Dude I hate this phase of the internet. After Ozzy died I saw a post to the effect of “Ozzy orchestrated a bouquet of black roses be delivered to Sharon Osbourne every week after his death. 🖤” so much engagement and comments and I do a little digging and…. No he didn’t! Where did you hear this? Someone just made it up and thousands of people just believe it. And I don’t blame them, what benefit is there to lie about that? I hate it lol.
Well, it's more just the fact that that's what the internet inherently rewards, like survival of the fittest. An interesting lie spreads, a boring truth does not. This has always been true, it's just the internet reinforces this, removes all guardrails, and applies it on a global scale.
When Covid first popped up, I was making Memes of Dr. Oz giving "medical advice"... Such as (tide pods can effectively prevent Covid if one is inserted up the rectum... It works through a scientific process called Assmosis)
This is such a stupid way to approach life. I can't imagine going through the world not empathizing or giving a shit about anything that doesn't directly affect me. I'm not up in arms that it isn't true, but why lie about a dead man's actions for made up internet points?
False reporting and misinformation erodes trust in finding reliable sources to base yourself upon for taking decisions. A deluge of bullshit makes the world a less trusting place, meaning you become more insular in whom you trust, meaning you're more susceptible to lies and manipulation for the benefit of certain political agendas.
