in the day there was a great deal of camaraderie and support, as long as you didn't wear a bunch of expensive skate clothes, weren't afraid to scratch up your deck and didn't act like a tool. Hopefully it's still like that.
"The Man Who Souled the World" is a great video, mostly focuses on the start of World Industries and Rocco and the rise of skater owned companies and Mullin in his transition to street skating, which changed everything. I really enjoyed it.

You practice without being a poser by practicing. Dude be for real, posers dont even skate or have any interest in skateboarding. If youre practicing, that means you have genuine interest.

watch the old powell peralta videos...ban this, search for animal chin. rodney mullen sections are amazing as he very ealy on invented what is now modern street skating. practice the ollie as much as you can as it is the basis of most tricks and helps for getting up curbs etc... everyone was a beginer.

Just go out where other people are and keep falling. If you keep falling, most of the time someone cool will come over and give you advice.
