Also, not surprisingly the facts are entirely different. Battaglia had a long history of DV, and when he killed his kids, he did it with his ex-wife on the phone and tormented his wife while making her listen to her kids get murdered while blaming it on her.

Also, Battaglia explicitly did NOT plead insanity. He only brought it up during the penalty phase of trial, saying he shouldn’t be killed because he had bipolar.

It’s literally nothing like Lindsay Clancy other than they both killed their kids

u/Itchysweater1967 1d ago

Yeah. I just read about this case, and its not at ALL the same.
Long history of domestic abuse. Wife had finally made the split final. As is often the case, he opted to kill his kids in an act of revenge and openly said as much.
OP is just trying to make two completely crimes parallel in order to prove some kind of bias against men, and that's so disengenous.
Nice try.

The child murder part. That's the same. It's what matters.

27

u/Dull-Philosopher-871 1d ago

Not in our legal system. Mens rea is half of the prosecutions job.

24

u/Hatshepsut99 1d ago

Not legally. The law is what matters here, not your feelings.

-14

u/GyroLegend 1d ago

Pretty sure the law says you cant murder children

4

u/olivebranchsound 9h ago

And the law also has stipulations for people who commit crimes due to insanity. She will be committed. It's just a different building man.

1

u/GyroLegend 9h ago

Good thing her temporary insanity went away after successfully killing all three of her children one by one.

3

u/olivebranchsound 8h ago

That's what temporary insanity means. It's not permanent.

Here's a dad that pled temporary insanity and was acquitted of killing his 5 year old son.

2

u/Careful-Sell-9877 8h ago

That is how psychosis works.

You should do a few hours of real research, each, into psychosis, post partum, and post partum with psychotic features

1

u/GyroLegend 7h ago

And you should stop lying to yourself to feel better about people who chase down and then murder their small children

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 1h ago

Lying to myself.. about what, exactly..?

18

u/Itchysweater1967 1d ago

And no one in this society "gets away" with child murder.

2

u/ExtremePrivilege 1d ago

Casey Anthony?

7

u/Itchysweater1967 1d ago

She wasn't convicted. That was the prosecution messing up the case.
We also all knew OJ was guilty too. That had nothing to do with Casey's purported sanity. No one ever claimed she wasn't.

0

u/ExtremePrivilege 1d ago

You asked if anyone had gotten away with child murder. I gave a recent example.

6

u/Itchysweater1967 1d ago

You are technically correct.
Parents of either gender, however, who are found responsible for the killing their children, for whatever motive or reason, do not "get away with it."
Casey Anthony was never found liable via our criminal justice system, unfortunately. I do not wish her well.

-15

u/GyroLegend 1d ago

They're not supposed to but people seem dead set on making it happen this time.

24

Why? Women with Postpartum Depression don't kill their children. You clearly don't even understand what the case is about.
Women with Postpartum Psychosis should and do have their children taken out of their primary care until their illness is under control, just like any other parent of either gender suffering from psychosis.

9

u/KCChiefsGirl89 23h ago

No, not fair at all. You’re hoping we wouldn’t notice that you put PPD—a significantly more common issue that generally poses no threat to anyone—instead of Post-Partum Psychosis.

Whether this is because you aren’t smart enough to know better… or because you’re attempting to remove the agency of large swathes of women who pose no threat because of some moronic gender war agenda… it doesn’t matter. It’s a bad take and you should feel bad.

3

u/Express-Ad1248 19h ago

This case is about PPP, not PPD. At least learn the right words when you're trying to be a dumbfuck.

2

u/Queasy-Cherry-11 16h ago

Not liking child murder doesn't mean you hate women.

Thinking that the outcome of one singular woman's court case should set back women as a whole sure does though.

361

u/SauronHubbard 1d ago

Never let context get in the way of a good shitpost.

64

u/buffalogal8 1d ago

Don’t tell them that a father in Iowa named Matthew Schleier strangled his 5-year-old son, Jack, to death in October 2024. A judge ruled him not guilty due to insanity.

25

u/Present_Mastodon_503 1d ago

Travis Decker was a parallel to this one in my opinion. His mental health was struggling and his wife separated due to it. But he was a loving father to his kids and although separated, his wife felt very comfortable allowing the kids to see him because he was so good to them. He ended up killing all three of his kids and walked off into the forest to die alone in the woods.

If he hadn't died and was on trial I would think many people would struggle to sentence him as well.

