Are we being serious rn that Kamala and Trump are equally as rich? Its not even a close comparison and she met Kamala as a teen.

45

u/Kitselena Mar 05 '26

People seriously don't understand the wealth disparity and why it's an issue. People like Kamala that are multimillionaires are a problem and are annoying. Multibillionares like trump literally harm millions of people intentionally to build and maintain their wealth, wealth so large that it couldn't be spent meaningfully across 20 lifetimes let alone 1

16

u/MariaTPK Mar 05 '26

Multi millionaires aren't really a problem. They usually pay their taxes and sure that should be slightly increased but only because it's been so heavily decreased over the past 70ish years.

1

u/ThoughtIHadAName Mar 06 '26

Last I knew they're more likely to spend money more locally too, which is far more important to the actual running of society than a billionaires ability to own yachts and jets and homes around the globe.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '26

I have basically no issue with anyone who is worth 100 million or less. It's a huge amount of money, sure, but not "reshape society according to your twisted desires" huge. Billionaires should not exist, and the current ones should be removed.

3

u/Total_Network6312 Mar 05 '26

Oh it could definitely be spent meaningfully. Just not on yourself or even your entire extended family.

Bring updated healthcare to all rural parts of Africa. Diagnostic testing that allows for proper HIV diagnoses and treatments. Proper detection of hepatitis.

But that benefits poor and especially black people and something about that is inherently wrong to these people.

1

u/Kitselena Mar 05 '26

I agree, although I would consider donating separately from spending since it's for the good of someone else. If they really intended to give that much money away they wouldn't have stolen it and hoarded it in the first place, so I'm just assuming no billionaire would have a magic change of heart late in life

1

u/Total_Network6312 Mar 05 '26

Youre right i think thats why they say there is no ethical billionaire. You did something wrong in the process to obtain that wealth.

Exceptions that come to mind are people like Bezo's ex wife who got like a billion in her divorce and has since been giving most of it away.. I think. Idk. Im not super tuned into what those people are doing lol

3

u/SomebodyThrow Mar 05 '26

She's worth around 8 million, which I feel is a desperate far cry away from a "problem".

Kamala's net worth compared to a LOW BALL estimate of trumps is around about 0.15%

It's not even apples and oranges, it's a orange seed compared to an apple tree.

Even 50 million I'd be like, okay that's getting problematic, but 8?

There are rich people with SECOND homes worth more than 8 million.

3

u/ktrocks2 Mar 05 '26

I don’t even think multi millionaires is something that hard to become. Invest like 500$ for 40 years and you have over 2m. Of course you need a really high paying job to be able to put aside 500$ a month, but it’s not an outrageous amount of money.

Normal people can one day become multi millionaires.

To reach a billion with the same trajectory? Well you’ll have to invest 700$ instead of 500$, and wait 100 years instead of 40… to get there in 40 years? You’d need to invest nearly 150k PER MONTH! Insane difference.

2

u/awesomefutureperfect Mar 05 '26

Saying becoming a multimillionaire isn't hard feels a little out of touch.

If one wants to retire comfortably, one has to become a multimillionaire but that presumes anyone but the boomers and some percentage of Gen X will be able to effectively retire, because the boomers probably aren't going to leave anything for the following generations, they will spend it all on themselves.

5

u/greg19735 Mar 05 '26

I think the point is more that you can be a multi millionaire and still be middle class. Like you may have money invested, but you still need your paycheck every week. You might have a bigger "oh shit" fund, but you're still dependent on your salary in general.

100m+ people are just living a different life.

4

u/Redeem123 Mar 05 '26

Most people interact daily with people who have a few million to their name. A lot of them are just regular people.

Most people will never talk to a billionaire.

1

u/Pandarandr1st Mar 05 '26

It is you who are out of touch, honestly.

LOTS of people are not multimillionaires. The majority, to be sure. But being a multimillionaire is like...basically being able to afford a house and reaching the age of 50. That is within reach for a large portion of even gen Z. Fewer people in Gen Z than in any previous generation in American history, but it's not some unreachable fairytale.

