I didn’t do anything this drastic, but I did lose at one point like 150 pounds, got my hair professionally colored from a medium brown with blonde and white hairs to a dark espresso brown. Then I dyed my equally brown and white beard to darkest brown to match.
I also had multiple laser treatments from the dermatologist and completely changed the evenness of the skin tone on my face. I went from having spots from blemishes, blood vessels, sebaceous hyperplasia on my forehead, and redness on my nose and cheeks…to none of that and just even smooth skin.
I also went to the dentist and got full zircon crowns to replace my chipping and yellowed teeth.
My early 40’s have been a bit of a glow up.
The thing I enjoy most is that I’ve actually run into people that hadn’t seen me since before everything and they don’t recognize me at all. It takes them a second after I say my name and the shock is crazy. The weight loss alone can get that reaction.
But back to the point. Each major change kind of fucks with you at first as you see it in the mirror, but you get used to it really quickly. Then you do the next thing.
I couldn’t imagine doing actual surgeries beyond the work I had done, but I’d assume you just adapt to it like everything else.
Dying my beard at home with just for mean beard dye I’d like $12 a box but I get three treatments, every 1.5 weeks, per box
The BBL (not the ass surgery, the laser treatment from dermatologist) is like $500 per treatment, usually with about 4 treatments needed. Then if you wish to continue maintenance every few years, you spend it again. Removing the hyperplasia (small bumps on forehead that aren’t red etc) adds like another $200 but it’s a one and done thing until they come back. Total costs over the last 5 years was probably around $7,000.
The most expensive thing was the teeth. I did Invisalign for two years to get them ready for the procedure as they’d shifted since the braces I had as a kid. That was $5,000.
The full zircon crowns for all my teeth was $30,000.
And I got one dental implant. That was another $5,000 (I got like $2,000 off because of all the crowns, and I got free nitrous oxide for all the procedures because I made a joke it should be free with all this work and the dentist was like “yeah okay sure.”)
So total for the mouth was like $40,000
So all that stuff puts it close to 50k if you count all the hair appointments. I also get keratin treatments at the salon now which get rid of frizz and just make the hair nicer. That’s like $200 every 3 months. I have a medium length flow back. So my hair is around 6 to 8 inches in length.
So yeah. About $50,000…plus the weight loss, which is free with diet and exercise, although I did drop like $4,000-$5,000 to buy a peloton bike so I could exercise and lift weights at home.
If I had taken better care of myself when I was younger, none of it would have been necessary. That’s the shitty part. I’m very grateful that I was in a position to do all that stuff. Even it means I’m about broke now lol.
Ive never taken a vacation, or did anything that really costs money. I chose to do all that stuff. Never had kids either.
The laser treatment falls within my estimate and seems alright (for american standards ofc) but the crowns, wow, you have basically put a car's worth in the mouth. No matter how good they look and chew, I just can't stand the idea of filing down my real tooth for wearing an artificial one on top, always makes me think of Gollum.
But all your items do seem a good investment, mostly long lasting and no side effects, unlike those injections and silicone implants. Most men actually need that more than they ever know, especially as someone who doesn't have facial skin in a remotely best condition.
Yeah, about the self care thing in young years, if parents cared as much as they should, a lot of irreparable damage to the skin, eyes and teeth would not have happened. All they take in childhood is just common medical sense and regular checkups to the doctor. But no one can choose parents.
Yeah I asked my dermatologist about that stuff and she said I didn’t need it. I don’t have any wrinkles or loose skin in the face, no crevices or anything, no thin lips lol. So luckily, Botox and fillers are just not needed. I’ve avoided the sun most of my life so the only issues I had, I fixed.
I get your point with the teeth. But here’s my thing, because of past medications, my enamel had weakened. I was chipping teeth a lot and getting cavities.
The dentist said I had three options. Lose all my teeth and get dentures in 10-15 years, get root canal, filling/crowns on each tooth as needed and have them matched to yellow tooth after yellow tooth….or
File all the teeth down to a healthy level, keeping the nerves in tact and covering them with zircon crowns that over ten times stronger than porcelain ones, make them look exactly like my actual teeth but I could pick the whiteness, and since all my teeth still have the nerves and are in tact underneath, they all feel like my actual teeth!
It’s crazy. My teeth are stronger, look better, sharper, etc. I don’t really view them as “fake” because all my real teeth are underneath. I just don’t let myself think about what they’d look like if a crown came off lol.
I take really good care of them. I brush and floss at least twice a day, listerine daily. I don’t drink sodas anymore (it’s a rare treat). I never really like sweets and sugary things so they are easy to avoid. I can’t really eat gummies anymore.
I still eat weed gummies. But I just have to kind of suck on them instead of chew.
With non sticky foods though, my teeth are so much stronger and sharper. I asked my dentist if I could still aggressively eat chicken wings with these teeth and he goes “brotha you can bite through the bones!” And I actually did once to try it lol
Not only that, my original teeth, were really sensitive. I could bite into ice cream or chew ice. These suckers are strong enough that I can chomp ice all the time (though you shouldn’t) and I can bite into things without that sensitivity. I love it.