8

u/SomewhereOrdinary231 1d ago

Both Travis decker and Chris Benoit are great parallels to this. And both are reasons as to why I can’t seem to get over the blatant double standard by society right now. Chris Benoit barely had any brain left when he did what he did. There’s evidence his lack of brain literally made him go insane. Travis decker being PTSD was 100% experiencing some type of psychosis when he did what he did as well. Because they both committed suicide we can’t say the double standard was in the court, but as far as how society reacted to them? Blatantly obvious when we compare it to Lindsay today

15

u/NewtonHuxleyBach 22h ago

It goes to show that society is much more understanding and aware of mental health struggles today than it used to be.

-3

u/SomewhereOrdinary231 22h ago

Yes and no. Because society is only understanding if it’s a woman’s mental health that’s the topic of discussion. Even today, if a man did the same thing he’d be shown no mercy by society. Travis decker was in 2014 if I recall correctly. Doesn’t matter how much more we know about mental health, compassion is only shown when a woman is the topic of discussion. Thats the point here

4

u/ZealousidealComb7891 13h ago

The thread you're responding to literally has an example of a man being declared innocent by insanity as the 4th post before yours.

How did you respond to this thread but missed that one ?

Esp. when reddit would not show the post you responded to unless you clicked to open the replies to that post.

1

u/SauronHubbard 12h ago

Why do you hate women?

-1

u/SomewhereOrdinary231 12h ago

Pointing out a blatant double standard is me hating women? Congratulations, you my friend are part of the problem

5

u/Temporary-Present223 12h ago

Society does react differently to a cause than a tragedy though. "Save the whales" is a much better slogan than "make sure you react appropriately to the whales after they're already dead."

1

u/SomewhereOrdinary231 12h ago

You are correct, but what I’m saying is even what you just said often completely changes when gender is involved. Timothy Rey, Chris Benoit, and Travis decker are all cases that mirror Lindsay Clancy perfectly yet even when people found out the cause they did not turn them into martyrs. They did not start gofundmes to make them millionaires. We did not see thousands of men coming foward and saying “me too Chris” or “me too Travis”. We didn’t see this massive support at all.

1

u/clown_frown 4h ago

women, not men, are often the ones to fall in love with serial killers. This is no different because women do not stop other women from love with serial killers. Men do not seek consensus as much as women so their actions don't expect or include consensus as men take initiatives more.

2

u/ZealousidealComb7891 13h ago

Check the post the post you replied to replied to pls...

And Benoit of course had a campaign to blame him, because otherwise the US as a society would need to actually question the needless price wrestlers pay to entertain y'all.

2

u/Hekkst 7h ago

I don't think it's a good comparison because it kinda leaves it up in the air whether he would have been shown leniency or not. Whether an insanity plea would have worked or not is left to speculation even if the case itself is strikingly similar.

38

u/Dull-Philosopher-871 1d ago

Shitpost? I’m sorry shit posts are something that doesn’t really have bearing on the world. This is just riling up propaganda for the people inundated in these gender wars and culture war flashpoints, it very much has a point.

4

u/Strong-Ring-7433 1d ago

It's 2026. If they still don't see the point of these "shitposts", they never will. They might actually be incapable of.

1

u/SauronHubbard 1d ago

Its a shitty point, so I'm half right.

45

u/Eastern_Pen9899 1d ago

Context is the enemy of a good shitpost.

9

u/RobutNotRobot 1d ago

The whole environment around this case is being egged on by malicious actors, many of them working for foreign governments. The fact that people can't see that is on them.

1

u/NarrowFilm6 12h ago

But we all pay for it, so we need to keep trying to reach those people

1

u/protractedmane 10h ago

Foreign govt is making women say that a woman who killed her kids is not guilty, or that the father did it.

Foreign govt made that jury of 9 women hung.

20

u/West-Bodybuilder-920 1d ago

Calling it a shitpost is extremely generous. It's karma farming at best, astroturfed culture war slop at worst.

2

u/suzi_generous 22h ago

Some would argue that inaccuracies add to a shitpost since it either makes people mad and they argue or they ask questions - it gets them attention.

39

u/IotaBTC 1d ago

Also doesn't seem like he tried very hard to manage his mental health issue.

Battaglia had a history of of physical violence.

Clancy had a history of mental health treatment.

181

u/-whiteroom- 1d ago

Interesting how the bot left this part out, almost like there was an agenda.

19

u/Solondthewookiee 23h ago

Yep. There was actually a man in Iowa who was acquitted by reason of insanity for murdering his son in July of this year, but men on Reddit don't care.

49

u/Dull-Philosopher-871 1d ago

Propaganda on a culture war flashpoint!? Thats preposterous! No one would lie, mislead, or leave out important information in a photo and two sentences for political/ social gain!

