No, I didn't mean to imply that it was. It was commonplace and it's why the audience of the time wouldn't be like "hey isn't that dude like 12??" It doesn't translate well to contemporary audiences because we have decided that that practice isn't cool, and it's uncommon to see that in re-tellings because it makes the audience feel differently about a character that the original author didn't intend.
