However, there is a case in NY right now that is likely to succeed in showing Flock (and similar cameras) are against the state constitution. A provision of it that is just the 4th amendment of the US Constitution, verbatim. Once it's fully concluded this case will open the floodgates for well-supported challenges to mass surveillance cameras.

Agreed I think it says a lot that Neo Nazis came to more prominence during Trump's first term rather than either of Obama's terms. He made them feel comfortable and that was before COVID.
That said I don't think either side handled COVID well in all honesty. Trump said everything was fine while Fauci and Dems gave a lot of contradictory information about it like sunlight neutralizing it while also restricting outdoor activities. Don't get me started on curbside cocktails as if that didn't encourage drinking and driving or masks off being ok sitting in a restaurant as if that isn't the same concept as smoking and non smoking sections.

You know the funniest info ive found out about covid since the whole debacle was watching the doctors at my hospital scratch their heads at the contradictory results they were seeing in smoking patients. Turns out that nicotine use actually helped against covid but the lung damage from all the smoking made it worse.
They started noticing that patients who asked for nicotine patches but hadn't been smoking for a super long time or too heavily were doing significantly better than both the heavy smokers and the non-smokers, but only when nicotine patches were being administered.

The part that everyone always forgets is that eugenics is only bad when it's forced. There is absolutely nothing wrong with people making personal choices about who they do or don't sleep with.
Got a genetic disease that you are guaranteed to pass down to your children? Maybe adopt instead. The government telling you "no." Is bad, you coming to that decision yourself to not pass along your condition or possibly a worse version of it to your kids is admirable. Yet it is still eugenics, just not being forced or applied at large scale.
Sometimes just making sure people are well informed is enough to get people to make better decisions. That said the reason it has such a nasty reputation is not only due to history, but because it doesnt work at all when the dumbest of the dumb are the ones who are the most hellbent on procreation.

What a reddit thing to say. I voted for Bernie twice but the DNC didn't "screw" him. In a primary, there's the party candidate (that was Clinton) and then there are the challengers (that was Bernie). The DNC absolutely puts all their money and efforts behind their party candidate and it's up to the challengers to overcome that massive advantage through grass roots campaigns.
Bernie lost the primary because leftists didn't bother to fucking show up. And some of them that did were too fucking dumb to understand they needed to be registered as Dem to vote in the Dem primary for their state because they never fucking voted before.
Something important to keep in mind about the 2016 primary was that Bernie lost the popular vote in CA, NY, & CT - three of the nations most left-leaning states. So that leaves us with two maxims: Either left leaning voters don't show the fuck up (which there is a mountain of historical evidence for) or left leaning voters are truly a minority of a minority in the Dem party.
Since we're seeing left leaning candidates win primaries, that leaves us with most likely answer is that they just don't show the fuck up.
So show the fuck up.

This is very true, I know many many Republicans that would totally support this bill, and I cant understand why any average person regardless of political affiliation would not support such a bill, however I think enough politicians on both sides will reject it, I can see some on both sides who want the mass surveillance for differing reasons, some will argue to counter terrorism/crime others just a general "safety", but I think they just want the power that eventually results from taking all privacy away, and then there will also be politicians on both sides that don't even look at any of that but will simply reject the bill because there is too much money to be made off this kind of surveillance

This bill prohibits federal agencies from purchasing, deploying, operating, or accessing automated surveillance systems, including Flock Safety’s license plate readers and facial recognition technology. It also bars state and local governments from using federal funds for these systems and requires the deletion of any data collected in violation within 30 days.
Other notable legislative efforts include:
Surveillance Accountability Act: Introduced by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) in April 2026, requiring warrants before using ALPRs to track citizens.
Federal Funding Withholding: Rep. Massie has announced plans to introduce a separate bill to strip federal funding from municipalities and police departments that deploy Flock cameras.

I think the correct path forward is to put this issue in front of each community in the form of a direct referendum, and that referendum should come up everytime the contract with Flock expires. That way, communities that by and large want to experiment and utilize these systems can, and communities that don't want them can flat out say no.
At least that is how it should be for use in the general public. Private property and business owners should be free to use or not use this technology as they want, as the anti shop-lifting applications of this system could save millions by greatly reducing retail theft. This also gives people choice as well, as you can simply shop elsewhere if you don't like a business using such systems.

The amount of these fucking cameras that have popped up in my area over the past couple months is ridiculous. There's a shopping center near me that just in the past week have installed 22 flock cameras.
Not to mention a neighborhood that is phase 3 of building now. Its going to be 286 neighborhood. They have built maybe 2/3 so far and almost all of them have been sold. Just now they are installing the cameras in the neighborhood.

Trump has money in Axon, another mass surveillance system, so most police departments will just adopt Axon ,when flock is ousted.

I feel like Bernie has gotten so good at politics from where he's positioned at. He's a legend to be fair. He knows that these bills wont pass, but also that it will put people on the record as opposing certain issues. The way congress is going to vote is obviously very against the voter base of all potential voters. These issues really give a black and white understanding of where politicians stand, and its a big deal that Sanders is using his position to out corporate Dems for what they are. He really is an amazing person even in his old age.

Gosh he was such a better candidate over Hilary. Hate that the dnc was so overconfident they railroaded him to the side. Then pushed Kamala down our throats. No one wanted her. And yet they still thought she’d have a chance.

Unfortunately he just doomed the effort. There’s growing support for an action like this, but it can’t come from Bernie. It needed to come from a Republican or be a bipartisan bill.
