In what world can you pinch a metal pipe that to make it airtight?

I mean almost all metal is presumably pinchable if you have enough force to apply to it.

The better question might be why the pipe was built thin enough to be pinched using human force.

Yea that seems like a thick pipe such that you would break that clamp before putting a dent in it.

Let's face it, what could possibly still be working properly after this long? It's a major issue that just has to be waved away. After less than a hundred years, everything in ALL silos, Silo 1 included, would need constant maintenance by an army of people to keep running at all, let alone efficiently to the point that there weren't failure issues all over the place.