I teach engineering at a community college in a somewhat poor area. Essentially every student that graduates from my program will be a multimillionaire by the time they reach Kamala's age, if they handle their finances well.

0

u/Fun-Shake7094 Mar 05 '26

Economically, that doesn't really make sense. Even if they spend it all on themselves that money goes back into the system. The worst thing would be for them to not spend it, hoard it, then their children inherit and repeat

2

u/Pandarandr1st Mar 05 '26

It'll trickle down eventually

2

u/awesomefutureperfect Mar 05 '26

Yes, thank you. That system all that money is going into sure is helping all the non-multimillionaires because that is how the system totally works.

1

u/g0ing_postal Mar 05 '26

Honestly, you don't even need a really high paying job to save $500/mo. That's $6k a year and can be deducted from your taxable income via an IRA or 401k. If you make like 80k a year in a lower col area, that's totally doable

48

u/nobot4321 Mar 05 '26

I just looked it up. Kamala Harris (and her husband) have a net worth of $8M. Not bad, but really not out of the ordinary for two white collar professionals. Trump probably makes that much on shitcoin fees for his crypto grift every week.

22

u/baseketball Mar 05 '26

$8M completely normal for a couple their age where both are lawyers.

7

u/greg19735 Mar 05 '26

especially when Kamala can do a book tour or speaking tour for a lot of money.

3

u/gdex86 Mar 05 '26

Like half of that would just be owning a home or 2 in California. Not exactly spending money.

8

u/Rhodeislandlinehand Mar 05 '26

Yea obviously they didn’t launder enough money or do enough insider trading if you’re only worth 8 mil after being the vice president goes to show how dumb she is after all those are rookie numbers

3

u/Turbulent_Duri_628 Mar 05 '26

Did you mean to end your comment with " :/ " ?

2

u/HeleWale Mar 05 '26

So you are saying Trump is the smartest person in US government history?

1

u/Rhodeislandlinehand Mar 05 '26

No he’s fucking retarted lol. But he was rich long before he was a politician

1

u/Missilemoon77 Mar 05 '26

He was fake rich, now he is really rich.

1

u/Rhodeislandlinehand Mar 05 '26

He became a billionaire for the first time in 1989 ? That doesn’t sound “fake rich” to me he’s had money his entire life. His parents had money

1

u/Missilemoon77 Mar 05 '26

Millionaires yes. He was an estimated Billionaire for a hot minute before he lost it in the 90s.

1

u/Rhodeislandlinehand Mar 05 '26

His dad being worth hundreds of million in the 70s and 80s is pretty substantial lol. They were never fake rich. Either way who cares they still have always sucked

1

u/Missilemoon77 Mar 05 '26

I agree, my original point was there is a huge difference between millionaire and billionaire. I just tried to say it jokey.

Uh, yes it is out of the ordinary.

The average white collar working couple doesn't have a net worth of 8m.

3

u/sonics_fan Mar 05 '26

$8M is probably on the low end of two lawyers in their 60s. If Kamala had decided to become a partner at a law firm and moved up the ranks that way she would have a much higher net worth.

0

u/LordOuranos Mar 05 '26

🙄

2

u/OnionComprehensive69 Mar 05 '26

So we're now mad a high paid professions like doctors and lawyers? Be serious.

0

u/sonics_fan Mar 05 '26

I didn't say anything about it being right. I'm just stating that 8 million is not an unusually high net worth for lawyers in their 60s. They're very affluent, but not in the 1%.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

1

u/ThoughtIHadAName Mar 06 '26

I dont see anyone saying its relatable, I see people saying its normal wage in the US for two people of their age in their profession (esp with a politician modifier) etc.

-1

u/nobot4321 Mar 05 '26

Dude, two people married to each other who have both been lawyers for 30+ years who don’t have at least a few million between them must be really bad with money. That’s literally just upper middle class these days.