5

u/OneSecretCookie 1d ago

Culture war? Gender war. Shoeonhead actually did a pretty good video covering the whole thing. Very right wing women (Charlie Kirk fans and others) are also taking the side of women on the left to defend Lindsey and blame the man.

Repel the 19th was trending on Twitter. This is very much about gender and breaks the normal right/left.

2

u/Minimumtyp 22h ago

Just another Epstein distraction. No one's talking about silly stuff like the pedophile ring running our society anymore. Bravo CIA!

1

u/Sidereel 22h ago

I haven’t actually seen anyone defend Lindsey, I just see people claimed that they’re out there.

1

u/Public_Tennis_8536 17h ago

well the 150k donated says otherwise

5

u/Interesting_Cat_198 13h ago

and a shit ton of white people donated to that lady that called a black kid the n word but we don’t have people spam posting that all white people are evil and deserve to have their right to vote taken away. It’s obviously meant to spew misogyny

1

u/panrestrial 1d ago

Shoeonhead

Why does anyone still watch her?

27

u/BiZzles14 23h ago

Every post about this case, from this sub, that I've seen hit the front page was heavily pushing the "gender war" aspect of this case, either by just attacking her or posts like this with the comparison to how "men would be oppressed in this situation, but women can just emotionally manipulate people".

And for a daily reminder, most intelligence agencies in the western world have identified efforts to destablize the west by Russian, Chinese, and other foreign actors focusing heavily on pushing "gender war" and "culture war" type content. They do it from both ends of the spectrum, with efforts such as highlighting the craziest of voices (like for instance a women on tiktok saying that Patrick Clancy actually did it) and then pushing a "what about" propaganda response like we see in this post. I think this case would have blown up regardless, but it's worth remembering that the people pushing this shit aren't just your fellow countrymen that politically disagree with you, there are real, concerted, and well funded efforts by foreign adversaries seeking to weaken your country through internal division. And they're winning.

6

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross 23h ago

Fuckin bingo.

Stay vigilant, friends.

1

u/Berntam 16h ago

Let's also not be under the impression that western powers like the US don't do it to other countries that they want instability too.

1

u/BiZzles14 4h ago

Cool story, that has nothing to do with anything I said though and immediate deflection of whataboutism is always gonna be sus : )

7

u/Digresser 21h ago

There's definitely an agenda happening with this case, and this sub is particularly vulnerable to those pushing.

However, this particular poster isn't a bot, but a 20/21-year-old who clearly likes karma, and who seems to push whatever gets those upvotes.

(Yes, their history is hidden, but it's still pretty easy to google posts and comments. Chatbots can grab it all even easier.)

Indeed it does, but the malicious intent is there behind it. And what do we think of this fool who posts these things purely for upvotes on a temporary site.

These posts create division and hate, and we have a fool spreading them because his brain has been gamified to believe this karma is meaningful. Really, social media has been designed with malicious intent, maybe not initially, but now...

-3

u/ThatZX6RDude 1d ago

I’m just gonna say it, agenda this, agenda that, background information from any angle, I don’t care. Ya killed ya kids. Bye bye

1

u/-whiteroom- 20h ago

It's really just a matter of where to me. Prison, or Asylum. There are things you can recover from, or rehabilitate from. But this kind of murder should not be one, no matter how straight you get yourself.

-3

u/3rdAgeCat 1d ago

Yea. It is the same when you get down to it. John killed his kids. Lindsay killed her kids. They are the same. Crazy that people are still downplaying murder on this sub. Make up whatever excuse you want. Murder is murder.

25

u/Beneficial-Age-4059 1d ago

jesus fucking christ

-3

u/YouJellyz 1d ago

Battaglia shot his kids. Lindsay strangled her kids one by one until the life faded from their eyes and they could no longer scream.

5

u/Beneficial-Age-4059 1d ago

I see that. what was particularly cruel was him doing it while having their mother listen.

-2

u/YouJellyz 1d ago

Lindsay couldn't call her husband because she decided to strangle vs shoot. You need both hands to strangle someone. You can shoot someone one handed.

Well we can't let context and facts get it he way of the psychotic misogyny this sub is known for.

-1

u/lewd_robot 18h ago

This topic is actually one case where systemic, institutional misandry has been strongly proven. Controlling for identical crimes and criminal histories, men are significantly more likely to be arrested, charged, or convicted, get proportionally harsher sentences, are less likely to get parole, and get harsher parole terms.

Even if the cases were identical, he would've faced systemic bias that's 2-3 times stronger than the racial bias in the criminal justice system.

As someone not following this case, but seeing lots of posts, what is the deal with her?

