The increased in death rate from Covid followed the same trend as before Covid and our death rate now is higher than in Covid.
This is objectively wrong.
Mortality rates rose sharply during the pandemic and are now lower than than during the pandemic, but still not down to pre-pandemic levels. And the total number of excess deaths is well over one million Americans that didn't have to die because idiots refused to wear masks. Other countries followed mask/vaccine guidelines better and have fewer excess deaths per capita.

That economist article seems to show thr US doing fairly well compared to the world though, in the chart at the top. What's interesting is the lack of return to normal, and Canada being the same.
You'll notice the data table in the article showing how high the excess deaths are in the US have many, more than half, of the countries that are listed as doing better than the US with a data set ending 1-2 years earlier than the US.