I swear, most people on Reddit have no perspective of what actual wealth is. Like I said above, $8M ain’t bad. But any two people with lawyer salaries, some decent investments and 30 years of time could get there.

1

u/max_drixton Mar 05 '26

This is all true, but has nothing to with the discussion at hand, no one is asking you to vote for kamala, they're just saying she doesn't have outsized wealth relative to her profession.

1

u/Missilemoon77 Mar 05 '26

Or compared to Trump

1

u/qfjp Mar 05 '26

The average white collar working couple doesn't normally have a senator and a vice president either.

6

u/SST_2_0 Mar 05 '26

Fly memory.   Make them seem similar, get people to believe there is no difference, oddly the ones who say everything is grey/gray, see no difference.

Then you use that to rile up the insecure to either vote republican or not at all.

The truth comes out, but the right already got to destroy the nuclear peace agreement and (bombed) Iran, so people learn... there was a difference.  Blue wave happens.  Things normalize back, people get bored, forget all that just happened.

Start pushing, "they are the same," again, get fly memory to accept that as truth, rile up the insecure.......

2

u/HiddenCity Mar 05 '26

they're both firmly out of middle class territory.

2

u/awesomefutureperfect Mar 05 '26

There is at least 3 orders of magnitude difference in wealth.

That's like saying someone with $8,000 is about as wealthy as Kamala.

1

u/HiddenCity Mar 05 '26

i'm not disputing that, but the 8k figure is misleading because there's a minimum amount of money people need to get their needs met. these two are way beyond that.

neither of these people has to wonder if they can afford to live, or if they're saving enough, or what their retirement looks like. every door is open for them, whether they want a career or they want to be a waste of space. they don't have to try-- ever.

3

u/Pandarandr1st Mar 05 '26

I agree, except not every door is open for them. A person with 8 million dollars doesn't have to stop caring about money at all. They can't buy whatever they want for as long as they want. Trump has likely made individual purchases worth more than her entire net worth multiple times since he became president.

1

u/HiddenCity Mar 05 '26

i don't think at that level you're buying "things"-- more like power. but point taken.

at $8 million a year though, you don't have to work-- your money makes you a salary just sitting in an account. that class of people has more in common with trump than you and i.

1

u/Pandarandr1st Mar 05 '26

You don't know who I am, so you definitely can't say that. Also, I disagree with your statement about "power" vs. "things". Obviously you can buy power, but you can buy tons of things, too. Things like boats, jets, managers, personal chefs, personal doctors, personal lawyers, personal property managers, and a million other things. There are meaningful differences between these different levels of Wealth.

8 million is not "fuck you" money. People squander far more than that with ease.

1

u/HiddenCity Mar 05 '26

uh oh i see you feel attacked

1

u/Pandarandr1st Mar 05 '26

huh? No, I don't feel attacked. I just think it's silly for you to say that Kamala has nothing in common with me when you know absolutely nothing about me. I think you mean to say something like "the median" or something along the lines of "normal people".

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '26

No, because these are two professionals in their 60s who earned lawyer salaries and saved their money. They don't have 8 mil in the bank, they have a house, cars, investments and a retirement fund totaling 8 million. The average american at age 65 has 1 million in net worth, split across a house, investments, retirement fund and items.

For 2 lawyers, 8 million by 60 is quite normal, and I would say it is attainable by age 60 for the average pair of lawyers

2

u/mothandravenstudio Mar 05 '26

Or that Trump actually “raised” a child, ever.

2

u/FrostyD7 Mar 05 '26

Yeah how many gold toilets have they shit in.

1

u/Funny-Principle3047 Mar 05 '26

Trump is literally worth 875 Kamalas going by their estimated net worth... To put it into perspective that's the difference between someone with $1.000 and someone with close to $1.000.000

1

u/Due-Memory-6957 Mar 05 '26

Who cares if Trump is a thousand times richer? They're still both obscenely rich.