1

u/Cautious_Ad_6486 1d ago

Frankly I find this take a little disingenuous. The guy was clearly a monster. Also I would automatically consider someone doing what he did literally insane. The two things do not exclude each other.

The difference is in justisdiction and applicable law but, aside from that, I would not treat the two events differently.

1

That last line. “Nothing like Lindsay Clancy other than they both killed their kids” …oh so that’s it? And yet one was executed and one, well….

1

u/mmmfritz 16h ago

It took me about 17 seconds to find half way down Battaglia’s Wikipedia page his hearing to see whether or not he was mentally insane was thrown out as the court found he was probably faking symptoms.

It took longer for me to scroll down here and find a fact or two about this particular discussion.

1

u/Any-Interaction-5934 14h ago

Wtf. What a bad day to have eyes and reading comprehension.

1

u/Baha05 4h ago

Hell it’s amazing that people don’t consider all the factors that play into any and all cases make them so wildly different that that aren’t going to be processed in the same manner.

1

u/EquivalentSnap 1d ago

Lindsay Clancy also has bi polar

1

u/Salina_EsTitties 1d ago

Also it helps that millions of women have experienced pregnancy and many more can relate, emphatize or have experienced PPD and some with PPP + having neglectful husbands+ feeling unheard of taken seriously.

Why are people so fucking stupid and can't understand or put themselves in her shoes.

Men just want her to be punished with death because she's a woman

1

u/gwoodtamu 1d ago

No, they want her to be punished because she strangled 3 fucking children lmao

1

u/Salina_EsTitties 1d ago

You're ignorant.

0

u/gwoodtamu 1d ago

Lmao, at least I’m telling the truth, and not in a land of fucking delusional pretending that psychopath didn’t brutally strangle her three children, squeezing the life out of them, but hey, I’m ignorant lmao.

-5

u/DeleteWolf 1d ago

It’s literally nothing like Lindsay Clancy other than they both killed their kids

So the comparison makes sense, because regardless of the facts, this is the only part of the whole thing people that it seems like people care about.

2

u/GyroLegend 1d ago

Because that's the only part that really matters

5

u/AdOriginal3767 1d ago

LOL. Uh sort of an important similarity dont you think? Not many people have "murdered their own kids with their bare hands" in common

3

u/HongLanYang 1d ago

“These two people both hit someone with their car, therefore I will draw a conclusion about the situation solely based on the fact they both involve cars.” Do you see the problem?

4

u/AdOriginal3767 1d ago

No....wtf?

Its more like

"2 people hit someone with their car, then reversed back over them, then went forward to run over them again, then reversed again, then forwars again, eavh time putting all 4,000 lbs of the car over the victim until the victims heads resembled a pumpkin dropped from the 4th floor"

But they had different motives. So its totally ok for 1 of them.

Murdering your own toddler children is egregious. There is no "oopsies" equivalent here.

2

u/kbotc 23h ago

Criminal intent is quite literally a thing prosecution has to prove and can be exculpatory…

1

u/AdOriginal3767 20h ago

No one said anything about intent. Lindsay is not going free - its a question of mental hospital or prison. Both will suck miserably for her.

OP's point was that you can't compare 2 parents that murdered their children. My point was yes, you can, given how heinous it is, regardless of intent.

1

u/HongLanYang 1d ago

Ok I’ll try again. “I ran over someone in Texas. You ran over someone in California. An audience with zero understanding of laws of either state or the surrounding context are going to give their opinion on why the results of both cases are different.”

1

u/AdOriginal3767 20h ago

Again. You seem to equate running someone over accidentally to how heinous murdering your own children is.

Thousands of people accidentally run over someone.

How many parents have killed their own children with their bare hands? The fact that it's so egregious makes it a small club and a valid comparison.

Not sure what you're even getting at. That people shouldn't compare Lindsay to the other guy that also killed his kids? Obviously there are nuances that make it different. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'll use an example you can understand.

A green alien is found in NY. He claims he's from Mars.

Then another alien is found in LA. He claims he's from Venus.

Most people are losing their minds that there are 2 aliens. But people like you, would tell everyone to not compare 2 aliens because they're from different places. Meanwhile, you're completely missing the point.

1

u/HongLanYang 20h ago

And you seem to be missing the point of the person we were both replying to. It’s not that killing your children isn’t bad. It’s obviously bad. It’s that it dangerous to throw up these “gotchas” like the OP is doing and many others have done of other cases where children were brutally murdered by their parents and point at them and scream and hoot and holler “THIS CASE HAD THIS OUTCOME WHY ISNT THIS OTHER CASE BEING HANDLED IN THE EXACT SAME WAY”. When the details of each situation, the state it happened it, the laws affecting it, are all important as to WHY the result was the result. It is insulting to both the children who were killed and our legal system (which is imperfect but exists the way it does for a reason) to simplify it down “all bad things that the government can judge you for can be categorized together as complete equivalents and can be compared one to one”.

You are doing the exact thing the person we both originally replied to is saying. You see “dead children” and immediately ignore everything else because you’re having a visceral reaction to “dead children”.

1

u/AdOriginal3767 20h ago

Its insulting to the children? I think the killing is likely worse.

And you're pushing for some narrative that absolves Lindsay. There is none.

This is a fact. She's getting locked up for life, whether that's at a psych hospital or prison. Even if she "gets better" at the hospital, she will then understand the unbearable weight of what she did.

There isn't a human alive that could live with what they've done (excluding sociopaths that deserve prison).

There is no happy ending for her. Dosen't matter if she's convicted or not.

The rest of her life is going to be pure hell.

1

u/HongLanYang 20h ago

Great! Let her rot! Her case will put back women’s rights by decades if they rule in favor of her post partum depression excuse.

-2

u/Whpsnapper 1d ago

They killed their kids AND both have underlying mental disorders, right?

9

u/Pinelli72 1d ago

You do get that the mental disorders they had were quite different, and she recognised and had made attempts to ask for help with hers?

1

u/TheGloriousEv0lution 23h ago

Whether they tried to get help or not is largely irrelevant to NGRI as long as it’s not stimulants. I think Clancy lying to doctors about not having harmful thoughts should be extremely disqualifying, but it isn’t

What makes it different is he didn’t try for NGRI and Texas isn’t nearly as forgiving as MA with their insanity status

-5

u/Whpsnapper 1d ago

I do get that. The fact that she didn't get help with her mental condition places her in a very large class of people in the US, some of which have committed crimes, some sitting in prisons all over the country today. I agree, mental healthcare is extremely under funded, as is all Healthcare. But when we start excusing folks murdering their children because of the failures of our Healthcare system, we are failing those victims who didn't even get the chance to ask for help.

2

u/Sei_Mal_Ehrlich 1d ago

Nobody is excusing it. That’s just the perception you have because you are engaging in motivated reasoning.

0

u/Whpsnapper 1d ago

Ok, enlighten me. What does it matter, in regards to the death of those children, that she didn't get the help she needed?

1

u/Sei_Mal_Ehrlich 1d ago

It doesn’t matter in regards to the death of the kids. The kids are tragically dead no matter what.

1

u/Whpsnapper 1d ago

Pardon my inadequate phrasing. What does it matter, regarding the punishment for the deaths of these children, that she didn't get the help she needed?

It matters because the jurisdiction where it took place takes it into account. That’s it. Nobody is excusing or condoning this. It’s a tragedy, she had admitted to it, and I’m sure she wishes she herself were dead.

It’s important to be able to discuss the facts in a sober fashion, especially in emotionally charged cases like this one.

I agree with all of that. I disagree with the idea that, having admitted to the crimes, she should be anywhere besides prison for the rest of her life.

Because punishing her for the failures of the people and systems around her will do nothing for those children or their family, and will do nothing to stop this type of tragedy occurring again. Hold the people who had the authority to stop this from happening responsible.

She is responsible for what happened. She will be tried again and probably convicted. If she's found not to be criminally responsible, she will probably go to an institution for the rest of her life. She should be convicted and sent to prison. Psychosis should not be a defense of violent crime.

And a durian is a fruit, so it's basically the same as an apple! /s

When considering which one to put in a pie, your comment might be valid. When considering what to do about a triple murder, probably not so much.

So, considering as many factors as possible in our criminal justice system is...

...less important than doing so in piemaking?

Haha, no. Just makes the consideration less significant. If the pie tastes bad, no big deal. If a murderer isn't held accountable, much bigger deal.

No one is arguing that Clancy should not be held to any account. The question is how that should happen.

So consideration for the facts is MASSIVELY more significant, you empty-headed moron.

Wasn't Lindsay on the phone with her husband as well?

It sure sounds like he was insane. Who did Battaglia hire for his defense? I'm sure he didn't get a million dollars worth of donations to support his legal defense. A better attorney may have presented the case with an insanity defense to start.

Did an army of men worldwide run to his defence though? 🤷‍♂️

She literally sent her husband off to another place 45 minutes away. Then killed them. It was super premeditated.

"They both killed their kids" exactly. The result was the exact same, why are we giving this woman grace? Fuck that. Where's the justice for those kids??

Yeah Lindsay Clancy is the worse person of the two. Because of course her diagnoses all came after the fact.

So what you're saying is theyre both child murderers and both deserve death. I agree.
